Abstract

The study to observe the species composition and abundance on mudskipper fish was conducted in July 2013 in Dumai coastal waters of Riau Province, Indonesia. They study was carried out in providing the lack information on the biological aspects of the mudskipper from Indonesian seas in general, and of the riau’s coasts in particular. They study used a survey method by selecting 3 different stations as the sampling sites. Fish sampels were collected during the low tide. The quadrant were used in the field in facilitating the survey in fish abudance, whilst the identification was commenced in the Laboratory of Marine Biology of University of Riau. The resuld showed that a number of three species of the mudskipper were sucessfully recorded, i.e. Periopthalmodon schlosseri, Periopthalmus variabilis (Eggert) and Baleopthalmus boddarti (Pall). In terms of abudance, the highest, 0,1733 individuals/m2 was recorded in station I and the lowest 0,0867 individuals/m2, was found in stations III. Based on the diversity index (H’), it was reported that the Dumai coast had moderate diversity of the mudskipper. None of the fish was dominating the population since the dominance index (C) was very close to null from each station. It can be concluded that the habitats of mudskipper in Dumai coasts were in the state of unstable due to its E value in which also close to one.   Keywords : Mudskipper, species composition, abudance, Riau.

Abstract

The research was conducted from December 2014 to February 2015, in the coastal waters of Dumai, Riau Province. The research aimed to determine the tidal dynamics in relation to climate change. The research used survey method by performing 4 times periodically sampling. The result of measurement was then compared to Hydro-oceanographic Service Data. The results showed that tidal pattern in coastal waters of Dumai during a period of 3 months was classified into Mixed Semi-Diurnal Tides which occured 2 low tides and 2 high tides for 24 hours. Observations I-IV showed the tidal patterns were different because of different patterns of surface currents. Data of tidal pattern were compared to data obtained from Hydro-oceanographic data 3 years earlier showed a difference. Judging from the results of research that has been made known that there has been a rise in sea level if compared to data obtained from Hydro-oceanographic data 3 and 1 year before, namely an increase ranging between 19.5 to 22 cm. While the comparison of the data with the previous 2 years decreased, with a value of 45.5 cm. This means sea level in the study area has increased for 3 and 1 year. It was predicted that the existence of climate change has the effect of tidal conditions in these waters.Keyword : tidal pattern, climate change, Pangkalan Sesai, Dumai

Abstract

ABSTRACT Epi-macrozoobentos are animals that live on the surface of a water base substrate and are larger than 1 mm in size. This study aims to determine the structure of epi-macrozoobenthic community which includes: species composition, abundance, diversity, uniformity, dominance and the relationship between the total organic content of sediment to epi-macrozoobenthic abundance. Environmental parameters measured include physics-chemical parameters of waters (temperature, velocity, salinity, pH and DO) as life-supporting factors of epi-macrozoobentos. The species of epi-macrozoobentos in the waters of Pandan Island were found to be 17 species from 14 families, 7 classes and 14 genera with species composition ie 74% Gastropoda class, Echinoidea 9.6%, Malacostraca 8.6%, Bivalva 3%, Asteroidea 2.6 % and Holothuridea 2.2%. Epi-macrozoobenthic abundance in Pandan Island waters ranged from 4.5 to 6.6 ind / m2 with an average of 5.3 ind / m2. The diversity index values ranged from 2.45 to 2.86, the dominance index ranged from 1.14 to 1.21 and the uniformity index ranged from 0.62 to 0.81. The total organic content of sediments ranged from 1.70 to 2.57%. Based on the diversity index (H ') of Pandan Island waters classified as moderate and medium diversity. In general, the state of the chemical physics of Pandan Island waters can still support the life of epi-macrozoobenthic organisms. Keywords: Community structure, epi-macrozoobentos, Organic matter, Pandan Island.
