Abstract

Microalgae is one type of raw material that has the potential to be used as bioethanol, because it has the ability to grow in a relatively short time, can be cultivated in a limited area, and several types of microalgae have a high carbohydrate content. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of variations in the concentration of H2SO4 on bioethanol produced. The substrate used in the fermentation process in this study was microalgae Chlorella sp. obtained from microalgae cultivation by fed-batch in oil palm liquid waste media. The preliminary stage carried out in this research is the preparation of the microalgae raw material Chlorella sp. to form a powder. Microalgae powder was used as a substrate and hydrolyzed with variations in the concentration of H2SO4 3%, 4%, and 5%. The hydrolysis solution was then fermented using Saccaromyces cerevisiae with a concentration of 10% Saccaromyces cerevisiae inoculum volume. The results showed that 4% (v/v) H2SO4 produced the highest glucose concentration, which was 37,87 mg/mL with the resulting bioethanol concentration of 15,78 mg/mL. Abstract

1-Hexene is a raw material in plastic production and classified as a linear alpha olefin compound. 1-Hexane is produced from the ethylene trimerization process. The use of 1hexene in the production of High-density polyethylene (HDPE) and linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) is one of the co-monomers. The use of 1-hexane in the manufacture of HDPE and LLDPE is about 2 - 4% and 8 - 10% of the co-monomer. HDPE and LLDPE are used as packaging for food and beverages. The need for 1-hexana in Indonesia is increasing over time, but in Indonesia there is no factory to produces 1-hexene. The increasing need for imports will reduce the source of foreign exchange for the country. So that the establishment of the 1-hexene plant can reduce the need for imports and can increase the country's foreign exchange. The main design is an o-xylene tower which functions to separate o-xylene from the mixture. The type of distillation column used is the tray column. The operating conditions at the distillation column are temperature of 204 °C  at the top stage and 270 ° C bars at the bottom stage  with  pressure at 4 bar respectively. Plant economic analysis is carried out to determine the feasibility of the factory to be built. Based on the results of the economic feasibility analysis of the factory, the 1-hexana plant is feasible to build with a PBB of 2 years, an IRR of 22.7433%, an ROI of 39.388%, and a BEP of 54%.  Keywords: 1-Hexene, co-monomer, o-xylene, distillation, economic analysis

Abstract

One type of hazardous industrial waste is phenol. The photocatalysis process has become the choice for the treatment of phenol waste. Titanium dioxide or titania (TiO2) is a photocatalyst material that is often used. Carbon nanotubes (CNT) are known to be used to improve the performance of TiO2 photocatalyst material. The CNT used was modified with CTAB (Cetyltrimethylammonium bromide) surfactant. The purpose of this research are to determine the effect of temperature degradation on the performance of the Titania-CNT (CTAB) composites in degrading phenols through the process of photocatalysis. The study began with surface modification of CNT using CTAB surfactant. Then the modified CNT was compiled with TiO2. Then Titania-CNT (CTAB) composite performance in degradating phenol was tested using a variation of the degradation temperature of 40oC and 50oC. The results of this research indicate that as the temperature increases, the phenol which can be degraded by the Titania-CNT (CTAB) composite is also increasing. The highest effectiveness of composite TitaniaCNT (CTAB) performance was obtained when the degradation temperature of 50oC was 99.54%. Keywords : phenol, photocatalysis, composites, TiO2, CNT, CTAB

Abstract

Mono-di-acylglycerol (MDG) is a material capable of joining two compounds with different polarities. MDG is a synthetic emulsifier that can be obtained from the esterification reaction of fatty acids with glycerol using organic catalysts, enzyme catalysts, and heterogeneous catalysts. The esterification reaction is a reaction between carboxylic acids and alcohols to produce esters. Esterification reactions generally use inorganic acids such as H2SO4, esterification reactions generally cause corrosion, to inhibit zeolitic catalysts are used. In this journal, heterogeneous catalysts are used, where heterogeneous catalysts occur in more than one phase, the catalyst can be solid in a liquid or a solid in a gas. Catalysts can speed up chemical reactions without changing at the end of the reaction. In general, heterogeneous catalysts are made from transition metal elements because they have good gas-absorbing properties. Keywords: esterification, heterogeneous catalysts, mono-di-asilglyserol.

Abstract

Business card is a card that can deliver some informations related to company or even professionals, but some people in business such as professionals and companies doesn’t have business card or only some of them have business cards for reasons such as the funds spent on making business cards for many employees are too large for the scale of a business as big as a company, and feel that business cards are not very important for professionals. With Augmented Reality Technology, business cards can be converted into digital form so it can be easily accessed by many people and certain people, and relatively low production costs than conventional business cards. The use of Augmented Reality technology by scanning digital business cards as markers in the form of texts and images, and displays an object on a marker. Digital business cards are divided into two types, namely business cards for public use and business cards for use in business which will appear if successfully scanned using a marker. Create and process digital business cards, design and upload markers, design application interfaces, and design Augmented Reality technology in the form of Android Package Kit (APK). Development of this application requires several tools, such Unity 3D, Vuforia SDK, Android SDK, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe Premier. This study resulted an Android-based application with Augmented Reality Technology as a medium for displaying digital business cards by scanning markers using a smartphone, so users can see digital business cards have better informations.Keywords: Augmented Reality, Marker, business cards, kartu nama digital.

Abstract

Youth is the time of life when someone considered young and the transition from childhood into maturity, youth experience various changes in both physical and psychic terms. Such changes can be either good or otherwise determined by many factors within themselves and their environment. Their activities and tendencies also affect as part of their changes, such as through doing their hobbies and interests could establish their personality and character in a more positive direction in the future. Bagansiapiapi, which is the capital of the district Rokan Hilir, Riau Province has a population with a large range of teenager age. There are so many youth positive activity, but there are still many of them that have not been facilitated and they finally look for other alternative places or do other activities that maybe unsettling and could harm themselves or others. Therefore, a facility is required intended for the youths to perform their positive activities such as the Youth Center. Youth Center has facilities that can accommodate the youth activities such as sports, arts, education and meetings. As the center of youth activity, Bagansiapiapi Youth Center would implement the style of expressionist architecture. Expressionist architecture is used because one of the principles is to create freely and expression that matches the characteristics of a free and the rebel of youth. Abstract

Advancements in science and technology of civil engineering have led the development of modifications to the shape of pile foundation. Modification of the pile foundation by adding wings to the pile is one way to increase skin friction on soft soil, so that a greater bearing capacity is obtained. In this research, piles were modeled with variations of wing’s lengths of 0.50D, 0.75D, 1.00D, and 1.25D, the distance between wings also varies from 3D, 6D, and 9D. Constant Rate of Penetration (CRP Test) will be used as a method for loading test. The bearing capacity based on loading test data will be analyzed using Terzaghi and Peck method Analysis results showed that winged foundations were able to bearing greater loads than normal piles. The largest pile bearing capacity occurs in pile models with wing lengths of 1.25D and distance of 3D (TS2-1.25D-3D). Addition of wing length until 1.25D will always improve the piles bearing capacity. Unlike wing’s length, addition of the distance between the wings until 9D not always improve the piles bearing capacity. Abstract

Along with the development of the era, the need for fuel oil is increasing. The development of research and the use of diesel motors in industry will not stop just because of the depletion of fossil fuels. The search for alternative fuels as a substitute for diesel continues to be carried out in addition to dealing with the problems of the global energy and environmental crisis as well as helping to develop automotive technology as a work of human culture. Methyl ester is a biofuel that can be used to power diesel engines. The availability of fuel oil derived from petroleum is running low and the price is increasing so that alternative fuel sources are needed. One of the substitutes for conventional fuels from petroleum is vegetable oil. Methyl ester is produced using a transesterification reaction by changing the triglycerides which are reacted with one of the alcohol compounds, namely methanol to become methyl ester, and a production capacity of 250,000 tons / year is obtained. The main design tool is the CSTR (Continuous Flow Stirred-Tank Reactor) reactor which is used as a place for the transesterification reaction between triglycerides and methanol to produce methyl ester (main product) and glycerol (by-product). The operating temperature used is 333.15K. Based on the calculation results, the reactor volume is 57.28 m3, the reactor diameter (OD) is 168 in m with torispherical flanged and dished head and skirt support. Abstract

Renewable energy is the solution of electricity generation to replace conventional electricity generation that used to use fossil fuels which will eventually run out. Solar energy or solar energy can be used to generate electricity through solar panel media, but the energy that is converted to produce electricity is energy from solar light instead of heat energy produced by the sun. Thermal energy from the sun is a problem for solar panels because it can reduce the efficient power produced by solar panels. Then the solution to overcome that is designed for watering the surface of the solar panel to increase the effectiveness of the power generated by controlling the panel using Arduino with LM35 sensors mounted on five points of the solar panel. With the results found the average increase in power on December 24 by 20% if the panel is given an automatic cooling system. Key word: Solar panels, panel cooling systems, Arduino.

Abstract

HR. Soebrantas street is classified as a secondary arterial road that used to accommodate high traffic capacity. Traffic activity at this street will affect the amount of CO emissions generated from the vehicles. The purpose of this study is to comparing the estimate data the distribution of carbon monoxide (CO) emissions emitted from vehicles crossing HR. Soebrantas with ambient air quality standard based on Government Rule No. 41/1999. The method used is measuring the wind speed, exhaust height, traffic counting the vehicles and estimated by Gaussian Line Source. The results of this study show that the CO concentrations from the Gaussian model on Wednesday has exceeded the quality standard. Keywords : Carbon Monoxide, Gaussian Line Source, HR.
