Abstract

This study conducted an analysis of satellite rainfall data utilization as an alternative for hydrological modeling. Reliability of satellite rainfall data for hydrological modeling iscompared to the use of ground rainfall data. Rainfall-runoff modeling in this research is used IHACRES program by taking a case study in the Rokan watershed, Riau Province. IHACRESmodel output was compared and analyzed with the output of IFAS simulation. The length of the data used was four years (2003 - 2006) with the variation in the length of data scheme 1(three year calibration), Scheme 2 (two years calibration) and scheme 3 (one year calibration). The results showed that the use of satellite rainfall data for rainfall-runoff modeling IHACRES is better than using ground rainfall data based on the evaluation of the model accuracy coefficient of efficiency (CE). Such thing was reviewed by assessing the CE parameters that have better value, while the parameters R and VE have relatively similar results. CE value of ground rainfall data scheme 1, Scheme 2 and scheme 3 is 0,659; 0,715 and 1,003. CE value of satellite rainfall data 0,924 and 0,875. In general, based on the CE value of the parameter evaluation accuracy simulation step, the rainfall-runoff modeling IFAS using satellite rainfall data are more reliably than the rainfall-runoff modelingIHACRES that uses ground rainfall data and satellite, the value of CE rainfall-runoff modeling IFAS is 1,652.Keywords: ground rainfall data, IFAS, IHACRES, rainfall-runoff modeling, satellite rainfall data

Abstract

Sumatera Island is one of the most active seismic area in Indonesia. The high seismic acvitity combined with mostly soft soil condition turn some location in this island into a devastating shaking area especially for highrise building. If not well designed, highrise reinforced concrete (RC) building may experience excessive deformation and endanger its occupants.Due to these facts, this study aims to predict deformation characteristics of highrise RC building under earthquake loading using artificial neural network (ANN). Prior to ANNanalysis, modal response spectrum analysis is conducted to produce building response data sets. By selecting 8 capital cities and 3 other cities in Sumatera Island as seismic location,1080 data sets are generated for ANN training and 405 data sets for testing. The ANN analysis uses 3 layers: input layer, hidden layer, and output layer. Building geometry, soilcondition, and seismic load are selected as input parameters, while story-drift, velocity, and acceleration are selected as output parameters. After 6000 iterations at training process, average mean-squared errors (MSE) of 3x10-4 and 4x10-4 are achieved for training and testing process, respectively. The calculated R2 is ranging from 83% to 95% which isadequately high for prediction rate. This shows that ANN is a very promising tool to predict story-drift, velocity, and acceleration of highrise RC building under earthquake loading. Keywords: artificial neural network (ANN), Sumatera Island, modal response spectrum analysis, structural response

Abstract

Significant shift in the land use within Siak watershed (DAS Siak) affects to groundwater reserves. This also affected to fluctuation of the river flows. Therefore to develop a comprehensive watershed management strategies, it is required a hydrological model which is in capable to represent the hydrological cycle of the watershed. Hydrological model may use SWAT application software package. The SWAT simulations performed various scenarios for land use changes in the period of 2002, 2007, and 2012. Based on this research study, the optimal determination coefficient (R2) of SWAT output models were = 0.59, with Nash Suflicfe Efficiency (NSE) was 0.58. The determination coefficient for validation models was 0.55 and NSE was 0.48. These results have satisfied the reserach objectives as the findings coefficient were > R2 min 0.4, and >NSE 0.35. The level of ground water reserves was calculated by comparing the ratio of Qmaximum and Qminimum during the period of 2002 to 2012. It was revealed that the ratio of ground water reserves were as the following order 10,725 (2002), 6,834 (2007) and 12,951 (2012) respectively. Should the ratio value Qmaxsimum / Qminimum was bigger, the more critical ground water reserved will be. Hence, the fundamental changes in land use is Siak watershed affected to suppress the ground wateer reserve to the critical level. Keywords: Land use change, SWAT model, ground water reserve.

Abstract

Soil is a material that serves as an support for the basis of a constuction, be it construction of buildings, bridges and roads. Each region has different soil characteristics in other regions, there have bearing capacity is good and some are bad. To overcome this, it is necessary to repair soil with stabilization method. One way of soil stabilization is with cement. In this study, the cement used are OPC cement and PCC cement. This study focuses on the effect of OPC cement content and PCC against the value of CBR and free compressive strength (UCS) of land. Soil samples tested in this study is the low plasticity clay derived from the intersection Inpress km.11 Perawang, Siak. Content variation mixture used is 5%, 10%, 15%, 20% on each of the OPC cement and PCC to do the same curing time for 14 days. The results showed that the increasing levels of mixed cement both OPC cement and cement PCC, then the value of CBR and UCS will be even greater. The maximum increase of UCS value in the soil mix with 20% OPC and 20% PCC, where the value of each are 6.2 MPa and 2.6 MPa. At levels of 10% OPC and 10% PCC, CBR value of each is 369.6% and 189.8%. This indicates that the OPC cement and PCC cement can improve the physical and mechanical properties of clay low plasticity. Keywords: Low plasticity clay, CBR, UCS, OPC, PCC
