Abstract

The Rungkut library is one of two Public Libraries available in Surabaya City. This building is supposed to be the main building of the Surabaya City Public Library, however, plenty of design, aesthetics, and facility problems instantly ruins that image. This needs to be fixed with a thorough redesign process.The library is redesigned through an analysis process, experimentation towards design schematics, and application of a new concept called “The Common Learner.” This new concept focuses itself on three different things that are currently the main value of modern libraries, which is keeping productivity afloat, making people more enthusiastic inside the library, and adding comfort value for all visitors. This concept is used in the new design, and also adding new facilities the library needs, such as a computer area, self-service circulation machine, and multimedia collection with e-books.Through the redesign results, there are hopes that the citizen of Surabaya City can go back to visiting the Surabaya City Public Library building, and in turn, the library could fulfill the citizens’ needs while also making the citizens develop reading habits.

Abstract

School is a place where kids can get an education. Generally kids spends 12 hours of their day in school and that can make them feel tired and bored. Interior planning for Belle Ballet School can help kids to develop their talent in ballet, so they can distribute their boredom during long hours in their school. Belle Ballet School will be redesigned byproviding more facilities, more interesting and fun ambience that can make people feel cozy inside it.Belle Ballet School is designed for kids to develop their ballet with a concept of playing while learning, so that the school ambience will be cheerful. The design concept for this school is “Sparkling Spring” that can give a cheerful ambience in school interior and can pop out children’s passion in ballet and the school itself (Belle Ballet School).

Abstract

Residential houses are the first place and facilities where children try to learn about new things. The necessity of learning, relaxing, and keeping facilities becomes one of the necessities of furniture that must be facilitated for children with the age range of 3-5 years (golden age). The role and function of the furniture became easier to understand which is used in residential houses. Combining kid’s activities into 3 different types of furniture, geometric shapes, primer colors, and constructions chosen for the steps of the furniture. Kiddos itself being chosen as the theme which means furniture that kids like de most, everything about kids combined to make the suitable and right furniture. This design is expected to necessity the needs of children's activities in space and the resulting design can support the creative process and development of children.

Abstract

Bali provides many places called the "Wedding Chapel" with different concept in each of its wedding chapel, there are two chapels which have interesting shape and concepts those are The Diamond Chapel dan the Chapel Rituals. They are the objects of the research. The research aims to discover the embodiment of the interior design and the idea of The Diamond Chapel and The Ritual Chapel. This research is qualitative. Data obtained through field observation study, interviews, literature study, as well as documentation is directly analyzed descriptively. The subject matter of the research is focuses on building chapel, chapel architecture, including building facades such as front, side, and rear facade; main entrance, layout, space organization and circulation. Chapel’s interior consists of room-forming elements such as floor, walls, and ceilings; transitional element such as door; space-filling elements such as tables and chairs; utility systems are lighting and HVAC systems; and decorative elements as various accessories. The results showed that the design concept of The Diamond Chapel is identic with shiny and valuable items, the implementation of diamond. The design concept of Ritual Chapel indicates that the building is identical to the Padang house roof. These two buildings are monumental and becoming icon to the surrounding environment.

Abstract

Blind get the opportunity to be guided and get a chance to get education to grow optimally. Blind people are individuals who have visual inhibitions. Limitations impede blind children in various activities in fulfilling their needs, so in addition to requiring public education services as well as a child, the blind child needs special services to rehabilitate the disorder, it is obligatory for a blind child to receive special attention. Related to that, it takes an interior element that can be used to facilitate blind children in doing activities, especially in learning activities. The purpose of this study is to describe the proposals, solutions and roles of the creation of furniture design for blind children at the Blind Children's Education Foundation Surabaya. Target of research that resulted, among others, in the form of data that has been tested about the design of furniture for children with special needs, especially blind children in the Foundation for Children's Education Buta Surabaya.

Abstract

Design is inspired from Joshua Alim Santoso's final project which raised waiting activity phenomenon performed by shopping center visitors. Waiting is an activity which can reduce commercial transaction. Therefore waiting and advertising facility which can accommodate visitor’s and tenant’s needs is needed. Shopping center has a different area. Configuration flexibility is needed so that the product can be placed in several types of shopping center’s area. In this design, Ciputra World Mall, Pakuwon Mall, and Grand City Mall and Convex are chosen as study cases. The used design thinking process is design thinking by Tim Brown, CEO of IDEO with 9 stages. The stages are understand, observe, POV, ideate, prototype, test, story telling, pilot, and BMC. Concept design is oriented to meet the needs of visitor and tenant which are contradictory. The result is waiting and advertising facility consist of 3 module with each function. This module can be configured into linear, and centered to be placed in different area. Moreover, the modules are designed in such way to possible adding decoration elements based on each shopping center’s style. Next, the product can be expanded for commercial orientation for other shopping mall.

Abstract

Indonesia is one of the countries where the Lego sales its products. It starts to develop in recent years and make the children like it. Lego enthusiasts in Indonesia come from not just the children but also the adults. The Lego lovers need a facility that let them explore creativity and learn more through Lego. This need backgrounds the design of House of Lego in Surabaya. The atmosphere created by this design is based on the Playhouse of Creativity concept which is comfortable, relaxing, and fun. This design can also sharp the children and adults creativity.

Abstract

The Interior Design of School and Special Children Autism Therapy in Surabaya is designed due to the increasing number of children who suffer from autism in Indonesia especially Surabaya. However, these kind of facilities are still inadequate in Surabaya, which makes many children with autism didn’t receive any early treatment. The existence of this design is expected to embody and provide an adequate facilities for treatment and education activities. In addition, this facility is also made for parents whose children suffered from autism and public to get the correct information about how to handle children with autism. As an appreciation for the students, this facility also provides a place to appreciate the work of their students. According to Bryan Lawson there are four stages of the design’s method, which are assimilation, general study, development, and communication. The concept of growing garden has chosen because it has the meaning of growing, which the growth that the writer expected is the growth to be better. The Growth which has chosenconsists three areas of education i.e. intelligence, creativity, and life skill.Garden has chosen as the theme of design because meaning that this facility can accommodate all activities both learning and therapy. Besides, therapy facilities is suggested to use the natural approach so that the process of restoring will be fasten. The implementation of the concept of generated through the management of the zoning and circulation, form, color and also the management of furniture. So, this design can provide comprehensive facilities namely providing school facilities covering pre-school and primary schools, therapy facilities covering sensory integration therapy space, soft-play, occupation, speaking, technique, hygiene and toilet, health care, and self-development. As a place to give information for parents and public, this facility provides a meeting room and a hall facility to hold seminar. Hall also can be used for students to hold a festival, and there is mini gallery that is used to exhibit student’s works to people who come to this facility as a form of appreciation for the students’s works.

Abstract

In the city of Surabaya there are still many people who do not care about the abandoned dogs, one of the reasons for not helping abandoned dogs is the absence of space at home to provide temporary shelter. In the other hand, some people also use religious beliefs as an excuse. Based on those phenomenon,the author  then  designed a shelter and café where not only to accommodate abandoned animals but also find the owner for the dog. So the café is designed to be useful as a gathering place for animal lovers and provide campaigns to adopt dogs. In this design there are also supporting facilities such as clinic, nursery, playgrounds and office to organize dog adoption procedures. To create the design of the shelter and cafe, the author uses the method of design thinking.

Abstract

There are many sports venues for public (unisex) for public in Surbaya. Most women feel do not feel comfortable and free when they are doing exercise with the opposite sex. Besides, women have different sports necessity from men such as the need of lighter load and the preference to exercise in groups. To create a fitness center that can fulfill the sports needs of women whose primary goal is for body performance not for achievement, the sports facilities design are based on the literature and the experts. In addition, designer also do brainstorming to produce a representative fitness center design that focused for women.This women's fitness center becomes a special sports venue because it can fulfill the needs of women's sport optimally and adjust the characteristics of women that can attract women to exercise.With this design, women in Surabaya can exercise comfortably and freely because it is not unisex place so that women can become more healthy, fit and have ideal body.
