Abstract

The current four-wheeled Mitsubishi vehicles from japan are less know by the citizens in Surabaya. One of the reasons is the existence of many other car brands that are more popular and the monotonous design of the interior showroom.The influence also led to a decrease in sales of Mitsubishi showroom. To resolve this problem required a design that is different from the other four-wheeled vehicle brands is required. Interior design showroom Mitshubishi in Surabaya presents futuristic design style that is combined with GEO OPENERS concept that will make a difference and is unique in Surabaya.Transparent material is mostly used in public areas for visitors to make it look more open spaced, and comfortable for visitors and staffs. Mitsubishi showroom design begins with the creation of Programming obtained from survey results and interviews directly to the owner of the branch manager of the showroom, then continued with the creation of schematic and final design, followed by the creation of schematic design, and later continued with the creation of the final design.

Abstract

Interior planning of Library Café in Surabaya is a library facilitated with a café that provides information and learning facilities for young people. The purpose is to improve the culture of reading and to promote young people’s point of view about library as an open and comfortable learning facility. The facilities in library café, includes reading area, counter area, multipurpose room, staff and locker room, small groups and study space area, computer area, information and service area.The design concept theme is “Catchy and Homey”, where Catchy describes the characteristic of youth which are energetic, bold, cheerful, and fresh which is applied through pop arts style. Homey describes the comfortable feeling in space which is applied through modern contemporary style with simple design, the use of natural light, neutral color, and combination of modern and natural material based on function aspect.The design method used is “design thinking” method, consisting of 5 process, such as discovery (collecting data), interpretation (problem solving analysis), ideation (brainstorming), experimentation (design development), and evolution (final evaluation), whereas the result is manifested in presentation drawings and a 1:50 scaled miniature.

Abstract

The sense of vision commonly plays the most dominant role in interior, such as color, material, shape, lighting, and others. However other senses such as smell, auditory, haptic are typically less considered. Without the design of non-visual sensory, customers’ could not feel maximum experience. This is due to non-visual sensory sensation that enhances visual perception of customers. The aim of this study is to understand the importance of the role of the senses as one of the instruments to experience space. The method used is the qualitative descriptive method based on the theory of Joy Monice Malnar and adopts the case study of Bentoya restaurants that are located in 5 malls throughout Surabaya. According to the analysis, it can be concluded that the experience of senses plays a prominent role for humans to experience space. Overall, there are various experiences that involve many of the senses in the interior of Bentoya restaurant. Customers go through various experiences through the implementation of distinctive Japanese elements in every Bentoya restaurant, starting from the floors, walls, ceiling, until the decorative elements. Haptic in theory is referred as the most influential sense in experiencing space, which is evident in the case study with various experience that could be felt by the body, be it directly or beginning with the other senses first. For example, the elements of wood and bamboo can be experienced through visual, auditory and haptic senses.

Abstract

In this era of globalization, people of Surabaya tend to frequently visit cafés, especially because there are lots of cafes in Surabaya with various design concepts. People will choose café that is comfortable and has great atmosphere. Based on those comfort places, some of their furnitures, especially sofas, may neither be comfortable nor ergonomic. Sometimes the sofa’s fabric and leather  materials are not comfortable enough, have broken sponges, and damaged construction.The suitable method for the design of this sofa based on the problems is conducted with the questionnaire data about the comfortability of the sofa for visitors - café visitors and data collection - the data includes sofas in some cafes around Surabaya. By knowing the problems and data, designer will be  able to know which are the best materials for the construction, and most comfortable for users.The concept used for this sofa design is universal concept, which is comfortable and ergonomic in terms of size, material, and comfort aspect. The modular design of the sofa equipped with charging facility to accommodate users’ needs, the needs of interior elements and space for ads, designed in a unique form using hollow iron material so this sofa can be used for a long-time period, and the design will be everlasting.

Abstract

Limited land space in the urban areas drives citizens shifting into vertical housing solution, especially SOHO apartments. Advance technology development supports this new lifestyle trend by enables people work wherever and whenever desire without physical presents in the office. With this kind of lifestyle and way of working, the need of technology-based furniture is highly increasing or also called innovative furniture. The design of the furniture will be aimed for the American who are in the Gen Y generation group. Hence, the design would use rattan as the material, considering its environmentally friendly feature that is major influence on the target market’s decision on buying furniture. In the designing phase, the theories and literature are also reviewed, as well as experts, i.e. furniture business owners, are interviewed to get the design that answers the existing problems and the market needs.

Abstract

In this busy world, entertainment can’t be separated from our lifestyle. Right now there are many kinds of entertainment facilities. One of these entertainment is go karting. It is a mini version of a car which has a simple design and usually used for racing sports. Go karts race on a small scale of circuit track. Go karts usually used for training purpose before they go into bigger machine. Go karts are usually popular among the youngsters, but there are a lot of adults who’s into karting as well. In this modern era, besides restaurant and fast food, one of the most growing food commercial is café. Café usually focused on the interior design and sells food from snack to heavy meals as well. One of the main purpose of café is to make their customers feels comfort while enjoying their meal. Café nowadays is not only used as a place to eat, but as a place to meet with other people, a place to work their assignment, etc.

Abstract

This church is a unique church and one of the cultural heritages in Probolinggo because the whole building is red and built using a knockdown system. The construction of this church was carried out in 1862, where neogotics were developing and the industrial revolution took place, so it was likely that the church was affected by the neogotic and industrial revolutionary styles. This study aims to prove the style affecting the Protestant Church of West Indonesia Immanuel Probolinggo. The method used is descriptive-qualitative, with case study approach. It started with data collection which was done by literature study, observation, and interview. Then, the data have been obtained in comparison with the literature using a comparison table.The results show that GPIB Immanuel was affected with Neogothic Style and Industrial Revolution which developed in that era.

Abstract

Indonesia was a country where producing various honey , it was because Indonesia is a tropical countries where growing various flowers that is a source of food of the honeybee. Actually Indonesian’s honey have a very good potential, Indonesia have many species of bee and kinds of flowers that will to affect the color and the sense of honey. But most honey that marketed in Indonesia is a honey of cattle bee that the food has been provided beforehand so that reduced the quality of honey is. Honey with the best quality only can be enjoyed by a narrow segment of society that really understand honey .Therefore , one way introduce honey to Indonesian people is to design a honey house. Honey house is a public facilities that can became a learning tools , knowledge , trading , recreation and a facility where people indonesia can know and study various types of honey and benefits of honey Indonesia. This honey house established with a view to introduce what and how the honey made .

Abstract

In performing both indoor and outdoor activities, elderly will experience distress due to the decreased physical condition. Therefore, they will need extra time and energy and tends to get tired and feel sore when doing various activities (such as sitting, walking, or standing for too long). The problems found were analyzed along with the theories that have been obtained, to create a product in order to help elderly to perform various activities. This product can help and make elderly feel more comfortable in doing their activities.Design method used is the design thinking process from Interaction Design Foundation which consists of 3 stages: Inspiration (Understand, Observe), Ideation (Ideate, Prototype, Test), and Implementation (Story-telling, Business model).From the problems existed, the products were designed and produced in the form of a movable seating facility for elderly that is easy to move around and suitable for both outdoor and indoor. The design of this product is different with the other products because it is equipped with additional facilities such as storage / bag, walking stick that can be used as the grip of walker as well, and a sella stick or 4 leg stick. Moreover, this chair can also be folded and stored in a narrow place. This seating facility has an ergonomic aspect that has been adjusted to the ergonomics of elderly to make sure that they would feel comfortable.

Abstract

East and Central Java are provinces with vast region in Java Island and high population level, which allow the acculturation to develop, especially Colonial Building, as evidence of Dutch Colonial history relic. One of the famous design style at the moment was indische which is a mixture of Javanese and European culture. Finding similarities and differences that exist in today’s church with descriptive comparative method and the selection of buildings based on stratified sampling technique, samples are grouped by function of the building. Writer found that indische design style characteristics in colonial buildings, which is the church in East and Central Java is the plastered wall and white paint. The floor use terrazzo materials and granite with a geometric and tendrils pattern. The wall use thick bricks, painted in plain white. Using hanging accessory on the wall, alternating between windows and walls. It has high ceiling painted in plain white.
