Abstract

Education can be started from early age, and this early education shall be able to improve the quality of human resources which can be useful for the future. Kindergarten as the first formal education institute is an early education program where the children can learn as they play along. Kindergartens were designed to improve the intelectual, social, emotional, linguistic, and physical development. The main factor that matters the most in supporting the development of children in kindergartens are the teacher’s quality, learning activity programs, and physical environment. Physical environment refers to the children’s learning class along with its facility. A good learning class facility can be very important in order to support the learning proccess so it can run optimally. The goal of this research is to learn about the standard application of learning classes in Santa Clara Kindergarten Surabaya. The result achieved was that the Santa Clara Kindergarten Surabaya has already applied the standards on the classes, with the few exceptions like the student’s table dimension and the unapplied fire protection system. Santa Clara Kindergarten Surabaya applies the learning class facility standards based on the National Education Department’s directive and the added foundation curriculum into the interior aspects and the learning class facilities.

Abstract

Nowadays, studio type apartment become a choice of residence for people especially for the young who start the career. It was choosen because of the practical and the space of the room that make easier for user to keep it clean. Walk-In Cloest is important things to have to fulfill her needs of dressing especially for woman. The limitation of space and a lot of dressing needs, compact furniture is needed.. Based of analysis, compact furniture can support the other activities and save space. Walk-In closet that use a playwood, things that needs to be concern are to maximize the utilization of space.

Abstract

This interior furniture design based on ceramic material application aims to optimize the basic nature of pottery when applied to the elements of seating facility. Ceramic natural characteristic which is fragile will be overcome by process of material shape. The application of other materials combination as to accomplish seating facility design which is worthy to be marketed. This design is a development of a prototype previously made by designer himself. The method used consists of understanding the nature of ceramic, making the concept of problem solving, prototype, and branding. The result of this design is 3 sets of seating facility design and 1 set of prototype. Ceramic material can be applied to the sitting facility while maintaining its original properties. This design has a chance to be developed further.

Abstract

As one of the major provinces in Indonesia, South Sulawesi has many tourist destinations, in particular culinary tourism. Wealth ideals and sense embodied in a wide variety of culinary make the typical cuisine of South Sulawesi is renowned as one of Indonesian cuisine. This became the advantages to attract tourists, both local and foreign tourists to learn more about Indonesia, especially South Sulawesi. However, it is still less available dining facilities that provide unique culinary. The typical cuisine is available in several different dining venues or separately. To facilitate the tourists to try and taste the flavor of Sulawesi’s cuisine, takes an area or dining facilities where in it provides a variety of unique culinary South Sulawesi. To introduce South Sulawesi to tourists can be realized not only from the culinary aspect, but also from the interior design. Interior reflecting regional locality. Although the design follows the trend of the times now, but still blend with the local environment. The method used is a methodology of design thinking, which involves the process of collecting data, analysis, find the concept to final design. Modern traditional design concept is expected to attract tourists and become an icon of culinary centre in Makassar.

Abstract

is a city in East Java that has abundant of nature, culture, and attractions that continue to grow. Its location close to the island of Bali makes Banyuwangi become a liaison path that many tourists pass by. With this potential, its increase the tourism sector in Banyuwangi, that can be an important factor to support its progress. Many potentials are being developed by the local government to continue to improve the city of Banyuwangi, especially the potential of culture and tourism.Designing Tourism Activity Center has two main objectives as a means of education and socialization. The purpose of education is to accommodate the activities of tourists visiting the city of Banyuwangi in order to know the local culture. While the social objective is to facilitate the activities of art festivals held by the Local Government and develop the livelihood of the people of Banyuwangi through workshops or exhibitions. The design uses design thinking method based on theory by Gavin Ambrose and Paul Harris, consist of: define, research, ideate, prototype, select, implement, learn Implementation design using the concept from The Art of Exploring that apply in the local culture art of Banyuwangi into its design. Where in the process of exploring visitors can enjoy the atmosphere presented and provide its own experience through cultural elements in space.

Abstract

Nowadays, there are many new comers in fashion brand selling their products online. For more promotion need, they do the promotion by meeting their customers directly through a pop-up store. Pop-up store is a retail store that available in a short period of time. This design aims to put on trial of the knockdown system, the interior elements configuration, and the design of indoor shape-changing pop-up store as a promotion media of a brand. This design refers to fashion such as clothing, bags, and shoes. This design uses design thinking method by David Kelley which consists of empathize, define, ideate, prototype, test, and iterate. The result shows that the knockdown uses bolt and screw system, and the pop-up store design uses modular system. By using the knockdown system, the pop-up store can be overhauled easily and fast. Besides that, through the modular system, those modules can be used many times with different final looks of the pop-up store.

Abstract

Residential house is very essential for human being because it is a place for human to settle and have activities so that security must be adequate so human activity is not disturbed by existence of crime. The increasing number of criminal acts will affect the risk of crime in home so should be prevented. One way to prevent criminal action is using the concept of CPTED (Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design). This research is a qualitative research with case study approach. The case study object is a semi-detached type of residence in Sidoarjo. Stages of this research method is the collection of literature and field data, risk level vulnerability analysis of threats of criminal action and application of the concept of CPTED, proposing solutions, and conclusions. The research undertaken resulted in the identification of risk and vulnerability level of threats of criminal action on case study object and application of CPTED concept to object as well as proposed solution of CPTED concept application.

Abstract

Social gap has been a social phenomenon which is inseparable from people’s life, including in Saint Carolus Elementary School Surabaya. The gap among the grades has been growing into a habit where the juniors feel afraid to seniors. This affects the juniors couldn’t interact in the best way. Thus, a solution to minimize social gap impact is needed more than to eliminate the gap from people’s life, because finding the solution eliminating the gap that has been rooted would be too hard to do. This design is done with Design Thinking method, as it was popularize by Tim Brown, the CEO of IDEO. This method has 3 main steps which are inspiration, ideation and implementation. A design called Break-time Space is produced through the process. It is an area for break time can be used for interacting, playing and eating. It is hoped that this design will minimize the impact of social gap to make a better students’ interactions among partners and environments.

Abstract

Balsa wood (Ochroma pytamidale) is one of the lightest plants that grow fast (called Fast Growing Species or FGS). This advantage can fulfill the public needs of wood as the material of interior product. In addition, people currently need a flexible, movable and lightweight interior product for narrow spaces. As one of the lightest wood, Balsa wood can overcome this public need. However, Balsa wood is not commonly used in Indonesia as the interior product material. It is undeniable that this type of wood need a special treatment because Balsa wood has a lower level of density than other wood types. That fact makes Balsa wood is quite doubtful from the construction aspect. The authors conducted several experiments related to joining, finishing, and form of balsa wood. As the result, type of joints that suitable for this wood type are Half-lap and also Mortise-tenon. Based on Scandinavian style, the design concept is universal and simple. Furthermore, the author has not found an effective and efficient wood finishing which can cover wood’s deficiency, thus it needs further research

Abstract

Mbaru Niang is a traditional house at Wae Rebo in form of a cone, with total amount of seven houses with their own exoticsm. The architectural of Mbaru Niang always be the main focus of general discussion, while the interior and other functuions on every level of the shape of the rooms is rarely researched. As for Wae Rebo society, Mbaru Niang is a part of themselves, every level of the rooms has its own different purposes and meaning. This research aims to enrich the data analysis, and to give more knowledge to the successor generations. Semiotic methode of Pierce is used on this research to identify every signs of the essence through the variety of the icons, indexes, and symbols. The result of this Piercian method applied on the objects mentioned could lead to a conclusion on the purpose and essence of rooms of a Mbaru Niang, especially on Mbaru Gendang.
