Abstract

Indonesian oil palm plantation is progressing very rapidly, even it becomes business perspectives in the future. It has high competitiveness in the world market, unfortunately it is not supported by competent human resources in the field of administration. This occurs because of no mapping in the standard of administrators competence of oil palm plantations up to this time. Research and development of this model aims to produce a standard product competence administrators of oil palm plantations. The result of this research can be used to determine the position of human resources to meet the requirements of a competent workforce in objective, valid and reliable way . At conceptual development and empirical testing stages performed a series of feasibility studies, they are ; expert review of experts, the position holders review, linguists review and field trials. The analytical method used are a qualitative and quantitative. The result of the research competence of administrators obtained seven dimensions: accounting, finance, payroll, plant, purchasing, warehousing, and personnel. The highest reliability coefficient test result is on the financial dimension, and the lowest is on the dimensions of the plant.

Data gathered from surveys and interviews with student teachers and cooperating teachers for this study pointed the strengths of the mentoring program as well as pitfalls that need to be addressed. The cooperating teachers in the different partner schools identified elements which are believed to be areas of concern that make them feel the need to undergo capability building. The findings presented here are intended to inform the development of policies in building cooperating teachers‟ capability for effective mentoring.

Abstract

Questioning plays an important part in the teaching and learning science. Previous research has extensively focused on teachers‟ questions compared to students‟ questions. Research of students‟ questions is vital as it shows how students think and their understanding of a content studied. Hence, this research focuses on students‟ questions, types of questions asked and the sequence(s) after students‟ question. Twenty three chemistry teachers and their students of national secondary schools were involved in this study. Ninety two chemistry lessons were observed, audio and video recorded. Transcript of the lessons showed that students‟ questions were mainly related to content or science process skills as emphasised in inquiry teaching and learning. However, most questions asked by students were low order closed questions. The sequence after students‟ questions with the highest percentage (83.33%) was IR (Initiation from student, followed by teachers‟ response). This sequence showed that chemistry teachers in this study did not display inquiry-based questioning characteristics because in inquiry teaching, teachers should avoid responding to students‟ questions. Instead, they should provide opportunities for students to respond to their friends‟ questions. Hence, teachers should move towards student initiated inquiry, where students ask higher order thinking questions and increasing the interaction among the students.

Abstract

This study aims to explore an outlook of future quality basic education by deploying reference analysis varied sorts of resources. The analysis was conducted by analyzing current condition of improvement and enhancement of the learning access and opportunities of all primary school-aged children who reach Minimum Participation Rate (MPR) of 100% by 2015. This involved less economically developed, people living in remote, border and isolated areas and districts. Current and future analysis suggests the quality education lies not merely on achieving the MPR indicators of 100% along with the reduction of the percentage of students’ learning period and the number of dropouts and retakes, but also on analyzing the periodical competence benchmark on the literacy achievement of Indonesian children. The achievement is greatly influenced by economic growth illustrated in Gross National Income (GNI) and Gross Domestic Product (GDP). This study found that future basic education quality significantly affect the economic growth of Indonesia. Keywords: outlook of basic education, periodical competence benchmark, literacy achievement, GNI/GDP.

Abstract

This study explores the effects of recruitment, selection, competence and national policies to the changing conditions in Indonesia. 530 respondents from 25 provinces or 50 regencies/cities across Indonesia participated in questionnaire pools in the study. Data were processed using path analysis technique. Results reveal that the recruitment process by political parties, the selection process by the Election Commission, and the competence of the leader, have positive correlations to the policies and the outcomes. The study highlights that without any improvements in the recruitment, selection, competency of leaders, and policies, no changes could be made by the leaders. It implies that a redefinition and actualization of recruitment, selection, competence, and policies should be made to ensure the changes to take place. Keywords: change of national condition, actualization of recruitment, competencies, national policies.

Abstract

This study aims to compare five question packages used in the 2011 National Examination, specifically for Maths for Social Studies subject between public senior high school (SMA) and Islamic senior high school (MA) in Jakarta. It employed simple random sampling as its data collection technique. The independent variables used were the category of high schools and the Five Question Packages used in the National Examination. The schools were divided into two: regular senior high school (SMA) and Islamic senior high school or Madrasah Aliyah (MA). The packages chosen to be analyzed were package number: 12, 25, 39, 46 and 54. The data was analyzed by two-factor ANOVA for its 11 Differential Item Function (DIF) and 29 non Differential Item Function (non-DIF) items. The items used for this study are the items that fit the three-parameter logistic model. This study found that no difference between the scores on both the DIF and non-DIF items in either for SMA or Ma is found. Keywords: national examination in math, five packages, DIF, SMA, MA.
