Abstract

ABSTRACT: The study was carried out in Sidomulyo Village, Jabung, Malang Regen-cy from April 6th to May 6th, 2013. The objective of the study was to evaluate the influ-ence of Kersen leaf (Muntingia calabura L) extract to reduce mastitis incidents. The materials used in this study were 15 Friesian Holstein crossbreed lactating dairy cows, chemical antiseptic, and Kersen leaf extract. The study used experiment Randomized Block Design with 3 treatments and 5 replications. The result shows that Kersen leaf extract was significantly (p>0.05) able to reduce mastitis incidents particularly 20% of Kersen leaf extract composition. The study suggests that Kersen leaf extract can be used as an effective substance in dipping solution for dairy cows Mastitis control program. Keywords: Kersen leaf extract, mastitis, teat dipping, dairy cows

Abstract

ABSTRACT:  The quality of semen inseminated to the dam might influence on the fer-tilization process and fetal growth during pregnancy. The aim of this research was to analysis the litter size, birth and weaning weight of Boer x PE goat crosses. Forty one parous and multiparous Peranakan Etawah (PE) does were naturally mated with selected Boer buck (NM-group), while the other 24 does were inseminated using artificial tech-nique using semen collected from the same buck as NM-group  and called as AI-group. The result showed no significant differences in litter size, birth weight and weaning weight between kids resulting from the does mated naturally and artificially insemina-tion technique (1.8±0.64 vs. 1.79±0.58; 2.93±0.568 vs. 2.96±0.397 kg; and 11.06 ± 2.001 kg vs. 11.31 ± 1.54 kg, for litter size, birth weight and weaning weight, respec-tively. It was concluded that mating technique in cross mating between PE does x Boer buck did not influence on the litter size and early growth phase of kids. Keywords: PE does, Boer buck, natural mating, artificial insemination

Abstract

ABSTRACT: The study examines fat and water content, and the level of pesticide residues in rabbit’s meat which were fed cabbage leaves waste. The materials used in the study were 12 New Zealand White rabbits raised from 1.5 to 3 months of age. Those rabbits were divided into 3 different groups (large, medium and small) based on their initial body weight. The laboratory test shows there were several types of pesticide residues in the cabbage leaves and rabbit’s meat namely endosulfan, profenofos and chlorpyrifos. The lowest pesticide residues were found at small rabbit’s meat groups. In contrast, the fat content as well as the water content was found high at large rabbit’s meat groups.   Keywords: rabbits, cabbage, residues, fat content and water content

Abstract

The research aims at evaluating the effect of durian seed starch addition for chemical and organoleptic properties of chicken nuggets. Randomized Block Design was used in this research by using four treatments and five times replication, and continued with Duncan’s Multiple Range Test Method. Durian seed starch used with four different levels (0%, 5%, 10%, and 15%) was added to the dough of chicken nuggets. Chemical quality variables measured were water, fat and protein content, while the variable was measured on the organoleptic were texture, taste and flavor. The result showed that durian seed starch was used with different levels given effects of water content, fat content, texture and flavor. The best result was chicken nuggets made with added of durian seed starch 5%, the average percentage of water, fat, protein, preference of texture, taste and flavor in chicken nugget with the addition of durian seed starch were 70.59;  2.23; 16.90; 3.31; 3.81; and 4.10 respectively. The conclusion of this research was effect addition of durian seed starch on chicken nugget decreased contents of water, fat and protein, value of flavor and taste, but increased the value of texture. Keywords: chicken nuggets, durian seed starch

Abstract

This study aims at analyzing economic calculations of broiler farm activities which applied two different housing systems (closed and opened house system) at Malang Regency. Data were collected from two selected broiler farmers from April 15th to May 11st, 2013. Then the data were analyzed using economic and descriptive method. The results show that farmers who applied closed housing system were able to earn more profit (Rp2.214,-/bird/period) than those who applied opened housing system (Rp1.875,-/bird/period). However, farmers with closed housing system paid higher pro-duction costs than those with the opened housing system. Another findings show that both (closed and opened house) systems were economically viable for broiler production since they provide a good R/C ratio. This study suggests broiler farmers who tend to apply closed housing systems should modify the equipments which require higher costs. Keywords: Broiler farming, R/C ratio and BEP

Abstract

The research aims at determining the influence of azolla compost and effective microorganism (EM) application on the production of King Grass at the 1st and the 2nd cuttings at Sumbersekar field laboratory, Faculty of Animal Husbandry Brawijaya University for four months. The Randomized Block Factorial design was applied with two factors. The first factor was EM4 consists of E1 (EM4 addition) and E0 (without EM4). The second factor was the dosage of fertilizer consists of A100 (100% azolla + 0% urea), A75 (75% azolla + 25% urea), A50 (50% azolla + 50% urea), A25 (25% azolla + 75% urea) and A0 (0% azolla + 100% urea). The parameters observed comprised the number of tillers, plant height, dry matter (DM) leaf production, organic matter (OM) content, crude protein (CP) content. The study indicates that there were interaction (P<0.05) between EM4 and fertilizer (azolla) dosage on plant height, total OM, total CP, DM leaf production, DM stem production, total DM production, and total CP production at the first cutting. Then, at the second cutting there were interaction (P<0.05) among treatments on the number of tillers, total OM, total CP, DM leaf pro-duction, total DM production, and total CP. At the first cutting, the highest values of plant height, leaf OM, stem OM, leaf CP, stem CP, OM production were 86.39%, 92.40%, 7.85%, and 3.89% respectively found at ElA25. Furthermore, at the second cutting the best treatment were ElA25 in which the value of leaf CP content and total DM content were 8.08% and 4.64 kg/plot respectively. The leaf DM production and stem OM content at the first cutting were higher than those at the second cutting. It can be concluded that azolla can substitute the role of urea by 25%.

Abstract

ABSTRACT: The purpose of this research was to find out biogas production on national scale, Malang District, and one of the villages in Ngantang, Malang District. Besides, the aim of this research is to find out the influence of biogas digester on human health, animal, and environment. This research was done using literature study and secondary data taken from Sumber Makmur Cooperation in Ngantang and Animal Health and Livestock Bureau in Malang District. The result of this research shows the potency of biogas production in Indonesia is huge. The amount of cows and cattles in Indonesia is around 15 million heads could produce biogas 9 million m3/day or 3285 million m3/month. If 1 m3 biogass equal to 0,62 lt gasoline, so 3285 million m3/month biogass equal to 2,036 billion of gasoline. If  biogass used by  Indonesian people as alternative energy, so it can save Rp 22,4 billion/year (price of gasoline Rp 11.000). The amount of cows and cattles  in Malang District were 315.326 heads and potency of biogass production about 189.196 m3/day or 68.110.416 m3/year. While the total cattles and cows in Waturejo village, Ngantang, Malang District were 1532 tails, the potency of the gas production about 919.2 m3/day or  335.508 m3/year. Processing manure into biogas is beneficial for  human, livestock and environment’s health  because it reduces  release of gases such as methane and CO2 into the atmosphere, reduces pathogens contamination to foodstuffs such as vegetables and milk and prevents environmental pollutions by pathogens that can cause death to humans and livestock. Key words: biogas, economic and production potency, health
