Abstract

The purposes of this study were to analyze: 1) the constitution and characteristics of sludge, solid sludge and sludge flour derived from Biogas Unit (BGU); 2) the influence of organic sludge liquid on the percentage of organic and crude protein content of the BGU organic sludge (BGUOS). The methods used in the study were observation and randomized controlled trial experiments. Data derived from field study were analyzed descriptively while data derived from experiments were analyzed using variance analysis. Differences were shown using the smallest significance-p test with CI 95%. The results showed that organic sludge constitution were odious, the organic sludge was clotting after drying process. In addition it became powder as soft as bran after dried, powdered and brooded. The experiment showed that the composition of BGUOS liquid gave influence to the amount of organic content and crude protein in the powder constitution of BGUOS. The fifth treatment brought the optimum percentage of the organic content and crude protein. The research concluded that BGUOS constitution was detestable in its form of sludge, however it could be transformed into bran constitution by drying and brooding treatment. The optimum amount of organic content and crude protein of BGUOS bran were gained by using 5th treatment. The research suggest it is necessary to maintain BGUOS on the basis of local technology and to study the application of BGUOS solid powder or bran as fish and livestock feed. Keywords: Solid Biogas Unit Organic Sludge (Solid BGUOS), CP

Abstract

There were diffferent performance between silkworms breeded in Soppeng and Temanggung. There might be different proportion of parenstock and environment which causing polymorphism. This experiment was to know the genetic band pattern as the effect of the silkworm origin to the genetic characteristics. RFLP method was applied by using restriction enzymes of Pst1 and EcoR1. Based on DNA running by RFLP method using those enzymes, there was no different DNA slice fragment, either between breeding site or genetic polymorphism of each breeding site. This may be caused by the mutation happened in position DNA arrangement which was not recognized by the two enzymes

Abstract

The aim of this study was to determine the distribution of beef carcass component from Brahman Cross cattle at different slaughtered age. The number of cattle was 99 head (49 steers and 50 heifers), the body weight 350 - 500 kg and age ranged PI0 - PI2 classess. The cattle were raised in PT. Widodo Makmur Perkasa and then slaughtered at slaughter house in Cianjur District, West Java. Accidental sampling method was applied to the research. A direct observation was done to obtain information about age, sex, body weight and carcass weight and its part (meat, bone and fat). The data were analyzed using independent t-test, correlation and linear regresion. The result showed that the average slaughtered weight and carcas weight of Brahman Cross heifers was higher than that of Brahman Cross steers at PI0 sex-class (P<0.05). However, the dressing percentage was relatively similar (P>0.05). Average meat percentage of heifers and steers was also relatively similar (73.39% : 73.65%). Average bone percentage of steers was higher than that of heifers (14.82% : 14.33 %). Whereas, average fat percentage of heifers was higher than that of steers (11.00% : 10.21%). The research concluded that steers of Brahman Cross cattle at all age-classess had better distribution of carcass component than heifers in the same age-classess. Steers of Brahman Cross cattle at PI2 slaughtered age-class had an optimal distribution of carcass components. Keyword: Brahman Cross, slaughtered age, sex-class, distribution, carcas component.

Abstract

The purpose of this experiment was to investigate the main source of bacteria contamination in milk at smallholder dairy farmers. The research was conducted at Margo Rukun dairy farm group in Semarang regency. Samples were milk and possible bacteria contamination sources during milking process such as: milk bucket swab, cow teat skin swab, farmer’s hand swab, water used during milking and napkin for wiping the udder (cutted at 1x1 cm square). Observed parameter was total number of bacteria using total plate count (TPC) method. The data were analyzed by t-test and linear regression analysis. The result showed that the total bacteria in milk were 320.143 CFU/ml. Total bacteria in the bucket (320.143 CFU/ml) was higher (p<0.05) than that in the water (149.227 CFU/ml). However, total bacteria in the water did not differ with the total bacteria in the teat skin (109.833 CFU/ml). Total bacteria in the teat skin were higher (p<0.05) than that in the napkin (96.750 CFU/ml) and in the farmer’s hands (33.380 CFU/ml). Highest coeficient correlation (r=0.384) was found between total bacteria in milk and total bacteria in milk bucket, indicating that the milk bucket gave the highest contribution to bacteria contamination in milk. Keywords: milk, bacteria, contamination, milking

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to examine the optimum level of tomato powder addition as feedstuff on performances of quail including feed intake, Hen Day Production (HDP), egg weight, egg mass, feed conversion and Income Over Feed Cost (IOFC). One hundred twenty laying quails with 90 days old were used as intense of research. Feedstuffs were corn, rice bran, soybean meal, fish meal, pollard, premix and tomato powder. The treatments were P0 = feed without tomato powderaddition; P1 = feed with 5% of tomato powder addition; P2 = feed with 10% of tomato powder addition; P3 = feed with15% of tomato powder addition. Each treatment was repeated six times. The variables measured were feed intake, HDP, feed conversion, egg weight, egg mass, and IOFC. Data were analyzed using Analysis of Variance of the Completely Randomized Design (CRD) and if treatments showed significant differences then it was continued by Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DMRT). Results found that addition of tomato powder in the quail feed has indicated a similar effect to the control particularly on feed intake, HDP, egg weight, egg mass, feed conversion, and IOFC. Keywords: Lycopene, egg production, feed conversion, IOFC

Abstract

This research was carried out from October 25th to November 22th 2014 in Tani Wanita Lestari Sejahtera group at Modopuro village, Mojosari district-Mojokerto regency. The purpose of the research was to evaluate the influence of betle leaf extract in hatching eggs dyeing on the mortality and hatchability of embryos. The material of the research was 336 hatching eggs Mojosari duck owned by Mrs Suhartatik in Modopuro village. The research used experiment method by complete random scheme. The treatment consisted of four treatments and each treatment was repeated six times, so there were twenty four units of experiment. Each experiment used fourteen eggs so there were three hundred thirty six hatching eggs. The method of the treatments were P0= without dyeing, P1= Aquadest plus 10% of extract betle leaf, P2= Aquadest plus 20% of extract betle leaf, P3= Aquadest plus 30% of extract betle leaf . The variables were hatchability and mortality of the embryos. The result of the research showed that the effect of extract betle leaf was not significant (P>0,05) on hatchability. Besides the effect of 30% of extract betle leaf for dyeing process was not significant (P>0,05) on embryos mortality. The research concluded that extract betle leaf was not able to increase hatchability and was not able to decrease duck embryos mortality. It  means that extract betle leaf was not effective as substitute factor in cleaning process of hatching eggs before it was entered to the hatching machine. Keywords: Hatchability, embryos mortality

Abstract

The study was conducted to identify the effect of meniran plant powder (Phyllanthus niruri Linn.) on microorganism activity (Lactic Acid Bacteria (LAB) and Escherichia coli). The LAB extract was put in De Man, Rogosa and Sharpe (MRS) medium and the Escherichia coli extract was put in E-Coli Medium (EM). The pure culture LAB and Escherichia coli was used to identify the effect of meniran plant powder (Phyllanthus niruri Linn.) using diffusion method. The experiment consisted of 6 treatments (P0= aquadest 100%, P1= antibiotic 100%, P2= meniran plant powder 0%, P3= meniran plant powder 50%, P4= meniran plant powder 75% and P5= meniran plant powder 100%). Variables in this research were inhibition of BAL and Escherichia coli. The study used a Nested Completely Randomized Design and if there were different effects among the treatments it would be then followed by a Duncan’s Multiple Range test. The study showed that the use of meniran plant powder (Phyllanthus niruri Linn.) had a significant effect on inhibition of BAL and Escherichia coli (P<0.01). Keywords: meniran plant, feed additive, Lactic acid bacteria and Escherichia coli

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to investigate the quality and the best concentration of curcuma juice on salted egg. The method of this research was experimental research with Completely Randomized Design using 4 treatments and 4 replications. The curcuma juice were divided into P0 (0%), P1 (25%), P2 (50%) and P3 (75%). The variables were free fatty acids, pH and levels of curcumin. The data were analyzed by Analysis of Variance continued by Honestly Significant Difference test method by Tukey if there were sigificant differences among variables. The results of this research showed that the addition of curcuma juice 75% could improve the quality of salted eggs, reduced levels of free fatty acids (0.37%) and increased levels of curcumin salted egg (0.657 ppm). The addition of  curcuma juice couldn’t improve the quality of salted egg which was indicated by increased pH of albumin 7.94. The addition of curcuma juice indicated  similar result to the control treatment (P0) which was indicated pH of yolk  6.55. Keywords: functional food, curcuma juice concentration

Abstract

Research was conducted at the “Kampung Mandar” broiler slaughterhouses located in Riau Street, Kampung Mandar Village, Banyuwangi District. The research aimed to determine (i) the characteristics of carcass buyers, (ii) the level of satisfaction, (iii) the quality of services provided and (iv) factors that affect carcass buyers satisfaction on broiler carcass produced by small scale chicken slaughterhouse. One hundred respondents were selected by accidental sampling method and interviewed using a structured questionnaire. Primary data were obtained from the field (from the customers and chicken slaughterhouses owners) and secondary data were obtained from Central Board Statistics, online media and local government agencies (district office). Data were analyzed using descriptive, factor analysis and multiple regression analysis. The study showed that female traders aged 41-60 years with senior high school education and earned income between IDR. 900.001-1800.000 per month represented broiler carcass buyers. Another findings showed that buyers who considered senior carcass broiler tended to rebuy the product and transferred information to others. The study also found that service quality of broiler slaughterhouse were indicated by “carcass quality assurance and skill sellers”, “response to carcass buyers” and “appropriate equipments” and these were able to increase buyers carcass satisfaction. Keywords : poultry, consumer satisfaction, factor analysis.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to assess the optimal balance ration of concentrate and forage to improve dairy milk production. The research was conducted at regional operational unit Mulyorejo, Barukan village, Tengaran Sub District, Semarang Regency, and Banyu Aji Cooperative, Getasan Sub District, Semarang Regency. Data was analyzed at Feed Nutrition Science Laboratory, Faculty of Animal Husbandry and Agriculture, Diponegoro University Semarang. The research started from June 29 to July 31, 2014. The materials of this research were 12 Friesian Holstein dairy cows in second and third months of lactation with average estimated body weight 408.5±30.86 kg (Coefficient of Variance (CV) = 10.68%) with average milk production around 9.3±1.01 liters (CV = 14.33%). The study was experimental research with completely randomized design using three treatments, i.e. T0 (50% of concentrate and 50% of forage), T1 (45% of concentrate and 55% of forage) and T2 (40% of concentrate and 60% of forage). The results showed that T2 had a significant effect on milk fat content (P<0.05), solid non fat (SNF) content (P<0.05), milk protein content (P<0.01) and milk lactose content (P<0.05). This study concluded that the optimal balance ration of concentrate and forage to improve milk performance consisted of 40% of concentrate and 60% of forage. Keywords: Dairy cow, NDF, milk fat, solid non fat
