Abstract

The research aimed to know the effect of a liquid additive red dragon fruit (Hylocereus polyrhizus) on the performance of quail females aged 16-50 days with different treatment. The research was conducted at cage of Non Ruminant Feed Nutrition Science Laboratory, Department of Animal Nutrition and Feed, Animal Agriculture Faculty, Diponegoro University on September-December 2015. The research design based on Completely Randomized Design (CRD), with the control treatment and treatment liquid additives red dragon fruit twice a day, once a day and two days one. Each treatment was 5 times repeated. The parameters measured were feed consumption, weight gain, feed conversion and feed efficiency. The results showed that the treatment was not significant (P> 0.05) effects on feed consumption, weight gain, feed conversion and feed efficiency in quail. The average of T0, T1, T2 and T3 which feed consumption of 15.64; 15.85; 15.67 and 15.80 g/ head/day, weight gain of 118.70; 121.00; 124.20 and 126.90 g/head, feed conversion of 4.62; 4.58; 4.43 and 4.38 and feed efficiency of 21.68; 21.98; 22.65 and 22.92%. The conclusion is the treatment of a liquid additive red dragon fruit (Hylocereus polyrhizus) on quail resulted in feed consumption, weight gain, feed conversion and feed efficiency were similar to the control treatment that has not been able to improve the performance of quail aged 16-50 days. Keywords : quail, red dragon fruit, feed consumption, performances

Abstract

ABSTRACT: This research was purposed to find out the effect of difference concentration of tapioca starch on quality  chicken meatball chips with vacuum frying method based on chemical qualities (water content, water activities/Aw, protein and fat content), physical quality (breaking force and brightness) and organoleptic properties (color, taste and crispness). The result showed that addition of tapioca gives a significant effect (P<0.05) on water content, Aw, taste and crispness, whereas protein, fat content, breaking force and brightness of chicken meatball chips very significant effect (P<0.01), but didn’t gave significant effect (P>0.05) on color. The best result was chicken meatball chips made with used of tapioca 30%, It has water content 4.16%;, Aw 0.42, protein 33.06% and fat content 31,39%;  breaking force 5.43 N; brightness 51.3; color 6.64; taste 6.94; and crispness 6.74. The conclusion of this research was addition of tapioca in chicken meatball chips decreased water content, Aw, protein content, breaking force and increased fat content, brigtness and organoleptikproperties. The optimum addition of tapioca on chicken meatball chips were 30%.   Keywords: tapioca, chicken meatballs chips, chemical qualities.

Abstract

This research aims at investigating the proportion of several types of tree foliages leaves as animal feed in different locations and altitudes in Malang Raya. The case study was conducted in five districts of Malang Raya where were assumed as the centre of goat farms. The results showed that there were 30 types of forage used as goat feeds, both leaves of tree foliages and shrubs, or grasses, crop residues and others. Most forages (73%) were leaves of tree foliages and shrubs, both legumes, and non-legumes. Tree foliage leaves were more used as goat feeds in the study area with higher altitude, whereas in the area with lower altitude, farmers also utilized grasses and crop residues. The leaves of tree foliages were Paraserianthes falcataria, Gliricidia sepium, Artocarpus heterophyllus, Leucaena leucocephala and Calliandra calothyrsus. Paraserianthes falcataria was most widely used in Klampok-Singosari (88.3%). The proportion of Calliandra calothyrsus ranged from 32 to 98%, while Gliricidia sepium was 58-98%, both were most widely used in Argoyuwono-Ampelgading. Artocarpus heterophyllus was most widely used in Wajak (90.3%), whereas Leucaena leucocephala leaf was used by all respondents (100%) in Sumberdem-Wonosari. It is necessary to evaluate the quality of these tree foliage leaves to provide a better animal feed through supplementation technology. Keyword: altitudes, foliages, leave, location

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to learn the model of empowerment to a rabbit farmer group which is named “Mandiri Jaya” through Agriculture Training and Self Supporting of Rural Program. This research employs survey method. This qualitative research choosed its key informants by using purposive sampling that was followed by Snowball sampling. The result of this research is the model of empowerment that was given to the rabbit farmer group which includes training provided of rabbits, human development, community development, and business development. Various forms of the training are given once in month for annualy. The material training provided includes how to manage the rabbit farmer group, so becomes profitable. For examples how to choose proper and high-quality feed, and to build a good housing system for the rabbit. The material of human development is given so the rabbit farmer group can develop the ideas, exchange their ideas and information with other members. The material of community development is given so that the farmers that are involved know how to build a safe and clean environment especially near the rabbit housing area. The material of business development is given so that the member of the group know how to be a good entrepreneur and the group becomes more advanced.

Abstract

The purpose of the research was to determine the effect of using various concentration of modification starch on pH, water content, viscosity and fat content. The research material were kefir made from cow's milk with kefir grains derived from animal product technology laboratory of Animal Husbandry Brawijaya University. The research method was an experimental research with randomized block design. The treatments were the addition of canna starch modification 0% (G0), 0.2% (G1), 0.4% (G2), 0.6% (G3), 0.8% (G4) and 1.0% (G5) of the milk volume. Each treatment was replicated 3 times. The result showed that the addition of modified canna starch provided highly significant effect (p<0.01) on pH, water content, viscosity and fat content. The study concluded that addition of canna starch modification could improve the quality of kefir in terms of pH, water content, and viscosity, protein and lactic acid bacteria. The addition of 1% of canna starch modification had the best kefir quality. Keywords: Kefir, canna starch modification, STTP

Abstract

Mastitis is an inflammation of the mammary gland, can be occured clinically or subclinically. One of the causes of mastitis is Staphylococcus epidermidis. This study was aimed to isolate and identify Staphylococcus epidermidis in subclinical mastitis PFH dairy cows in Wukirsari, Cangkringan, Sleman, DIY. Sixteen milk samples were tested with a Californian Mastitis Test (CMT), followed by inoculation in Brain Heart Infusion (BHI), planted on a blood agar plate plate (PAD) and Mac Conkey Agar (MCA) for 24 hours at 370C. The growing colonies were then grown on sugar sugar and nutrient agar (NA) media. Gram staining, catalase test, coagulase test and DNase test as bacteria confirmation.CMT test results showed 15 (93.75%) out of 16 positive milk samples suffered from subclinical mastitis. Results of isolation showed 1 (6.66%)of 16 positive samples infected with Staphylococcus epidermidis.The results of this study indicate that incidence of subclinical mastitis in the study area showed a high rate and is likely to be caused by inadequate management practices and milking procedures. The high incidence of subclinical mastitis is probably caused by other bacteria because only 6.66% is caused by Staphylococcus epidermidis.

Abstract

Characteristics of respondents the majority (54.38%) were at a productive age,  in the study area had a low educational background were 89.28% the elementary school. Respondents (49.12%) had more than 20 years of farming experience. Ongole Crossbreed (PO) were the most preferred cattle raised by the majority of respondents (57.89%). The respondents mostly (94.74%) sold their cattle to the local trader or middlemen. Who sold their cattle directly to the animal market opted Pakis as the most preferred location (40.35%). The majority of respondents (68.42%) agreed that middlemen played a crucial role in determining the selling price. The selling price of cattle in producers level has a low correlation (r = 0.32) with price in the traders level. Also, the price transmission was low (0.00099). The farmers earned monthly on average Rp 113.160 per animal, the local traders Rp 375.000 per animal. This low-income share caused by the fact that farmers should pay production costs as an amount of Rp 2.329.772 per animal per year or Rp 194.147 per animal per month.

Abstract

  Abstract : Study on genetic potency of pure line Boer was conducted at station research of Sumber Sekar, Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Brawijaya University, Malang, Indonesia. A number of 85 offspring resulted from crossing between dam of Local and sire of 6 (six) blood lines of Boer goat were used in the study. Data were analysed using the analysis of variance procedure with REML (Restricted Maximum Likelihood) method using mixed procedure of SAS. The overall mean of birth weight of offspring crossbred Boer - Local was 3.10 kg ± 0.73 kg. There was no significant difference in birth weight of offspring between blood lines and also between sire within the blood lines. Analysis of variance showed that the average of birth weight was highly significant (P<0.01) affected by type of birth and sex determination of the offspring. The mean values for single, twins and triplets kids were 3.26 ± 0.33 3.20 ± 0.75 and 2.51 ± 0.64, respectively. Type of birth tended to be twins (70.24%) and the rest were for single (15.48%) and triplets (14.29%). Estimation of variance components were 0,052 and 0,406 for blood line and error variance, respectively. Heritability value was moderate, which was 0,4541. Abstract

The research aimed to evaluate the effect of different quality of diet on yolk relative weight and leukocytes profile of post-hatch Kedu chicks. The research used 105 birds of day-old Kedu chicks, which were devided into T0 = fasted for three days post-hatch continued feed farmer ration; T1 = farmer’s ration; T2 = improved rations. Improved ration contains higher protein and energy than the farmer’s ration. Completely randomized design (CRD) with split in time was assigned to the present study. The main plot was age of chicks and the subplot was dietary treatment. Parameters measured were yolk relative weight, leukocyte and differential leukocyte profiles. The results showed that there was no significant effect on either interaction (P>0.05) between age and dietary nutriens quality or the main plot on yolk relative weight, leukocytes and differential leukocyte profiles in Kedu chicks 6 days post-hatch. However, yolk relative weight was affected significantly by the sublot, and other parameters were the same. Conclusion of the research was that the yolk relative weight, leukocyte and differential leukocyte profiles remained stable in 6 days post-hatch Kedu chicks despite being given ration with the different nutrients quality, including fasted-group’s chicks three days after hatch. Keywords: post-hatch Kedu chicks, egg yolks, leukocyte profiles, improved ration

Abstract

The study was conducted to evaluate the effect alpha-tocopherol addition on the quality of muscovy duck semen during the storage process at 4 0C. The materials of the study were 4 male Muscovy ducks aged between 1.5 – 2.0 years old. Semen was collected twice a week and its quality was evaluated immediately after the collection. The collected semen was kept in refrigerator for 60, 120 and 180 minutes using a medium containing alpha-tocopherol 0; 0.2; 0.4 and 0.6 ppm. Then quality of the stored semen was evaluated. The study found that semen quality decreased during the storage process. The study concluded that addition of alpha-tocopherol was able to increase superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity and decrease the malondialdehide (MDA).   Keywords: Muscovy duck semen, cold storage, alpha-tocopherol, SOD, MDA
