Abstract

The research purpose was to determine the nutrient content of dried poultry waste molasses block (DPW-UMB). The use of dried poultry waste in the manufacture of the urea-molasses block was as a substitute of urea and could improve the value added in dry season. The treatments used for research were T1 (15% manure layer chicken and 25% molasses), T2 (10% manure layer chicken and 30% molasses), and T3 (20% manure layer chicken and 30% molasses). Chemical analysis: the dried of poultry waste were analyzed for dry matter, crude protein, crude fiber, ash, fat, and gross energy. The statistical formulation diet composed of Microsoft Excel Ver. 2016. The results showed that the 20% manure layer chicken and 30% molasses (T3) were better than T2 and T1 on nutrient content with 92.04% Dry Matter (DM), 13.34% Crude Protein (CP), 13.39% Crude Fiber (CF), 37.16% ash, 3.44% fat, but low in Gross Energy (GE) (2631.63 kcal/kg). It could be concluded that dpw-umb T3 were dried of poultry waste contained sufficient levels of gross energy, crude protein, crude fiber, ash, and fat it could be used as feedstuff for ruminants for supplementation with the required nutrients.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to assess the optimal balance ration of concentrate and forage to improve dairy milk production. The research was conducted at regional operational unit Mulyorejo, Barukan village, Tengaran Sub District, Semarang Regency, and Banyu Aji Cooperative, Getasan Sub District, Semarang Regency. Data was analyzed at Feed Nutrition Science Laboratory, Faculty of Animal Husbandry and Agriculture, Diponegoro University Semarang. The research started from June 29 to July 31, 2014. The materials of this research were 12 Friesian Holstein dairy cows in second and third months of lactation with average estimated body weight 408.5±30.86 kg (Coefficient of Variance (CV) = 10.68%) with average milk production around 9.3±1.01 liters (CV = 14.33%). The study was experimental research with completely randomized design using three treatments, i.e. T0 (50% of concentrate and 50% of forage), T1 (45% of concentrate and 55% of forage) and T2 (40% of concentrate and 60% of forage). The results showed that T2 had a significant effect on milk fat content (P<0.05), solid non fat (SNF) content (P<0.05), milk protein content (P<0.01) and milk lactose content (P<0.05). This study concluded that the optimal balance ration of concentrate and forage to improve milk performance consisted of 40% of concentrate and 60% of forage. Keywords: Dairy cow, NDF, milk fat, solid non fat

Abstract

Coconut water extender is the solution to the difficulty and high cots of procurement of diluents. The objective of this study was to examine the effect of various formulations of coconut water extender on quality of PO bull sperm during storage in 4-5 oC. This study was carried out at Animal Reproduction Laboratory of Faculty of Animal Husbandry Brawijaya University and Laboratory of Beef Cattle Research Center Grati Pasuruan on March to April, 2018. The study method used laboratory experimental. The experimental design was Factorial Randomized Completely Block Design and the data were analyzed by Analyze of Variance. There are four treatments in this study (P0 = CEP-3 + 20 % of yolk, P1 = Coconut Water + 20% of yolk, P2 = Coconut Water + 20% of yolk + 0,4% white egg + fructose 1 mg/ml, dan P3 = Coconut Water + 20% of yolk + 0,4% white egg + fructose 2 mg/ml) and ten replications of each treatment. There were significant differences in sperm motility between CEP-3 extender and coconut water-based with various formula extenders during chilled storage at 2-5 oC. But the treatment between coconut water-based formulas did not show a significant difference. Coconut water extenders are able to maintain sperm motility up to day 5 with values above 57%.

Abstract

The objective of the research was to determine the relationship between body weight and body measurement of Peranakan Etawah (PE) goat male at different age in Klaten Regency. The research was conducted in District Karangnongko and Kemalang. The research used 98 male goats aged 0-60 months and the data were analyzed using correlation and regression. The study found a very positive relationship between the chest girth, the body length, shoulders height, chest depth and body weight on goats aged 0-6 months until 12-24 months of age. Another findings were goats with 24-36 months of age had a very positive relationship between chest girth and the body length with body weight, while shoulders height and chest depth had a positive correlation with body weight. A very positive relationship was also found on the chest girth with body weight of goats with age of 36-60 months, while other body measurements had a very low positive relationship. The study concluded that chest girth had a close correlation with body weight of the PE goat. Keywords: Body measurements, body weight, Peranakan Etawah

Abstract

The research aims at determining the influence of azolla compost and effective microorganism (EM) application on the production of King Grass at the 1st and the 2nd cuttings at Sumbersekar field laboratory, Faculty of Animal Husbandry Brawijaya University for four months. The Randomized Block Factorial design was applied with two factors. The first factor was EM4 consists of E1 (EM4 addition) and E0 (without EM4). The second factor was the dosage of fertilizer consists of A100 (100% azolla + 0% urea), A75 (75% azolla + 25% urea), A50 (50% azolla + 50% urea), A25 (25% azolla + 75% urea) and A0 (0% azolla + 100% urea). The parameters observed comprised the number of tillers, plant height, dry matter (DM) leaf production, organic matter (OM) content, crude protein (CP) content. The study indicates that there were interaction (P<0.05) between EM4 and fertilizer (azolla) dosage on plant height, total OM, total CP, DM leaf production, DM stem production, total DM production, and total CP production at the first cutting. Then, at the second cutting there were interaction (P<0.05) among treatments on the number of tillers, total OM, total CP, DM leaf pro-duction, total DM production, and total CP. At the first cutting, the highest values of plant height, leaf OM, stem OM, leaf CP, stem CP, OM production were 86.39%, 92.40%, 7.85%, and 3.89% respectively found at ElA25. Furthermore, at the second cutting the best treatment were ElA25 in which the value of leaf CP content and total DM content were 8.08% and 4.64 kg/plot respectively. The leaf DM production and stem OM content at the first cutting were higher than those at the second cutting. It can be concluded that azolla can substitute the role of urea by 25%.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to measure the motility of Madura bullspermatozoa using three different diluents (tris aminomethane, CEP-2 andskim milk) duringcold storage. The research material used were 2 Madurabulls. Collecting semen method used artificial vagina, followed by freshsemen analysis and processing of liquid semen. Observation of liquid semenquality was carried out up to the 5th days of cold storage. Motilityexamination of semen liquid used Computerized Assisted Semen Analysis(CASA), namely SCA v.5.2. The parameters measured were: progressive motility,motility, velocity straight linear (VSL), velocity curve linear (VCL),velocity average pathway (VAP), straightness (STR), linearity (LIN), wobble(WOB), hyperactivity (H), Beat cross frequency (BCF), amplitude lateral head(ALH). Data was analyzed by Minitab 17. Motility and progressive motility ofspermatozoa in tris aminomethane and CEP-2 were higher than skim milk for 5days of cold storage. The VCL value of tris aminomethane was higher thanCEP-2 and skim milk. VSL scores barely show the difference among diluents.VAP values in tris aminomethaneand CEP-2 are higher than skim milk at thebeginning of storage. The LIN, STR and WOB values of the CEP-2 and skim milkyield higher values than tris aminomethane. The percentage value ofhyperactivity spermatozoa was same among diluents. The ALH value oftrisaminomethane was higher than CEP-2 and skim milk. BCF values in CEP-2was higher than skim milk and tris aminomethane. Tris aminomethane and CEP-2can support the motility of Madura bull spermatozoa than skim milkfor 5 daysof storage

Abstract

The objectives of the study was to analyse the relationship between dam and their offspring on the basis of body measurement and body weight at some partus types. In this study, 85 ewes and 127 lamb were used as materials. Purposive sampling was used to determine the samples of partum type of ewes having single (A1), twin (A2) and more than two lambs (AL2). Parameters measured were the body length, shoulder height, hip width, chest circumference and chest width. The results showed that all body measurement of dam related to the lambs. The highest correlation were in ≥ P2 for shoulder height, chest circumference, hip width and body length. Those were 0.310: 0.702: - 0.655 and 0.373 respectively. In conclusion, there was relationship on all birth type and parameters between dam and lambs. The AL2 showed closer relationship as compared to that of A1 and A2. Those were body length, shoulder height, chest circumference and hip width.   Keywords: body measurements, regression, birth type, sheep

Abstract

The main bioactive compound in skin Allium ascalonicum is quercetin, which serves as antibacterial and anticholesterol agent. The purpose of this research was to investigate the effect of skin Allium ascalonicum powder supplementation on blood profile and egg cholesterol content of quail. One hundred and forty-four quails were randomly allocated in 24 flocks, consisting 4 treatments and 6 replications. Each replication consisted of 6 quails. The treatments used were P0: basal diet (control), P1: basal diet +1% skin powder Allium ascalonicum, P2: basal diet + 2% skin of Allium ascalonicum powder, and P3: basal diet + 3% skin of Allium ascalonicum powder. Variables observed were blood erythrocytes, hemoglobin and egg cholesterol content. Data were analyzed using one-way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). Significant data was then further analyzed using Duncan Multiple Range Test. The result showed that there was no significant effect (P>0.05) of shallot skin powder on blood erythrocytes and hemoglobin of quail.There was significant effect (P<0.05) of skin Allium ascalonicum powder supplementation on egg cholesterol content. Supplementation of skin Allium ascalonicum powder at the level of 3% (P3) could decrease egg cholesterol content compared to control (682.20 mg/dL vs 729.80 mg/dL). The conclusion of this research is that skin of Allium ascalonicum powder supplementation could decrease cholesterol content in quail egg.
Accuracy of heart girth for predicting live weight of Aceh cattle

Abstract

Data on live weight (LW) at 550 days of age and body measurements such as withers height (WH), body length (BL) and heart girth (HG) of Aceh bull and heifer have been collected from 79 animals (39 males and 40 females) managed at the Indrapuri’s Breeding and Forages Centre (IBFC) of Aceh Cattle, Indrapuri District, Aceh Besar Regency, Aceh Province, Indonesia to estimate the LW from body measurements. The overall means (+ SD) for LW, WH, BL and HG of Aceh cattle over sexes were 129.37 + 30.84 kg, 96.59 + 7.11 cm, 93.10 + 11.77 cm and 118.15 + 11.08 cm, respectively. The study revealed that HG was the best predictor of LW and this variable alone contributed 70% (female), 86% (male) and 74% (all animals) of the variation in the LW of Aceh cattle. It was concluded that highest determination coefficient (R2) value of simple linear regression model was found on model LW (kg) = -172.47 + 2.59HG (cm), whereas this model were more effective and efficient for predicting the LW of male Aceh cattle. Abstract

This research aims to discover the effect of powder and liquid probiotic addition in laying’s feed towards their production. This research involved 144 Isa Brown layer with 6 months (24 weeks) age and liquid probiotic containing Lactobacillus sp bacteria with the composition of 1,4 x 1010 cfu/ml, while the solid probiotic that was used using skim milk media was processed into powder. The method used was experimental, employing nested Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 2 factors and 6 actions, in which every action is given 4 times repetition; each repetition consisted of 6 layer. The data was analyzed using variety analysis and examined further by the Duncan test. Research result showed that the addition of powder or liquid Lactobacillus sp probiotic gave a positive effect on consumption amount, feed conversion, HDP, egg mass, IOFC, and egg mass of layer. It can be concluded that the addition of powder probitotic is better than the liquid one, while 0.6% of addition can increase the performance of laying production. Concluded that the addition of probiotics in solid form was better than liquid form, while the level of administration of 0.6% could improve the production of layer.
