Abstract

The objectives of this research are to analyze competitiveness and the impact of government’s policy of maize farming in several central productions in Indonesia. This research was conducted to analyze maize competitiveness using PAM (Policy Analysis Matrix) method. Data sample was conducted at four maize production centers, including East Java, Central Java, West Java, and South Sulawesi. The results show the forth centre have competitiveness. This showed by PCR values in some production areas less than 1 and for competitive advantage, indicated by DRCR values in production areas also less than 1. Analysis of the Government policy aspect, the government has been able to provide positive incentives for maize farming in North Jawa, Centre of Jawa and West Java. The impact of government policy on inputs and outputs simultaneously can provide a positive incentive to farmers at maize production sites in Java. But the government’s policy hasn’t been able to provide for output in Sulawesi Selatan.  The conclusion is the fourth centres of maize production have competitive and comparative advantage. Sulawesi Selatan has high comparative advantages, so Sulawesi Selatan has high  potential to improve maize farming.

Abstract

Palm sugar as a source of income is mostly produced by palm sugar producers who are in the village, depending on the population of existing palm trees. Available raw materials and prevailing prices affect income. This study aims to (1) analyze the structure of production costs and business income of palm sugar and (2) analyze the factors that influence the income of palm sugar producers in Rejang Lebong Regency, Bengkulu Province. The method used to analyze the cost structure is income analysis (π = TR - TC) by calculating the use of total costs (TC = TFC + TVC) used in once production process. Factors that influence palm sugar income are  price of palm sugar, number of productive trees, and yield of palm sugar. Primary data obtained from palm sugar prodicers using questionnaires and secondary data obtained from previous research. Analysis of factors that influence income using multiple linear regression analysis,  processed using the SPSS 16.0 Program. Research results show that the average income obtained by palm sugar craftsmen in Rejang Lebong District is Rp 150,374 / production. Palm sugar processing business is still feasible to be a business and profitable because the value of profitability obtained is 1.23. Factors that influence income significantly at the level of 95 percent in the form of prices and number of productive trees. Improvements in technological innovations and an increase in the population of palm sugar plants need to be improved to be able to increase the income of palm sugar’ producers in the Rejang Lebong Regency of Bengkulu Province.

Abstract

Corn (Zea mays L.) is a potential agribusiness commodity in meeting food needs. In the national economy, corn is the second largest contributor after rice in the food subsector. One potential area for corn production is Kupang Regency which has a lot of marginal lands (dry land). This study aims to determine the factors that influence the production and technical efficiency of corn farming in Kupang Regency. This study, using the Cobb-Douglas production function method, is a functional form of the corn production function in the study area and the Stochastic Frontier method is estimated using the Ordinary Least Square (OLS) and Maximum Likelihood Estimation (MLE) methods. The results showed that all the variables in the significant model were soil, seeds, Urea, KCL, SP36, pesticides and had signs that matched expectations. The study also found that farmers were technically efficient with an average of 75 percent and factors that had a significant influence on increasing technical personnel, namely age, formal education and income.

Abstract

Entering the international trade era, Indonesia must has the right strategy to maintain its position as an exporter in the world. One strategy which can be implemented is to increase the competitiveness of export commodities that have comparative and competitive advantages in order to be able to compete with other countries' commodities. Therefore, an in-depth study is needed on increasing the competitiveness of shrimp commodities in order to increase fisheries commodity exports. The purpose of this study was to analyze the factors which affect the competitiveness of Indonesian shrimp commodity exports in four export destination countries and to formulate strategies to increase production potential and competitiveness of shrimp commodities in the markets of the four export destinations. This research was conducted in intensive and semi-intensive pond areas in Lampung and shrimp processing centers in East Java from January until November 2016. The types of data source were primary data from observation and secondary data in panel data form. Some of the analytical methods used in analyzing competitiveness are Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA), the gravity model for analyzing factors that influence shrimp export offerings in export destination countries. Data processing is done using Microsoft Excel 2007 and E views 6. The analysis of the competitiveness of Indonesian shrimp commodity exports showed that during the period 2004 - 2014, Indonesian shrimp commodities had a comparative advantage or strong competitiveness in Japan, the USA and the United Kingdom. Estimated results from the data panel regression model, note that the factors that significantly influence the value of Indonesian shrimp exports are the nominal GDP of the destination country, the rupiah exchange rate, economic distance, and the value of Indonesian shrimp exports in the previous year. The strategy in increasing the production capacity and competitiveness of domestic shrimp business actors is to maintain the availability and quality of shrimp farming resources, especially quality shrimp seeds.

Abstract

This study was aimed to analyze the supply chain distribution patterns of forest honey in the West Sumbawa through Sumbawa Forest Honey Network or Jaringan Madu Hutan Sumbawa (JMHS) using descriptive qualitative data. This study uses a supply chain distribution pattern approach based on the product, financial and information flow. In the product flow, honey is harvested by honey hunters in the forest and assembled to a group leader. Then, honey is handed over to JMHS and marketed at Rumah Madu” (Honey House). The forest honey harvest season in Sumbawa is between August-December. Honey hunters can harvest 15-20 liters of honey per hunter in one hunting day. In financial flow, we observed that the pricing of honey is decided by JMHS according to the market price and the harvest season. Honey price from the hunter is ranging from 60,000 - 75,000 IDR per 660 ml bottle. The purchasing price of honey by JMHS is 65,000-85.000 IDR per 660 ml bottle and after the packaging by JMHS, honey is marketed to the last consumers with a selling price of 110,000 IDR per 500 ml. The information flows in both directions. The group of honey hunters inform to JMHS about the locations of honey as well as the amount of harvested. In the JMHS side, they distribute information of the classification and quality of honey, provide the good harvest training and information on honey price to hunters.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the sustainable status of oil palm plantation management and determine the most dominant attributes to sustainability in Trumon, South Aceh Regency. Data analysis using Multi Dimensional Scalling method and sensitivity analysis. The results of the analysis of the sustainability status of oil palm plantations, index values of each dimension with dimensions of 64,04, technology dimensions 53,26, economic dimensions 48,83, demonstration dimensions 45,54, and the lowest index values according to the social dimension 35,92. There are nine main attributes or key factors related to the sustainability of the management of oil palm plasma nucleus plantations, namely: 1) residents working in the plantation sector, 2) time and method of providing fertilizer to harvest, 3) FFB prices at farm level, 4) accessibility of farmer groups to banks, 5) land management administration, 6) Village communication accessibility, 7) farmer groups, 8) use of land and air conservation technology, 9) Management of crop disturbing crops (OPT). Index of multi-dimensional sustainability of oil palm plantation management nucleus-plasma pattern is 49,10 means that the sustainability status is still lacking. This has an impact on reducing involvement in agribusiness activities, lack of farmers' participation in farmer groups and KUD, because the role of this institution to access capital to banks does not support formal education, so that communication between farmers and institutions is inadequate.
