Abstract

The purpose of  this study was to analyze the economic efficiency of organic rice farming compared conventional rice farming. This study conducted using a cross section data from 100 farmers in Tasikmalaya  Regency. The farmers are selected using proportionate stratified random sampling technique which is divided into equal size of two levels. Study was performed using stochastic frontier production function and estimated by Maximum Likelihood Estimation (MLE) method.  The result showed that the mean economic efficiency of the organic farmers (0,53) is higher compared conventional farmers (0.43). Cost saving of seed and high production in organic farming as a source of gain in economic efficiency. Knowledge on the factors influencing  farm efficiency is crucial for policy makers to improving efficiency levels.

Abstract

Drying nutmeg companies rely on sunlight to dry the nutmeg. In fact, Bogor District has a high rainfall intensity. This condition can be overcome by using oven technology. By using oven technology, production process does not rely on the weather, the product will dry evenly, and does not require a large area. The purpose of this study is to analyze the business potential of nutmeg in Tamansari Sub-district and to design a business planbased on financial and non financial aspects. Interview was conducted to farmers and three nutmeg drying companies who were selected by snow ball sampling method. Other data were obtained from literature such as newspaper, internetand others. The results revealed that Tamansari Sub-district is an area that has the potential of natural resources, human resources, demand and marketing to develop business nutmeg. Price of dried seed was determined as Rp110 000 per kg and dried mace as Rp130 000 per kg. The target market is the export market. CV is chosen as the business form. NPV is Rp827 682 000, Net B/C3.83, IRR 67 per cent and payback period 1.92(1 year 9 months). BEP value is Rp108 248 600 in the first year and Rp372 745 700 in the next years. Business planning is feasible based on financial and non-financial analyses.

Abstract

Efficiency is an important aspect for farmer that can be used as a measuring tools to make a decision regarding production among available options. There are many different types of efficiency on the farm businesses level, technical efficiency is the one important to note. The objectives of this research is (1) to describe the farming techniques and the use of paddy production inputs, (2) to evaluate the technical efficiency of paddy farm, and (3) to identify the factors that influence the technical efficiency of paddy farms in Kalibuaya Village, Telagasari district, Karawang regency. To analyze the data, data envelopment analysis (DEA) approach and tobit regression are applied. In 2014 growing season, farmers were did not use the inputs in the right amount as being recommended by the instructor, such as the use of seed and fertilizer. The use of Urea, NPK, and labor had the largest percentage of input slacks when compared to the other production inputs. Farmers could reduce the use of urea by 19,173 kg, NPK by 19,319 kg, and labor by 1,385 HOK to make the paddy farm technically efficient. One of the factors that can greatly influence the improvement of farming technical efficiency is the socio-economic factors. Factors that affecting the technical efficiency of paddy farm in Kalibuaya Village were the age, the level of formal education, the use of organic fertilizers, and farming experience. Using the right amount of inputs as recommended by the government can improve the efficiency of paddy farm.

Abstract

Broiler farm is one of businesses that have a high risk level for production and price, but it doesn’t reduce the interest of broiler farmers to commercialize broiler. This indicates that broiler farmers have the entrepreneurial characteristics that can be studied and linked to the performance of the business itself. The objectives of this research are to identify the entrepreneurial characteristics of the broiler farmers and the correlation of entrepreneurial characteristics to the business performance of broiler farm. The results showed that risk taking character was the most dominant character owned by broiler farmers in Pamijahan, Bogor. Furthermore, the ability of breeders in carrying out their businesses had a significant correlation to the effectiveness of labor in broiler poultry. Then, the leadership skills, risk taking characters, ability to make some decisions, and the ability of breeders in carrying out their businesses had a significant correlation to determination of chicken harvested.

Abstract

The low productivity of milkfish produced by traditional technology encourage the development of new farming technologies to increase productivity. Semi-intensive technology has evolved since the 2000s. However, this technology increases the cost of production because of the additional input of artificial feed. One of the regencies which produce milkfish using both traditional and semi-intensive technology is Karawang Regency. The objective of this research were to analyze profit and cost efficiency in traditional and semi-intensive techonology. The method of data collection conducted purposive as many as 30 milkfish farmers with traditional technology and 33 milkfish farmers with semi-intensive technology. The results show that semi-intensive technology provides a higher level of productivity and higher profitability. However, traditional technology was more efficient than semi-intensive technology. This condition causes the milkfish cultivation with traditional technology are still exist because it provides a higher return to capital.

Abstract

Customer satisfaction is the most important factors that affect the development market of RTD-ready to drink tea industry. Recently, consumer facing several product of ready to drink tea in the middle of tea industry competition, and Teh Kotak Ultrajaya was the pioneer of ready to drink tea in a box. The primary goal of this research is to analyze customer’s attitude of the brand meaning and consistency, secondary goal is to analyze the customer satisfaction toward Teh Kotak Ultrajaya as one of the ready to drink tea product. The research conducted in two countries, Indonesia and Thailand used qualitative and quantitative methods. Fishbein analysis was conducted to measure consumer’s attitude. Customer satisfaction analyzed using the customer satisfaction index (CSI) and importance and performance analysis (IPA). The finding shows that brand meaning and concistency of tea product represented by the unique taste of the tea, satisfaction feeling after consumed it, comfortable with Indonesian brand, and positive experience while in abroad. The result also shows that customers like Teh Kotak Ultrajaya in Thailand better than in Indonesia based on Fishbein score 15,13 in Thailand and 13,80 in Indonesia. Customer satisfaction index (CSI) was also increased from 78,67 percent to 81,67 percent, from satisfied into very satisfied, and there are no atributes in main priority performance to be improved based on IPA yet still has to maintain all of the good atributes on it.

Abstract

To analyzed the data, data envelopment analysis (DEA) approach and tobit regression were applied. Farmers were not use the the right amount of inputs as being recommended by the instructor, such as the use of seed, fertilizer NPK and urea. The use of Urea, NPK, and labor had the largest percentage of input slacks when compared to the other production inputs. Farmers in Jawa could reduce the use of urea by 6.75 kg, NPK by 14.96 kg, and labor by 7.45 HOK and farmers in outside Jawa could reduce the use of urea by 32.37 kg, NPK by 6.01 kg, and labor by 15.93 HOK  to make the paddy farm technically efficient. One of the factors that can greatly influence the improvement of farming technical efficiency is the socio-economic factors. Factors that affecting the technical efficiency of paddy farm in Jawa  were the age, the level of formal education, member of Farming group and the number of members in the household, and do not significantly affect the technical efficiency of paddy farm is acces formal finance, and ectention. Factors that affecting the technical efficiency of paddy farm in outside Jawa  were the age, the level of formal education, and member of Farming group and, and do not significantly affect the technical efficiency is the number of members in the household, acces formal finance, and ectention.

Abstract

Financial performance is one of measure to determine the condition of a business. The objectives of this research are: (1) to analyze the financial performance of broiler business in Kendari City; and (2) to analyze determinant factors of financial performance of broiler business in Kendari City. Research method uses financial ratio analysis and path analysis. The research was conducted in Kendari City with 72 respondents. The results of the research showed that: (1) number of chickens average 3.849 tails, were managed by partnership method and 8 times production in a year; (2) financial performance of broiler business are profitable; (3) number of production positive influenced by number of Day Old Chicken (DOC), number of labor, wide of cage, and experience on farming ; (4) the influence factor of current ratio, total assets turn over ratio, and profitability are number of production, equity ratio, and experience on farming. Based on the research results, then recomendate to: (1) farmers need to increase the production capacity of each production cycle or expanding businesses to use assets more efficiently and the income generated is also greater; (2) therefore the financial performance of broiler business was positively affected by the number of production, equity ratio, and experience on farming, to be able to increase operating profit and financial performance of the business it is suggested that these three things improved.

Abstract

Women entrepreneurs as the family support unit that plays a role in increasing the family income, has a performance which is still low compared to male entrepreneurs. The purpose of this study was to analyze (1) the profile of women entrepreneurs and snack food industry; (2) the influence of personal characteristics, internal and external business environment, as well as entrepreneurial behavior to business performance of women entrepreneurs. This study used survey method that conducted  in Limapuluh Kota Regency and Payakumbuh City. Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) was used for descriptive and quantitative analysis. The respondents used were 105 women entrepreneurs. The results showed that: (1) women entrepreneurs engaged in the snack food industry in West Sumatera in general are in the productive age above 40 years, the business managed by women entrepreneurs in general is still relatively small business with income average of Rp1.687.000 per week; (2) the personal characteristics, internal environment of business, external environment of business, and the entrepreneurial behaviour has positive and significant influence to business performance. The most dominant personal characteristics which influence the business performance were education and family background, the most dominant  internal environment which influence business performance was financial aspect, the most dominant external environment which influence business performance was marketing and the most dominant entrepreneurial behavior influences the business performance was innovation. Women entrepreneurs were encouraged to improve human resources and risk taking by borrowing capital to develop the business.
