Abstract

Vegetable is one of agricultural commodities that has potential related with economic value. Nowadays, business in vegetable field especially Japanese vegetable is beginning to develop. A large number of Japanese restaurant in Jabodetabek becomes a big opportunity for surrounding Japanese vegetable farmer to become supplier. One of Japanese vegetable that widely consumed and now beginning to attract horticultural farmers is Horenso. Agro Segar Farmers Group is one of the farmers group in Cianjur that cultivate Japanese vegetable include Horenso. The income from Japanese vegetable is more profitable than other commodities and demand from Japanese restaurants and hotels in Jabodetabek are also quite high. Horenso demand that reached 70 kilogram per day requires an adequate supply in everyday. Highly demand of Horenso with limited land ownership and production takes an efficient production methods in order to optimize crop yields per unit area of land and also maximize farm income. The purposes of this research are to analyze farmers income in Agro Segar Farmers Group and to analyze technical efficiency of Horenso cultivation. Income analysis applied using R/C ratio and  frontier production function applied using MLE estimation procedure with assuming that Cobb Douglas is a functional form of production function in this research. The result from R/C ratio is 2,79 and 2,72. It shows that farmer’s income in Agro Segar Farmers Group is profitable. Seed and pesticide have a negative effect on production function. Farmer’s age, experience, counseling dummy and land ownership dummy have a positive effect on technical inefficiency.

Abstract

Efficiency can be used as a measurement for decision making. Technical efficiency is one of them. The objectives of the research are (1) to analyze farming techniques and input usage, (2) to measure the technical efficiency and (3) to identify factors affecting technical efficiency of maize farm in Gunung Malang, Tenjolaya, Bogor Regency. Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) approach and Tobit Regression are used to analyze. The result shows that farmers in Gunung Malang are inefficient in the use of production inputs. Farmers need to decrease manure usage, TSP fertilizer, and outside labor for technical efficiency. Factors that are affecting the technical efficiency are formal education level, number of household member and farmer association membership.

Abstract

A gap between national beef consumption and beef production becomes an opportunity for beef cattle fattening business. The purpose of this research is to analyze the feasibility of beef cattle fattening. The research was conducted at the main office of PT Catur Mitra Taruma at South Jakarta and its feedlot stall at Desa Cariu, Kabupaten Bogor. Aqualitative analysis method was used to analyze the non-financial feasibility, that covered market aspects, technical aspects, management and law aspects, and also social, economic, and environmental aspects. The financial feasibility was analyzed quantitatively by  investment criteria and switching value analysis. The result shows that beef cattle fattening in PT Catur Mitra Taruma is feasibleand it is more sensitive to the decreasing sales of beef cattle than to the increasing price of feed.

Abstract

Pineapple is one of the commodities that make a significant contribution to the Gross National Product (GDP) Indonesian horticulture. South Sumatra is one of the provinces that have a high volume of pineapple production. Pineapple production center is located in Ogan Ilir regency. There are problems in the marketing of pineapples that affect farmers income. The problem is the high margin difference between farmers and consumers. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze marketing system of pineapples in Paya Besar sub regency. This study used structural approach, conduct approach and market performance. Based on the analysis, there are three channels of pineapple marketing in Paya Besar sub regency. Every channel has different marketing areas. The third channel is more efficient than the other channels. These channel involves farmers, traders village, local wholesalers, and foreign wholesalers. The third channel has the smallest margin, the largest farmers share and the most equitable spread of benefit cost ratio. In addition, sales volume pineapple third channel is the highest volume and most widely used by farmers.

Abstract

Indonesia and Malaysia are the major exporters of palm oil in South East Asia. South East Asia Regional Trade Agreement can affect worldwide trade flow of palm oil. The objective of this study is to examine the effect of the Regional Trade Agreement on the trade flows of Indonesian and Malaysian palm oil. The effect is analyzed with gravity model.  The result shows positive dynamic effect of Free Trade Agreement to palm oil trade flow. Regional Trade Agreement has higher impact to Malaysia than Indonesia due to dissimilar government policies.

Abstract

This study aimed to analize the marketing institution, market structure and marketing efficiency of local and imported durio in pasar induk kramat jati. Marketing institution analysis covered marketing channel and marketing function analysis, while operational efficiency was measured by margin analysis and benefit-cost ratio analysis. A snowball sampling that was started from a fruit stall in pasar kramat jati revealed that the local durio comes from Palembang, Lampung, and Bengkulu, while the imported durio was imported from Thàiland by the importeer in Tanjung Priok. Both local durioand imported durio was distributed to the consumer by the fruit wholeseller and retailer. The exchanging function, physical function and facilitating function are done by all of the durio marketing institution. The durio market structure is vary, perfect competition market, oligopoly and monopolistic market for local durio and oligopoly, monopoly and monopolistic for imported durio. Although the marketing efficiency of local and imported durio quite the same due to the similarity of its benefit-cost ratio, but the local durio cannot beat the imported durio in term of its quality.

Abstract

KUD Puspa Mekar is cooperation which has core business development specifically for dairy cow farm. Aim of this study wasto determine the general of KUD Puspa Mekar, identifying some factors which affected performance of cooperation, participation of members, and benefits for members also analyzing the relation among each factors toward performance of cooperation, participation of members, and benefits for members of KUD Puspa Mekar. Method of the research was Path Analysis, with these following exogen variables: vision (X1), capacity (X2), networking (X3), and resources (X4) of cooperation. Endogen variables which were measured such as performance of cooperation (Y1), participation of members (Y2), social (Y3) and economic (Y4) benefits. Factors affected the performance of cooperatives in order are vision, resources, participation, networking and capacity. Factors affected the participation of members was social benefits. The economic benefits less influance the participation of members. Performance of coopertives influance the social and economic benefits. KUD Puspa Mekar should keep more capital from internal rather than external. KUD Puspa Mekar should increase stimulus incentives to members through increase membership benefits. Increase the participation of members in terms of economic benefits can be enhanced by building the business unit in accordance with the expectations of members and build the business unit independently. KUD Puspa Mekar should improve and maintain the performance of cooperatives to social and economic benefits received by members will increase. Abstract

Seaweed is one of the strategic commodities with the highest production volume in Indonesian aqua culture commodities. According to The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, production volume of seaweed had grown at 18,18 percents in 2010.  For the export markets, the volume and the value of this commodity was also increase at 54,87 percents. The differences between the seaweed’s price at its sea farm and the seaweed’s price at export markets indicate a high margin in the marketing system of seaweed.  South Kuta District is one of the seaweed farming center that located in Badung Region, Bali Province. This research is used to analyze the marketing system and the efficiency of seaweed marketing system in South Kuta District. The respondents in this research are all of seaweed farmers and institutional marketing systems which involved in the distribution, such as: assemblers, agent middlemen and exporters. The marketing margin approach, the farmer’s share approach and the ratio of benefit and marketing cost approach are used to measure the efficiency of marketing system. The participation of farmer groups affects the price of seaweed and supports the quality control of standardization for export markets. The recommendation of this research is to increase the efficiency of seaweed marketing system by decreasing the water content of seaweed.

Abstract

Kemangi is one of indigenous plants that is widely consumed in West Java. It is planted by most farmers in Ciaruteun Ilir, which is the centre of its plantations in Bogor region. The main objective of this study was to analyse the production factors of kemangi in Ciaruteun Ilir. Thirty one respondents were needed in this study, using the method of Purposive Sampling. The production factors were analysed using Maximum Likelihood methods in Cobb-Douglas model. Based on the level of significance 5%, the results showed that seeds, Urea, labours, and land size significantly affected the production.

Abstract

Agribusiness Development Center (ADC) is farmers support institution to produce and distribute top grade horticulture products. The purpose of this study is to formulate strategic planning for ADC. The methods used are internal and external factors analysis, IE matrix, SWOT and QSPM. The result shows five strategies prioritized as follows: expanding Greater Jakarta market, increasing organic products yield, collaborating with research institutes, increasing promotion and adding new distribution channels.
