Abstract

Supply Chain Management (SCM) forces business practitioners to focus more on ultimate consumers’ needs. The purpose of this study was to examine the management issues against the six key principles of supply chain management (SCM). Electronic mails and phone interviews with management of PT Saung Mirwan were used to collect primary data about the dimensions of supply chains associated with the six key principles of SCM. This paper shows that the firm has tried to apply the six key principles of SCM although for several aspects the realization was still ineffective and inefficient. Perhaps main limitation of this was its narrow focus on one agribusiness company, thus precluding the generalization of findings to other sectors. Moreover, this study did not involve the company’s partners directly to result in the more accurate data. The findings reinforce the important of developing and maintaining closer relationship with chain’s partners in response to the change in business environments and serving better their end users.

Abstract

Supply chain management has been a popular issues and an interesting discussion topic. It can be seen that many research has been done by academia, researcher, practitioners and policy makers through scientific publication, scientific meeting, and professional development program and course development in university. However, within the SCM studies there is a great diversity of concept and definitions of what constitutes a SCM. This paper is based on literature review with highlited the important to build and develop sustainable SCM. This paper discuss the driving forces of SCM, the concepts and theories related to SCM, the framework to develop SCM, the dimension of SCM and its implications to develop agribusiness in Indonesia.

Abstract

Smart postharvest technology in the form of Controlled Atmosphere Storage (CAS) is needed to increase the shelf life of shallot.  However, the application of CAS requires high investment costs related to the initial setup such as land, warehouse, CAS, and CAS supporting equipment. Thus, it is necessary to analyze the benefits and costs for farmers' welfare reflected by adding the amount of farming margin and income from other sources considering the time adjustment. This study aims to build a dynamic model for the application of CAS technology in shallot farming and evaluate its costs and benefits for farmers' welfare. The method used is the integration of cost and benefit analysis into a dynamic system model. The results showed that shallot farmers’ income is very sensitive to price changes and increasing storage costs. Hence, adopting CAS technology could mitigate some of these effects by reducing post-harvest losses and allowing farmers to store their production in favorable situations. Moreover, the CAS model showed that in the management level, CAS could be feasible (in terms of NPV, IRR, and Net B/C), if the storage cost is at least IDR 2.000/kg. According to the minimum profit limit for farmers, the maximum storage cost is IDR 1.500/kg, which makes the CAS unfeasible to run. The successful adoption of CAS is contingent upon substantial financial support from both private-sector investors and government entities. Therefore, the CAS technology is more appropriate for adoption by stakeholders in the food industry who require a consistent year-round supply of shallots.

Abstract

The transformational era has given rise to a new generation that is presumed to have different preferences than the previous generation. The proliferation of coffee shops has expanded consumer alternatives for purchasing decisions. This research aims to identify and segment Millennial and Zoomer consumers based on demographic, behavioral, and psychographic characteristics in the purchase of coffee beverages at coffee shops. The research employed a non-probability sampling method, specifically judgmental sampling, with a sample size of 180 coffee shop consumers in Madiun City. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent sample t-tests, and K-means clustering. The research findings indicate that millennials and Zoomer consumers tend to be dominated by females, mostly visiting once a week for leisure and prioritizing taste quality. There are significant differences between Millennial and Zoomer consumers in terms of promotional media attributes, WiFi/power outlet availability, live music entertainment, ordering process, and payment options. Based on consumer segmentation analysis, three segments were identified: coffee enthusiasts, adventurous coffee connoisseurs, and consumers who prioritize coffee beverage quality. The managerial implications for coffee shops involve directing marketing strategies specifically towards the adventurous taste segment and emphasizing quality by prioritizing innovation and differentiation in serving high-quality coffee beverages.

Abstract

Smart farming technology has been developed with Agriculture 4.0 to improve productivity and yield quality and solve challenges such as climate change, labor shortage due to regeneration difficulties, and resource efficiency. The objectives of this study were to analyze (1) the characteristics of farmers and chili production using smart fertigation and (2) the cost structure, revenue, profit, and efficiency. The study used primary data from interviews with 83 farmers in Central and East Java. Analytical methods included descriptive statistics, Cobb-Douglas production functions, and R/C. The results showed that smart fertigation farmers, who represented 2% of the total, had higher education (17 years), longer training (124 days), and significant participation in farmer groups (100%). The role of smart fertigation in chili production is to increase productivity (from 8.35 t/ha to 20.67 t/ha), reduce fertilizer use (from 26.730 t/ha to 8.540 t/ha) and reduce labor requirements from 748.17 HOK/ha to 609.33 HOK/ha. Despite the higher farm costs/ha with smart fertigation, the higher total revenue (due to increased productivity and selling price) results in higher profit and efficiency (R/C). Keywords: smart fertigation, chili farming, adoption decisions, cost savings

Abstract

Natural silk is an agribusiness activity that consists of a whole series of interconnected and interrelated upstream to downstream sub-systems. The government has intensified the natural silk development policy program in South Sulawesi Province through the regional superior industrial development plan. As a form of superior industrial development as stipulated in the 2018-2038 South Sulawesi Provincial Industrial Development Plan, the involvement of several stakeholders. This research aims to find out all stakeholders involved in policy-making and decision-making in the agricultural and industrial sectors, which are directly related to the development of natural silk agribusiness in South Sulawesi Province. This research was located in South Sulawesi Province, with a regional focus on Soppeng Regency and Wajo Regency, and was carried out for three months, namely February – April 2024. The data obtained was analyzed using the analytical method stakeholder, which was done to interpret interest and influence. Twenty-four stakeholders are involved in developing natural silk agribusiness in South Sulawesi Province. Mapping stakeholders based on importance and influence makes eight stakeholders in quadrants subject (high interest but low influence), five stakeholders in quadrants as key players (high influence and high importance), ten stakeholders in quadrants context setter (high influence but low interest), and one stakeholder in quadrants crowd (low influence and low interest). Stakeholders must coordinate and synergize effectively, establishing good cooperation for the continued development of natural silk agribusiness in South Sulawesi Province in the future. The relationships between stakeholders in the natural silk development policy program in South Sulawesi Province consist of (1) communication, (2) coordination, and (3) cooperation.

Abstract

Despite the potential to grow and earn more profit through export, the seaweed sector is dealing with several difficulties, including challenges in the production faced by smallholder farmers. Farmers have managed their seaweed farming by implementing several risk management practices. This study examined the effect of farmers’ risk management practices on seaweed production and the determinants of seaweed production risk management practices. This study utilized data from a survey of 100 farmers in Takalar Regency, a key seaweed production area in Indonesia, along with insights from a focus group discussion (FGD) with seaweed experts. A Cobb-Douglas production function and logistic regression were employed. The findings unveiled that seaweed farmers’ risk management practices had positively boosted their seaweed production. The findings also highlighted that such factors as education level, farming experience, farm size, and weather risk influenced the farmers’ practices of dealing with the production risk. Understanding the effect of risk management practices on farm production and the determinants of production risk management practices could assist policymakers in designing effective policies and farmers in being more innovative in their coping strategies to mitigate production risk, leading to improved productivity and income. The prioritized risk management practices for seaweed production focused on diversifying planting locations and harvesting under hot temperatures to mitigate production risks. In contrast, practices such as changing seeds, relocating, and adjusting cultivation methods were also crucial but less widely applied.
