Abstract

The research aims to study the interaction of several doses of potassium fertilizer and compost mixture of oil palm empty fruit bunches with boiler ash on growth and yield of onion. The research has been carried out experimentally in the form of Randomized Completely Design Factorial 3 × 4. The first factor is the potassium fertilizer consist of three levels and the second factor is the compost mixture of oil palm empty fruit bunches with boiler ash consist of four levels. Observation made were plants height, number of tubers, diameter of tubers and fresh weight of tuber per clumps sample and yield of tubers per plot. Data analyzed by ANOVA and further tested using by Duncan`s New Multiple Range Test (DNMRT) at the level of 5%. The results showed the application of  potassium fertilizer and compost mixture of oil palm empty fruit bunches with boiler ash significantly affect on the diameter of tuber per clump samples and yield of tubers per plot but not significant for other observations. Application of 60 kg K2O/ha with a mixture of compost oil palm empty fruit bunches and boiler ash 7,5 + 0,25 tons/ha a good dose of the growth and yield of onion.

Abstract

The study was carried out at the Laboratory of Plant Biotechnology Faculty of Agriculture, University of islam Riau Pekanbaru. The timing of the study during the three months from October to December 2013. The design used in this study is the factorial experiment in completely randomized design (CRD), which consists of two factors and three replications. The first factor is the provision of Myoinositol: A0 (0 mg/l), A1 (25 m/l), A2 (50 mg/l), and A3 (75 mg/l).While the second factoris the provision of active charcoal: B0 (0 g/l), B1 (1 g/l), B2 (2 g/l), and B3 (3 g/l). From the results of this study concluded that the provision of various concentration of Myoinositol treatment singely provide significant effect on all parameters of the observations with the best treatment A2 (50 mg/l Myoinositol administration) that age emerged shoots (20,25days), sum up shoot (2,11 fruit) shoot height (2,32 cm), sum up roots (3,00 fruit) and weight wet roots (26,39 mg). Treatment provision of various consentrations of active charcoal.Singely provide significant effect on all parameters of the observations with the best treatment B2 (1 g/l active charcoal administration) that age emerged shoots (23,92 days), sum up shoot (2,06 fruit)shoot height (2,01 cm), sum up roots (2,67 fruit)and weight wet roots (25,59 mg). Interactions are granting various concentrations of Myoinositol and active charcoal provide significant effect of the parameters of the observation age emerged shoots with the best treatment in the combination treatment A2B0 (16,33 days), and weight wet roots with the best treatment A2B0 (47,47 mg) Myoinositol, Arang Aktif, Anggrek.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to know the density and distribution pattern of E. longifolia in the Alaman Kuyang zone of the forest reserve of Kenegerian Rumbio. The research used purposive sampling method. The observation plot is made in square plot  which plot size was 20 x50 m.  Results of this study showed that density  of E. longifolia in Alaman Kuyang zone of forest reserve of Kenegarian Rumbio was 130 individual ha-1, which seedling phase is more dominance than  sapling and pole phases. The density of E.longifolia was low due to increasing the harvesting of this species from forest reserve of Kenegarian Rumbio, and addition poor of mother trees in area study. Distribution pattern of E. longifolia were clumped with Morisita Index value > 1, this could be explained since seed of E. longifolia dispersed and grew not far from mother trees.

Abstract

Rice as a staple food source of Indonesian people is still a top priority. However, efforts to increase rice production faced a variety of problems such as a decrease in the productivity of paddy fields due to the lack of organic matter. In addition to rice, meat is quite important food. To fulfill the need of domestic meat portion should be imported. This is an opportunity for the development of cattle breeding business in Indonesia. Crop Livestock Systems Integration (CLS) is one alternative in increasing the production of rice, meat, and dairy while improving the welfare of farmers and ranchers. There are three main technology components CLS namely: 1). Rice cultivation technology, 2). Livestock farming technology, and 3). Straw and compost processing technology. Technology components that can be integrated synergistically, then CLS development done by the institutional approach. CLS program aims to optimize the utilization of local resources such as the use of straw as livestock feed and cow manure can be processed into organic fertilizer that is very helpful to improve the nutrients that plants need so no waste is wasted (Zero waste). Utilization of cow manure was processed into liquid and solid organic fertilizer, is expected to serve as a source of additional income for farmers. Compost and liquid fertilizer and is expected to improve the fertility of agricultural land. CLS program was initiated in conjunction with a program of integrated crop management (ICM). In addition, the development of farming systems approach CLS needs to be done through farmer groups to facilitate agricultural extension, livestock grains technology adoption, and government aid channel. The advantage of the rice-livestock integration pattern that is the utilization of crop residues as a source of animal feed, utilizing livestock manure as fertilizer, creating new jobs in rural areas, and increase community participation in creating a competitive agribusiness, environmental friendly and independent. CLS constraints in achieving food security among farmers groups working mechanism was not going well, utilization of collective cages was not optimal, mentoring and coaching process was not effective because the cattle were scattered locations, the use of manure has not been entrenched among rice farmers, and the application of CLS conducted throughout provinces in Indonesia and there was no apparent progress. Repair CLS for the future should focus on the region so that large-scale production centers and significant impact on population growth and productivity of livestock. Livestock waste treatment close to the location of the rice to minimize transport costs so as to create zero waste and integrated farming systems to achieve food sovereignty.

Abstract

This study was conducted from March to September 2013 at the Islamic State University of Syarif Kasim Sultan Riau and analysis of the chemical properties of compost made in BPTP Riau. This study aims to determine the dose and the duration of fermentation EM4 right to obtain compost oil palm empty fruit bunches with the best chemical properties. Oil palm empty fruit bunches are used are taken from PTPN V Lubuk Dalam and mixed with manure from cattle feces with ratio of 4:1. The method used was descriptive quantitative method consisting of 12 combinations of treatment and 1 control. The parameters measured were the content of N, P, K, C-Organic and pH. The results of this study indicated that EM4 and long curing compost may improve the chemical properties of oil palm empty fruit bunches, which the administration of 20 mL / L EM4 and curing 10 weeks old that A3B4 sample produces the best chemical properties. The content of N, P, K, and pH of the sample A3B4 respectively: 6,79%, 3,04%, 8,08%, and 9,93 %.

Abstract

This research aims to know (1)  labor absorption of oil palm farmers; and (2) the productivity of oil palm farmers, (3) farmer perception, and (4) the palm plantation contribution to the regional income. The research was conducted in September 2013 until November 2013. Location of research in sub-districts of North Tambusai, Kunto Darussalam, Tandun, and Kabun in Rokan Hulu District. The method used interviews, questionnaires, and documentation. Sampling was done by purposive. Results of this research is the most of labor absorption in sub-district Kabun (4.22 HOK / ha), followed by North Tambusai (3.30 HOK / Ha), Kunto Darussalam (3.21 HOK / ha), and Tandun (2.99 HOK / Ha). The highest productivity of palm oil in sub-district Kabun (21.16 ton/ha/ year), followed by Kunto Darussalam (19.40 ton/ha/year), North Tambusai (15.76 ton/ha/ear), and Tandun (11,97 ton/ha/year). The most reason of farmers perception on palm plantation is marketing easier, followed by production facilities are supported, easy palm cultivation, the selling price and the income of farmers is high. The most farmers perception to use the income is education of children, followed by repair and extension the house, purchase of motor vehicles, and extend of palm plantations. The largest palm plantation contribution to the regional income is North Tambusai Sub-Distric, followed by Kunto Darussalam, Kabun, and Tandun.

Abstract

Mustard is one of the horticultural crops that have commercial value and nutritious. The research was done in September to December 2013 in Faculty of Agriculture and Animal Sciences Experimental Garden, State Islamic University of Sultan Syarif Kasim Riau. This research was carried out to study the doses of market waste bokashi, planting period and the interaction both of them to planting mustard plants in verticulture system. Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with five replications was used. Treatments involved two factors, i.e. market waste bokashi doses (0, 150, 300, 450 and 600 g per gutters) and planting period (first and second). Observations were done on six morpho-agronomic characteristics, i.e. plant height, number of leaves, leaf length, leaf width, canopy wet weight and canopy dry weight. The results showed that the giving of bokashi 300 g/gutters in the first planting period gives the best results on plant height (28,88 cm), number of leaves (8,28 strands), leaf length (16,30 cm), leaf width (12,93 cm) and canopy wet weight (37,98 g). Bokashi 600 g per gutters on the second planting period gave similar results by using bokashi 300 g per gutters in the first planting period.

Abstract

Watermelon is a horticulture plant that much like by the general people. The sweet taste and high water content of watermelon often used as a food or beverage that is refreshing. The watermelon consumption produces waste including peel of watermelon. And the peel of watermelon contains a lot of useful components including pectin. Pectin is a polysaccharide compound that consist of galacturonate acid molecules. Pectin is widely used as a functional component in the food, pharmaceutical industries, feed industry. Pectin is usually extracted by strong mineral acids. The use of mineral acids can be dangerous if the pectin is processed into food and can cause environmental problems. This study aims to utilize waste as an alternative source of watermelon peel pectin extracted enzymatically by Aspergillus niger. In this research, there are some of procedure namely the enzyme production of  Aspergillus niger, pectinase enzyme extraction, hydrolysis enzymatically pectin and pectin powder manufacturing process consisting of coagulation, sedimentation, drying to obtain dry pectin. The results showed that pectin in this research namely low metoxyl pectin 6.24%, yield 15.26 %, moisture content 11.46 %, ash content 4.8 %, equivalent weight 789 mg, galacturonate content 57.72 % and degree of esterification 61.33 %.

Abstract

This research has been conducted on January until February 2015 at Agrostologi laboratory, industrial feed and soil science laboratory, in State Islamic University Sultan Syarif Kasim Riau. The purposed of the research was to determine the effect of bunch ash, boiler ash, and palm oil sludge with different doses of the red-yellow podsolic fertility. The research used random sampling method that consist of (1). Red-yellow podzolic soil with a bunch ash as much as 5 ton/ha (25 g), 10 ton/ha (50 g), 15 ton/ha (75 g). (2). Red-yellow podzolic soil with boiler ash as much as 5 ton/ha (25 g), 10 ton/ha (75 g), 15 ton/ha (75 g). (3). Red-yellow podzolic soil with sludge as much as 5 ton/ha (25 g), 10 ton/ha (50 g), 15 ton/ha (75 g). Total of treatment were 20 pollybag. Parameters observation consist of value pH H2O, N, P, K. The results showed that bunch ash doses of 15 ton/ha was the best material to improvement of soil chemical properties red-yellow podzolic (pH H2O, P and K), subsequently followed by boiler ash, but a decline N of giving bunch ash and boiler ash while sludge doses 15 ton/ha is the best material to improvement of soil chemical properties N.

Abstract

Physic nut is one of potential plant which produces biofuel. The presence of biofuel from physic nut is being expected could reduces the using of crude oil. It is important to do an intensive breeding program either convensionally or molecular based to improve new varieties of physic nut. DNA isolation is one of important step in molecular based activity. Physic nut has high latex content which makes isolation process become so difficult. The aim of this study is to find the technique of DNA isolation which can reduces the contaminants. There are two washing techniques that being used in this study, three times and five times washing. There are also two kinds of ascorbic acid which being used in this study, laboratory grade and 500 mg tablet vitamin C. The results showed that isolated DNA has a good of quality and quantity. The banding pattern of amplification clearly visible under UV light. The result showed that washing buffer three times is enough to produce good stock DNA. Besides, 500 mg tablet vitamin C can be used as a substitute for pure ascorbic acid in the process of DNA isolation when the pure ascorbic acid is not available in the laboratory.
