Abstract

The patriarchal system is one of the problems in gender studies that is still described in the era of digital literature. Digital literature has a dynamic characteristic, which makes film categorized as a literary work by focusing on the story narrative. One of the films that contains the issue of patriarchy is Tim Burton's Big Eyes. This study aims to describe the patriarchal structure in digital literature using a qualitative descriptive method and Silvia Walby's feminist approach. The results of the research show that the six structures of the patriarchal system are related to each other but are centered on one main structure, Culture. As a digital literary work, the film Big Eyes also represents the resistance of the main female character, which can illustrate how the feminist movement is and how women should be able to fight against all forms of oppression caused by the patriarchal system.  Sistem patriarki menjadi salah satu permasalahan dalam kajian gender yang masih tergambar di era sastra digital. Sastra digital mempunyai sifat dinamis yang menjadikan film dikategorikan sebagai karya sastra dengan menitik beratkan pada narasi cerita. Salah satu film yang memuat isu patriarki adalah Big Eyes karya Tim Burton. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan struktur patriarki dalam sastra digital dengan menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif dan pendekatan feminis Silvia Walby. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa keenam struktur sistem patriarki saling berkaitan satu sama lain namun berpusat pada satu struktur utama yaitu Kebudayaan (Culture). Sebagai sebuah karya sastra digital, film Big Eyes juga merepresentasikan perlawanan dari tokoh utama perempuan, yang dapat menggambarkan bagaimana gerakan feminisme dan bagaimana perempuan harus mampu melawan segala bentuk penindasan yang diakibatkan oleh sistem patriarki.

Abstract

The novel "Gadis Tangsi" by Suparto Brata serves as the object of research discussing the restriction of women's sexuality through the institution of marriage. In this novel, women's mobility is deliberately limited and created to uphold male dominance. Feminist groups argue that literature effectively portrays and disseminates patriarchal ideologies, with literary interpretations predominantly influenced by the male perspective. Therefore, the "reading as a woman" approach is necessary to deconstruct readings centered on the male view of male-female relationships, particularly within the context of marriage. Through this approach, readers will encounter concrete depictions of women's actual conditions and gain an understanding of their bodily experiences. Ultimately, women who engage in this type of reading will be able to liberate themselves from the constraints that restrict their creativity and transform the existing patriarchal system. Novel “Gadis Tangsi” karya Suparto Brata dijadikan sebagai objek penelitian yang membahas tentang pembatasan seksualitas perempuan melalui institusi perkawinan. Dalam novel ini, mobilitas perempuan sengaja dibatasi dan diciptakan untuk menjunjung dominasi laki-laki. Kelompok feminis berpendapat bahwa sastra secara efektif menggambarkan dan menyebarkan ideologi patriarki, dengan interpretasi sastra yang sebagian besar dipengaruhi oleh perspektif laki-laki. Oleh karena itu, pendekatan “membaca sebagai perempuan” diperlukan untuk mendekonstruksi bacaan yang berpusat pada pandangan laki-laki terhadap hubungan laki-laki dan perempuan, khususnya dalam konteks perkawinan. Melalui pendekatan ini, pembaca akan menemukan gambaran konkrit mengenai kondisi aktual perempuan dan mendapatkan pemahaman tentang pengalaman tubuhnya. Pada akhirnya, perempuan yang terlibat dalam jenis membaca ini akan mampu membebaskan diri dari kendala yang membatasi kreativitas mereka dan mengubah sistem patriarki yang ada.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the structure and moral values in the folklore Origin of Sendang Sani. Structural analysis using the theory of Alan Dundes. Analysis of moral values uses the types of moral values in literary works according to Nurgiyantoro. The research method uses descriptive qualitative. Data collection was carried out through observation, interviews, documentation, recording, and transcription of the results of the interviews. The validity of the data is done by triangulation of sources, techniques, and time. Data analysis techniques use the Miles and Huberman models. The results of the study show that the story of the Origin of Sendang Sani has a structure of a combination of six motifs and is categorized as a folk tale with a very complex structure. As for the moral values contained, namely the value of the human relationship with himself includes (1) trying hard and (2) being honest, the value of human relations with the social and natural spheres includes (1) devotion and (2) friendship ties, the value of human relations with God includes ( 1) performing worship, (2) being patient, and (3) regretting and asking forgiveness for the sins that have been committed. Keywords:Folklore, Moral Values, Structural Analysis

Abstract

Mass media is a tool for conveying information, thoughts, and ideas to a wide audience. The information conveyed varies, including news about celebrities' lives in Indonesia. Through critical discourse analysis, it is possible to discover the ideologies present in the news coverage across various media outlets. The purpose of this research is to determine the critical discourse analysis of news articles about the arrest of the Indonesian artist Nikita Mirzani, as published by four online media outlets: Detik.com, Liputan6.com, Tempo.com, and Tribunnews.com. A descriptive method is employed, and the findings are presented qualitatively, using a critical thinking framework and perspective for this study. The theoretical framework employed in this research is Norman Fairclough's three-dimensional model, which consists of microstructural, mesostructural, and macrostructural dimensions. The analysis techniques employed are observation and note-taking. The research process is divided into three stages: data collection, data classification, and data analysis. The data analyzed in this study include the titles and content of news articles regarding the arrest of Indonesian celebrity Nikita Mirzani, as published by the four online media outlets. The results of this research indicate that there are differences in the content of celebrity news articles across the four online media outlets, Detik.com, Liputan6.com, Tempo.com, and Tribunnews.com. Each media outlet presents the same news topic with different framing, according to their respective motivations and ideals.Media massa merupakan alat untuk menyampaikan informasi, pemikiran, dan gagasan kepada khalayak luas. Informasi yang disampaikan beragam, termasuk berita seputar kehidupan selebritis di Indonesia. Melalui analisis wacana kritis, kita dapat mengetahui ideologi-ideologi yang ada dalam pemberitaan di berbagai media. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui analisis wacana kritis artikel berita tentang penangkapan artis Indonesia Nikita Mirzani yang dimuat empat media online: Detik.com, Liputan6.com, Tempo.com, dan Tribunnews.com. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode deskriptif dan temuan-temuan yang diperoleh disajikan secara kualitatif dengan menggunakan kerangka berpikir kritis dan perspektif dalam penelitian ini. Kerangka teori yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah model tiga dimensi Norman Fairclough yang terdiri dari dimensi mikrostruktur, mesostruktur, dan makrostruktur. Teknik analisis yang digunakan adalah observasi dan pencatatan. Proses penelitian dibagi menjadi tiga tahap: pengumpulan data, klasifikasi data, dan analisis data. Data yang dianalisis dalam penelitian ini meliputi judul dan isi artikel berita mengenai penangkapan selebriti Tanah Air Nikita Mirzani yang dimuat oleh empat media online. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan isi artikel berita selebriti di empat media online Detik.com, Liputan6.com, Tempo.com, dan Tribunnews.com. Masing-masing media menyajikan topik pemberitaan yang sama dengan framing yang berbeda-beda, sesuai dengan motivasi dan cita-citanya masing-masing.
