As a form of oral literature, Syair is formed by the presence of formulas and formulaic that build the story in the poem. This study aims to find formulas and formulaic that build the theme of Syair Sultan Abdul Muluk from the province of Riau, Indonesia. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative method and formula theory proposed by Albert B. Lord. The results showed that there were formulas and formulaic expression in the form of character names, place names, scenes, and times. However, in the time section it is found that time is described in a non-specific manner. This is due to differences in culture or character of the place and its people. The formulas and formulaic expression build the theme of the story, which is leadership. In addition, the results of the study also show that the style of language used as a storyteller is the language style commonly used in old poem, which is rhyming and containing metaphorical figures of speech.

Abstract

This paper discusses how the identity of a group of students from the Indonesian Literature Study Program at Andalas University, Padang, is constructed through drinking coffee in a coffee shop. Drinking coffee is one activity that is being loved by young people, especially amidst the massive emergence of coffee shops in various parts of the city of Padang. The number of coffee shops in the city of Padang influences the people's culture of drinking coffee. According to Baudrillard's theory of hyperreality, drinking coffee does not only contain use and exchange values, but also contains sign and symbolic values. The activity of drinking coffee is not just quenching thirst and delaying sleepiness, but is also done for the purpose of having fun and strengthening identity. In addition, there is an act of looking at each other and being seen between male students and female students in their behavior drinking coffee in coffee shops. Through filling out a questionnaire conducted by a group of students, it was shown that visiting coffee shops did not necessarily give rise to coffee connoisseurs, but rather as a form of lifestyle for early subjects and popular cultural practices, visiting coffee shops was shown as a fun activity, as well as strengthening one's identity in the world. virtual and real world.

Abstract

The patriarchal system is one of the problems in gender studies that is still described in the era of digital literature. Digital literature has a dynamic characteristic, which makes film categorized as a literary work by focusing on the story narrative. One of the films that contains the issue of patriarchy is Tim Burton's Big Eyes. This study aims to describe the patriarchal structure in digital literature using a qualitative descriptive method and Silvia Walby's feminist approach. The results of the research show that the six structures of the patriarchal system are related to each other but are centered on one main structure, Culture. As a digital literary work, the film Big Eyes also represents the resistance of the main female character, which can illustrate how the feminist movement is and how women should be able to fight against all forms of oppression caused by the patriarchal system.

Abstract

Foreign languages in Indonesia are often taught as supporting subjects, with English being the most common. German has also been introduced in some schools, including SMA YARI Padang. However, German lessons at this school have been discontinued over the last two years due to a lack of teaching staff. This study examined the use of German children's literature to enhance foreign language literacy and character development. A case study approach involved storytelling, interactive quizzes, observation, and mentoring. The storybook Ginting und Ganteng was chosen as a learning material because it was enjoyable and engaging for students to read and learn from. The results showed that children's literature helped students remember basic German vocabulary, learn new words in context, and better understand the story that was read. Furthermore, the story encouraged students to reflect on positive values such as honesty, kindness, and respect. These findings suggest that children's literature can be an effective medium for learning German while supporting character education. This study demonstrates that literary texts can offer meaningful language learning experiences, even in schools with limited resources.
