Abstract

The learning process is a process that contains reciprocal relationships between teachers and students, which takes place in an educational situation to achieve a particular goal. This interaction or mutual relationship between teachers and students is a key requirement for the process. What we are seeing in schools, teachers are too active in the learning process, while students are made passive, so the interaction between teachers and students in the learning process is not effective. To create effective mathematics learning requires appropriate learning models to solve and solve problems related to mathematics learning. Problem solving is one of the goals of learning mathematics. Learning math so that it can stimulate the development of ability. One strategy that can be used to create effective learning and. Abstract

The aims of this study are to determine the improvement of critical thinking skills mathematical and metacognition of students who are taught with problem solving approach and the correlation between mathematical critical thinking and metacognition of students. This research is an experimental research with pretest-posttest control group design. The sample this research is the students of class VIII_2 and VIII_3 in SMP Negeri 1 Banda Aceh. Collecting data technique are test and nontest. Data were analyzed using t-test and correlation test. The result of the research shows 1) the critical thinking ability of the students who get the learning through problem solving approach is better than the students who get the conventional learning, 2) Metacognition of students who get the learning by using problem solving approach is better than the students who get the conventional learning, 3) a positive and significant relationship between students' metacognition and critical thinking skills.

Abstract

ABSTRACTAs an effort to achieve meaningfulness in the research process conducted by students, it requires a student ability covering ability compile to with refer to the question to be researched, formulating statistical hypothesis, solving, and interpreting problems which is relied by existing context, this ability is known as statistical literacy. The purpose of this study is to describe and assess the ability of statistical literacy. By knowing the ability of statistical literacy early on in the first semester, it will be able to be developed furthermore realization of subject circumstances under study in further statistics. The method used in this research is qualitative method with type of research strategy of case study. The subjects of the study are students majoring in mathematics education semester I in the basic statistics courses of the academic year 2016/2017. Research instrument that is researcher as main instrument, and statistic literacy test. The result of the research is 35% of students are in the high statistic literacy ability category, 13% of students are in the medium category, and 52% of students are in the low category, with different achievement in each capability category viewed from three indicators of statistical literacy ability. They are Formulating problems ability; Using concepts ability, facts, procedures and reasoning; Interpreting problems solving ability. Keywords: Statistical literacy ability, student of mathematics education

Abstract

This research is motivated by the ability of Habits of mind that is very supportive of the learner's appearance in everyday life. Habits of mind is the root of the students' strength in exercising their ability to determine solutions in a problems. Classroom is a condition or environment they occupy as they study. Therefore, teachers really should be able to see the habits of the student's mind when the learning process occurs and teachers have a minimal important role to remind students of the importance of the habits of mind, so they are helped in completing various tasks, especially in mathematics. Habits of mind (HOM) is a tendency to behave intellectually or intelligently when faced with problems, especially problems that are not immediately known to the solution. HOM there are 16 indicators and in this study the researchers gave a HOM questionnaire to 78 students with the results of research that there are 13 students included in the high category, 56 students who are in the medium category and 9 students in the low category.

Abstract

This research aims to develop an open ended domica-based cards in improving creative thinking ability of elementary school students on the material fractions and find out the results of its development. The development was done by using Plomp model which consists of: (1) the initial Investigation, (2) design, (3) the realization/construction, (4) the testing, evaluation, and revision, (5) implementation. The research subjects at the the testing, evaluation, and revision phase is 38 6th grade students of SDN Kenongo 1 Tulangan Sidoarjo. While in the implementation phase, the ubject is 40 6th grade students SDN Kalitengah 1 Tanggulangin Sidoarjo. Data collection techniques use creative thinking tests, observation of students' creative thinking activities, questionnaires, and documentations. The results concluded that the open ended domica-based card to enhance the creativity of elementary school students produced two sets of cards in the material of common fraction and mixed fractions, as well as a set of cards consisting of whole fractions sub material (regular, percent, and decimal fractions), each of which contains 66 cards. Domica-based card open ended trial results good quality because it has met the criteria of validity, practicality, and effectiveness to train the creativity of students in the aspect of flexibility, elaboration, and novelty.

Abstract

This paper consists of Research and Development that focus on making  and building  some programs for mathematics education especially discusses invers of matrix. Invers of matrix in Senior High School was introduced in 3rd class and just explained matrix 2x2 and 3x3 . However, it is not an easy matter/thing to determine invers of matrix  because there are some steps that make some students confused and found some difficulties to do it. Therefore, the researcher offers the following steps: First find determinant of matrix, second matrix cofactor and then transpose matrix cofactor become adjoin of matrix, finally multiply adjoin of matrix with determinant. From those steps, sometimes students miss it, so in this paper we will discuss the development of education software (prototype) to compute and determine invers of some matrix. Research and development methodology is applied in this research. Abstract

In mathematics, matrices have many uses, they are finding solutions of a linear equation system, looking for specific solutions of differential equations, determining state classification on Markov chains, and so on. There is a special matrix in matrix theory, that is a diagonal matrix. The diagonal matrix is a matrix whose all non-diagonal entries are primarily zero so that the product of the diagonal matrix can be computed by considering only the components along the main diagonal. A square matrix can sometimes be formed into a diagonal matrix. If a non-diagonal square matrix A can be conjugated with a diagonal matrix, then there is an invertible matrix P so PAP-1=D, where D is a diagonal matrix and P is said to diagonalize A. To find a square matrix diagonalizable or not, many researchers usually use eigenvalues and eigenvectors evaluation. In this study, we discuss that the other way to form a diagonal matrix by using Minimum Polynomial Algorithm.

Abstract

This study aims to know the extent to which the use of Matlab simulation media based conceptual Interactive can overcome the difficulties of students in understanding the Linear Equation System in the course of Numerical Analysis and improve student understanding. This study is a classroom action research, which is carried out in two cycles. Research subjects as many as 25 students grade 7C Prodi Mathematics Education University PGRI Madiun academic year 2016/2017. Research instruments are researchers, learning observation sheets, concept comprehension tests, student response questionnaires and interview guides. Based on the result of the research, it can be concluded that the application of Matlab simulation media based on conceptual interactive in learning can increase the students understanding on Linear Equation System. This is shown by the improvement of students' ability in understanding the system of linear equations in each cycle. The data is also supported by a positive response given by students in learning.

Abstract

This research and development aimed to develop module with an open ended approach to facilitate the achievement of mathematical literacy. This study was conducted only until the  field trial and the revision of product. The module was validated by experts with attention to aspects: matter, appearance, and practicality. Having been declared valid by experts, the test readability by the students was done. Based on the steps, it was obtained (1) the use of the module with an open ended approach in Linier Programmingwas expected by the students, (2) the module characteristics were in accordance with the curriculum and designed in accordance with the open-ended approach, (3) the experts responses to the module were appropriate in terms of aspects of matter, appearance, and practicality and (4) the students responses were good viewed by readability.

Abstract

The interested thing to study on the teaching and learning strategies in elementary school is the understanding of the development of the learners at once the uniqueness that is required the teachers on identifying suitable actions (behavior in children) as a goal that can be achieved in the teaching, the activities and the learning experiences for certain age groups, and the evaluation system to be used. Therefore, this reason become strong in order to the teaching system that was developed by the teacher is expected to be increasingly able to serve the requirements of the individual learner (individually guided education) and the teaching become interested and meaningful for children. Moreover, the purpose of this study to describe the use of numbers board media. It is used to improve the learning outcomes of the mathematics subject which calculate the Additional Operation and Integer Reduction material, especially at remote rural schools. In addition, the purpose is to determine the extent of the effectiveness of the use of numbers board media to improve the mathematics achievement which calculates the Additional Operation and Integer Reduction material in class IV SDN Bektiharjo VI Kecamatan Semanding. The data that used were obtained from the test results and observations of the students in the process of the teaching and learning by the number of 24 children. The result of this study that was obtained by the observation from the teacher to the students on the learning process has increased in each cycle. In the first cycle of the observation has the total score is 52 and it has increased on the second cycle which has the total score is 69. Furthermore, the result of the students’ mathematic subject which the school standard value of SDN Genaharjo VI is 70 was also increased from the first cycle of the total value in 1650 with an average of 68.7 and the second cycle of the total value in 2030 with an average of 84.5.
