Abstract

Abstract This study aimed to find out the effectiveness of the Preview, Question, Read, Reflect, Recite, Review (PQ4R) learning method in terms of students' understanding of mathematical concepts. The population of this study was all seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 20 Bandarlampung in the even semester of the academic year of 2018/2019 as many as 346 students that distributed into eleven classes. The sample was taken randomly one class of the eleven classes as the study sample. This study used the one-group pretest-posttest design. The research data was obtained through a essay test of the quadrilateral and triangle. Data analysis of this research used paired t-test. The results showed that students' undestanding of mathematical concepts after taking the PQ4R learning method was higher than students' understanding of mathematical concepts before taking the PQ4R learning method, but the percentage of students who had a good understanding of the mathematical concepts was not more than 60% of the number of students who took PQ4R learning. Thus, PQ4R method was not effective in terms of students' understanding of mathematical concepts.

Abstract

This research and development aimed to develop module with an open ended approach to facilitate the achievement of mathematical literacy. This study was conducted only until the  field trial and the revision of product. The module was validated by experts with attention to aspects: matter, appearance, and practicality. Having been declared valid by experts, the test readability by the students was done. Based on the steps, it was obtained (1) the use of the module with an open ended approach in Linier Programmingwas expected by the students, (2) the module characteristics were in accordance with the curriculum and designed in accordance with the open-ended approach, (3) the experts responses to the module were appropriate in terms of aspects of matter, appearance, and practicality and (4) the students responses were good viewed by readability.

Abstract

This qualitative descriptive study was conducted with the aim of describing students' mathematical anxiety levels in participating in online learning compared to offline learning. The subjects of this study were taken using purposive by involving students of the Mathematics Education, FKIP Universitas Lampung, even semesters in the academic year of 2019/2020. Data were collected through mathematical anxiety scale and interview guidelines. The data analysis of this research includes data reduction, data presentation, conclusion drawing and verification. Based on the results of research and discussion, it is concluded that (1) the level of mathematical anxiety of students who take online learning is higher than offline learning, (2) on the cognitive and affective aspects, the level of mathematical anxiety of students who take online learning is higher than offline learning. On the physiological aspect, the level of mathematical anxiety of students taking offline learning is higher than online learning. The results of this research become input in designing learning that is able to minimize students' mathematical anxiety in participating in online learning.

Abstract

Until now, there have been many studies conducted on mathematical reflective thinking skills presented using problem-based learning models. This study aims to analyze published research on the effectiveness of problem-based learning models on mathematical reflective thinking skills. The method used is meta-analysis. The data analyzed were 8 journal articles that were used to determine the effect size. Data collection was carried out using a variable coding sheet as a coding instrument. The collected data were then analyzed using meta-analytic statistical techniques. The results of the analysis showed that the average effect size of the 8 articles was 2.63, which was included in the high effect size category. Of the 8 articles analyzed, 6 articles (75%) showed a high effect size category, while 2 articles (25%) showed a medium effect size category. The article with the highest effect size, which reached 5.29, shows that the problem-based learning model can provide a very significant increase in students' mathematical reflective thinking skills in learning mathematics.
