Abstract

This paper evalutes the determination of competitive products implemented by localgovernment. We use the five aspects of business feasibility and the Revealed ComparativeAdvantages (RCA) analysis. The five aspects include marketing, financial, technique andproduction, management and legal, and social and environmental aspects. The RCAmesures comparative advantages of a product in a region in compare to its competitorwithin the same province. The paper found the competitive product selection implementedby the local government are not always inline with the five aspects of business feasibilityand the RCA. The use of the 5 aspects can help the banking sector to finance thecompetitive products and the use of the RCA can increase the possibility of the sector tohelp solving the local economic problems. Keywords: Komoditi Unggulan, RCA, MFEP, Location Quotion, Jawa Tengah

Abstract

There are 3 selected villages being studied located in Kecamatan Sirahpu laupadang, Kabupaten Ogan Komring Ilir. The inequality of income distribu tion is relatively large. The change of income and neighbor’s consumption behavior bring about a significant effect on consumption pattern and level of consumption of a household living adjacent to each other. In addition, there is stability of household or family’s consumtion pattern and level of con sumption. The people’s income level in the three selected villages is deter mined by rice which in turn heavily depends on season, the price of dried rice, and monetary uncertainty. The change of income influence the pattern and level of consumption of the people inderectly in the three villages, and it is not followed by the change of the consumption pattern. Keywords: distribution of income, level of consumption, consumption pattern, elasticity of demand.

Abstract

This research aims to examine the effect of relational constructs (trust, affectivecommitment, calculative commitment, satisfaction, and payment equity) on customerreferral and number of service purchased with age of relationship as moderating variable. The data were collected with convenience sample from 181 (response rate 90,5%)customers of insurance companies in Special Province of Yogyakarta. In line with thecharacteristics of customers of the company, the individuals in the sample could bedescribed as productive age, rather prosperous and well educated. The averagerelationship age of the respondents was approximately 4,49 years, while the averagenumber of services purchased was approximately 1,49.All hypotheses were tested with hierarchical regression analysis (HRA). The results onthe antecedents of customer referrals are in line with prior research, as author find thattrust, affective commitment, satisfaction, and payment equity are positively related tocustomer referrals. We found significant relationship only the relational construct ofaffective commitment and the number services purchased. No moderating effect of relationship age is found in the customer referral model. Withrespect to the number of services purchased, a moderating effect of relationship age on the effect of affective commitment is found. There is argument about the discrepancy between the customer referral model and the number of services purchased model with regard to the moderating effect of relationship age. This increasing confidence is indeed important it concerns decisions that have important consequences, such as the purchase of new insurance policies. However, it might be less important when behavior has fever direct consequences for the customer, such as customer referral. Keywords: relational constructs, customer referral, number of service purchased, andrelational age

Abstract

This paper examines the linkage between cross-functional teamwork and project management performance. The main thrust of the study is continuing debates on how cross-functional teamwork contributes to project management performance: on-time, on-budget, and on-purpose. The level of influence was observed based on six critical factors: the clarity of super-ordinate goals, conformity of project team members to organization rules and procedures, physical proximity of each project team members, accessibility of project team members, knowledge sharing amongst project team members, and fairness of selection process of the project team members. The study uses combination of survey and case studies approach to answer such complex question. Samples were driven from 44 healthcare projects under the coordination of Health Department in East Java involving 88 respondents in the study. The hierarchical regression analysis was then used to explain major antecedents of cross-functional teamwork on the performance of project management. The study concludes that successful project management accounts multi-dimensional issues. The clarity of super-ordinate goals and physical proximity of team members have positive and significant influence in the performance of cross-functional teamwork. These invite further research to improve generalizability of the study. Keywords: project management, performance, cross-functional teamwork.

Abstract

The research aims at examining market reaction to CEO turnover announcements. The samples of the research consist of 59 CEO turnover announcements during 1992-2003periods. The author use security returns variance to examine information content of CEOturnover announcement. Friedman and Singh (1989) argue that contextual factorsmoderating the market reaction to the CEO turnover announcements. Therefore the authorconsidering two factors: the succession process and the origin of incoming CEO. The authordivide sample based on the succession process: routine and non-routine, and the origin ofincoming CEO: inside and outside firm. In the analyses process we observe market reactionto: (1) all sample of CEO turnover announcement, (2) routine CEO turnover, (3) non-routineCEO turnover, (4) inside CEO turnover, (5) outside CEO turnover, (6) routine inside CEOturnover, (7) routine outside CEO turnover, (8) non-routine inside turnover, (9) non-routineoutside turnover. The results from security return variance test shows that there areindifference variance returns to all sample, routine turnover, nonroutine turnover, insideCEO, outside CEO. When the author combines the contextual factor, he find market alsodoes not reacts to: (1) non-routine process turnover and incoming CEO come from insideand (2) routine process turnover and incoming CEO comes from outside. But, there areinformation content from: (1) routine process turnover and incoming CEO comes from insideand (2) non-routine process turnover and incoming CEO comes from outside. These resultshows that market react to smooth process succession (routine inside CEO turnover) becauseit can reduce uncertainty and incoming CEO tend to follow previous CEO strategy. Ifsuccession process is non-routine market prefer to candidate from outside because he willbring a different strategy. Keywords: CEO turnover, inside and outside CEO, routine, nonroutine

Abstract

Indonesian economic crisis, emerged since 1997, has been an agony carrier for the entire Indonesian economy. Was that statement correct? A field trip to rural areas of an Indonesian Economy Class at the Faculty of Economics Gadjah Mada University, carried out on 25 October 2000, intended to further discover the truth or the flaw of the statement. The study trip was a direct observation of the life and interview of the people in Purwoharjo and Gerbosari. Major concern was the impact of the monetary crisis, known as “krismon”, to Poor and Non Poor villagers. The filled questionaires analysed by crosstabulation method is presented below. Six hypotheses analyzed. The dependent variable is the impact of the monetary crisis experienced by the respondents. The acceptance of most of the null hypotheses suggests that there is no implication of various independent variables such as income groupings and poverty line to dependent variable, that is the impact of the monetary crisis to the life of the rural population. Keywords: poor and non poor villages, social safety net, poverty, income groupings.

Abstract

Internet technology has accelerated the development of communities from face-to-face into computer-mediated communications. Individuals who joined the virtual communities contributed greatly to building their knowledge by sharing their experiences. This study investigates the individuals’ knowledge sharing intentions using two approaches for the research model. The first approach is adopted from Hung & Cheng’s (2013) model that incorporates technology readiness, compatibility and acceptance. The second approach is a new model built specifically for this study which combines the social presence and compatibility into the technology acceptance. Furthermore, this study compared both models to identify their ability to explain the individuals’ knowledge sharing intentions. This study’s results show that the first model is not better than the second. In the first model, the technology readiness, as represented only by the innovative, is the only one having a positive effect on the technology acceptance. Meanwhile, the three other constructs, i.e. optimism, discomfort, and insecurity are not. In the second model, the social presence and compatibility that are integrated into the Technology Acceptance Model could actually positively affect the technology acceptance. In the technology readiness model, the ease of the technology is not the indicator which assesses the usefulness of the technology. Meanwhile, in the social presence model, the ease of use affects the usefulness of the technology. Furthermore, both in the technology readiness and social presence models, the perceived usefulness and ease of use affect the knowledge sharing intentions. The study finds that the social presence is able to explain the knowledge sharingintentions better than the technology readiness does. It implies practically that virtual community providers should make individuals be more active in their virtual communities. Then, the providers could facilitate the improvement of the individuals’ cognitive capabilities and competencies with their high motivation for knowledge sharing. Keywords: technology readiness, social presence, communications medium, compatibility, virtual community, online learning
