Abstract

There is an empirical argument that Physiotherapists have a moral and professional obligation to move away from assessment and treatment methods based on anecdotal testimonies or opinion and upgrade their method of practice to Evidence-Based Practice in order to remain alive in the era of scientific research. It is essential to evaluate the quality of service being delivered by referral hospitals. This study aimed to establish linkages of knowledge and awareness of evidence-based practice in selected hospitals of Lusaka and the service quality at the physiotherapy outpatient departments. This study employed a descriptive cross-sectional study. The study was based on primary data collected through a standardized SERVQUAL tool measuring the mean expectations and perception of performance for the quality of physiotherapy care. A total of 75 respondents including both physiotherapists and patients contributed to the study. Limited utilization of EBP practice was seen with only 3(5.1%) participants always and 26(4.1%) mostly reading research to guide the clinical decision. 18(31%) and 14(24.1%) respectively strongly agreed or agreed that the insufficiency of basic EBP skills was the primary barrier to the application of EBP in clinical practice. A negative mean gap score was observed across all five dimensions of the SERVQUAL tool for patients. Despite Physiotherapists in Lusaka being knowledgeable of evidence-based practice, negative gaps in quality of care being offered still persist, an indication that there is a needs to improve on patients' satisfaction with the services being provided.

Abstract

This research aims to examine the effectiveness of play therapy to minimizing hyperactive behavior of mild intellectual disabilities student in 1st grade at SLB C Setya Darma Surakarta academic year of 2018/2019. The method for this research is using single subject research with particular intervention. The research was using A-B-A design, with first baseline as the original, then intervene the subject, and finally implemented the result to the second baseline afterward. Research subject in this study was a mild intellectual disabilities student who have hyperactive behavior in 1st grade at SLB C Setya Darma Surakarta academic year of 2018/2019. Data collection technique in this research was using observation and interview. This research was analysed with descriptive statistics and visual graph analysis technique. The result showed that there was a reduction to hyperactive behaviour. The average frequency in student's hyperactive behaviour at the first time was 34 times with duration of 20 minutes in 30 minutes lesson. Thereafter, the reduction was showed in the intervene stage to 28.5 with duration of 15 minutes in 30 minutes lesson. Whereas in the second baseline, the average frequency was 18.75 with duration of 10 minutes in 30 minutes lesson. Based on research result, it can be concluded that play therapy is effective in minimizing the behavior of mild intellectual disabilities student in 1st grade at SLB C Setya Darma Surakarta Academic Year of 2018/2019.

Abstract

Distance education is an organized educational process that bridges the separation between students and educators mediated by the use of technology and minimal face-to-face meetings. Distance education evolved from correspondent education to education through e-learning across time and space. Currently, in Indonesia, even in all countries in the world there is an outbreak of Covid-19 which results in learning in the field of education having to change from face-to-face learning to distance learning. The purpose of this study was to determine how the effect of distance learning for children with special needs in inclusive schools in the new era of normality. The method used in this research is qualitative research with online interview data collection techniques, documentation, and literature studies related to children with special needs during the COVID 19 pandemic. Qualitative data analysis was carried out through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, concluding, and verification. Based on the purposive random sampling technique, this study involved 15 informants consisting of classroom teachers and Special Advisors from 12 inclusive schools in all districts in the Special Region of Yogyakarta. The results of the study revealed that distance learning which is applied in inclusive elementary schools in Yogyakarta is learning that is carried out online by utilizing various learning media both using the internet network and not Course materials are distributed online, communicated also carried out online, and all forms of examinations are also carried out online. The result of implementing distance learning in inclusive elementary schools is that learning the Indonesian language that is carried out remotely has a positive effect in the form of increased mastery of reading, listening, writing, and speaking competencies for children with special needs during the Covid-19 pandemic. The learning component that has the most influence is the selection of the learning media used. The more interactive the media used, the more effective the learning outcomes obtained by students. Even though online learning also encountered some obstacles, teachers continued to strive to improve the effectiveness of distance learning for children with special needs by collaborating with parents or guardians of students.

Abstract

Adherence to treatment appointments by mothers of children with Cerebral Palsy is one of the factors affected in rehabilitation of a child with Cerebral Palsy, and this is cardinal to ensure effective rehabilitation outcomes for the child. Hence this study aimed to explore the factors influencing poor adherence to physiotherapy appointments by mothers of children with Cerebral Palsy at Chilenje Hospital, in Lusaka. A qualitative case study design utilising a phenomenological approach was conducted with a sample of 12 mothers of children with Cerebral palsy from Chilenje Hospital, Lusaka. Convenient sampling was utilized where mothers who were non-adhering were also purposefully selected into the study to better understand the factors affecting adherence to physiotherapy. The factors that contributed to caregivers defaulting scheduled therapy included economic constraints like unemployment and low education level, caregiver related factors such as marital challenges, and service centered factors such as challenges with the diagnosis of Cerebral Palsy and negative clinician attitudes. Majority of the caregivers admitted that they were motivated to attend therapy by observable improvements in their children. A combination of psychosocial, economic, child centered and service centered factors contributed to caregivers defaulting scheduled therapy. Interventions that may potentially improve caregiver attendance to scheduled therapy include community outreach services, efficient rehabilitation service provision at the hospitals, and facilitation of income generating programmes for mothers and caregivers.

Abstract

This descriptive qualitative study aims to explore the main physical and social barriers to accessibility of religious sites, services, and activities for people with physical disabilities in Indonesia and subsequently aims to explore possibilities to enhance their religious participation. A total of 28 interviewees participated in this research i.e., 16 self-indicated as Muslims and 12 as Christians. Among the male participants (n=16) were 10 Muslims and 6 Catholics, and among the female participants (n=12) were 6 Muslims and 6 Christians. Interviews and physical audits suggest serious need for improvements in accessibility and accommodation going to and within the establishment. Although majority of disabled persons interviewed for this study regularly participate in religious activities, they also notice that their basic needs and concerns are not being treated as priorities. Discourse on disability issues should be initiated and developed to create inclusive religious atmosphere.

Abstract

The Law on persons with disabilities is an aspiration and hope in achieving equality, equal rights and opportunities for persons with disabilities in Indonesia. The implementation of this law is currently not well implemented and has not succeeded in creating equality, equal rights and opportunities for persons with disabilities in their social life. Persons with disabilities still experience various difficulties in their social life and their rights are often neglected. The method used in writing this article is a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. The data collection technique is done by studying the literature. This article is intended to provide an overview of the implementation of the law on persons with disabilities in Indonesia and provide an overview of the situation of persons with disabilities after the law was passed.

Abstract

In the era of the Covid-19 pandemic, the government implemented a distance learning system for students at all levels of education. This has an impact on various changes in learning methods, including for the subjects of Physical Education, Sports, and Health. The importance of learning sports during the pandemic is the right of every student, including students with special needs. In fact, children who need special services are often excluded from teaching and learning activities in physical education. So adaptive physical education is needed so that it can serve the learning needs of blind students and lead students to achieve excellent health. To overcome the persistence of the above problem, the authors implemented an adaptive physical education program aimed at blind students at Junior High School Modern Islamic School (SMP MIS) Surakarta. The main program is train students to do an adaptive rhythmic gymnastics. This program consisting of Ayo Pahami (Lets Understand), Ayo Praktikkan (Lets Practice), and Ayo Lanjutkan (Lets Continue) carried out online through the WhatsApp Group. In general, this program implementation activities can run well. This is evidenced by the results of written test and also performance test. Quantitatively, the average students score is 60 while the average teachers score is 84 for the written test, and the average students score for performance test is 71,2 which is considered as skilled. Qualitatively, all students understand and can memorize the whole movements of the rhythmic gymnastics. Habituation and parental/teacher guidance is needed to boost students' ability in practicing the movements so that their motor skills can improve progressively. We also arrange ETAS organizational structure that aims to encourage students to continue their rhythmic gymnastics habits and is expected new extracurricular in the future.

Abstract

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a complex intellectual and developmental disability clinically diagnosed when s/he is 2 or three years old. These children demand special care to meet their special needs to enable optimized potentials in their development. This qualitative study aims at understanding the stressors affecting the quality of life of the primary care-giver. Parenting for children with ASD is usually more complicated and demanding than for children without disabilities. Four case studies were selected to represent typical mothers of ASD children in different phases of development. Their ages ranged from 29-50 years old and the ages of their children were 6 to 22 years old. Research credibility is constructed through interviews with significant others and observation of social media activities. The instrument for the study is WHO-QoL-BREF which is adjusted for an interview protocol. The results indicated that mothers who were not supported by their spouse and family members often had to deal with the uncertain future alone. Those who felt accomplished in caring for their children were strengthened by the parenting experiences. Support from professionals is crucial for mothers in addition to support from significant others and peers, in maintaining their quality of life.

Abstract

As a basis for parenting, communication can change patterns of interaction in the family. This study examines how computer-mediated communication (CMC) is related to and influences family communication (including conversation and conformity) in adolescents with disabilities. Participants in this study were 100 adolescents with deafness scattered in Indonesia. Through ANOVA analysis, the results show that CMC is significantly positively related to the conversation, conformity, and interaction between the two. Regression analysis found all four CMC factors as significant predictors affecting 50.4% in the climate of family communication among deaf teenagers. The findings in this study produce an empirical explanation of the CMC motive as a factor in family communication in deaf teens. Suggestions and research for the future are discussed.

Abstract

This study aims to find out the relationship of prosocial behavior with the intensity of teacher social interaction towards children with special needs in inclusion schools in Surakarta. The method used in this research is quantitative correlational method. The sampling method is to use purposive sampling method, with a research subject of 30 teachers of inclusion school class in Surakarta. Data collection techniques in this study used questionnaires with the scale of prosocial behavior and social interaction. The result of data analysis using Pearson Correlation Product Moment technique with the help of SPSS 23.0 program obtained correlation of r= 0.919, (p>0.05), thus means Ha rejected and Ho accepted, so it can be concluded that; 1) There is no significant link between prosocial behaviour and the intensity of teacher social interaction towards children with special needs in inclusion schools, 2) The embodiment of prosocial behavior also does not have to give rise to interactions between teachers and students with special needs but a teacher tends to give indirect assistance to students, and 3) The development of increasingly sophisticated technology makes a person, especially children with special needs less social and reduce their social attitudes. So it tends to do things based on its own interests
