Little effort is made to ensure that people are deaf are covered in these NCDs awareness programs. Hence this study aimed at assessing the NCDs awareness among people who are deaf in Zambia, particularly assessing the knowledge of NCDs risk factors, diagnosis and treatment. The study utilized a phenomenological study type with were 10 participants who were purposively sampled. 5 males and 5 females were chosen, 2 from Grade ten, 4 from Grade eleven and 4 from Grade twelve. These were chosen because of their ability to adequately read and understand English language. The study highlighted that among the many factors, the major factors were identified as; lack of communication between the health personnel and the deaf person (pupil), attitude (stigma) of the health personnel towards the person who are deaf (pupil), lack of health education in the school curriculum and lack of specific information on NCDs. Other identified factors were lack of regular health campaign within the school premises, lack of health materials on NCDs and poor organization of physical education.some issues such as lack of communication between the health personnel and them, the attitude of the health personnel, lack of health education in the school curriculum and lack of specific information on NCDs were found to be the major cause of low awareness among the target

Abstract

This study aimed to improve student competence in conducting identification and assessment of children with special needs. The subjects of this study were the 4th semester students of FKIP UNS PLB in Orthopedagogic subjects with emotional and behavioural obstacles. There were 35 students in total. The method used in this study was qualitative comparative. The data was collected by filling out the self-evaluation instrument about the students' understanding of identification and assessment material in the pre-test and post-test. The data obtained were then analysed in a qualitative descriptive way. Assessment includes seven aspects, namely (1) understanding of identification, (2) understanding of assessment, (3) differences of identification and assessment, (4) importance of identification and assessment of children with special needs, (5) ways of identifying and assessment, (6) implementation of identification and assessment of children with special needs, (7) identification with the Decision Support System. Based on the results obtained by the data that the seven aspects have an increase in student understanding of identification and assessment, so it can be concluded that there is an increase in student competence in the identification and assessment of children with special needs through the use of the Decision Support System (DSS) application.

Abstract

The background of research is low acceptance problem of the presence of students with disabilities caused by the lack of disability awareness in every student that arises due to low social contact. The lack of acceptance can be seen from the reactions of other students when learning. The problem will be very clear when there is of work groups learning, it is very rarely condition, there are other students who immediately propose themselves in one group with him. In addition, there is lacking of support for "AH" when he gets difficulties. On the other hand "AH" has a lack of self-esteem, insecure, easy to give up, and despair with activities related to the obstacles they experience. Based on the problems that arise in the inclusion class, the researchers therefore provide a model of equality dynamic learning to solve existing problems. The equality dynamic learning model conceptualizes "dynamic learning that creates equal rights in learning", it means that learning activities are designed in such a way that takes into account the diversity that is owned by students (students with special and regular needs) and accommodates all these needs in learning activities so that all students in the class have meaningful learning. The subjects in this study were 19 students, 1 student with special needs with physical disabilities, a18 normal students. The research methodology in this study is a quasi-experimental design with one group pretest-posttest without control class. The results of the study showed that the condition of pretest disability awareness of students in the moderate category was 63%, the high category was 37%. The condition of posttest of disability awareness for high category students was 16%, very high category was 84%. The disability awareness condition experienced a significant increase after the dynamic learning equality model was given to students in the inclusive class. Wilcoxon calculations were performed with the result that in the asymp sig (2-tailed) column to be tested 2 sides were 0,000. Because the case is a one-tailed test, the probability becomes 0,000 / 2 = 0,000. Here the probability is below 0.05 So, based on the results of this study, the equality dynamic learning model is effective in increasing the disability awareness of students in inclusive classes.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to identify the main risk factors associated with severe malnutrition in children with CP. An unmatched case control study was used to compare 33 children with CP presenting with severe malnutrition (WAZ ≤ -3 SD) against 66 non malnourished CP children (WAZ ≥ -2SD) at the University Teaching Hospital in Lusaka. Risk factors for severe malnutrition in children with CP were determined with bivariate and multiple logistic regression. A p-value of < 0.05 was considered significant at 95% confidence interval. After adjusting for other variables, factors that remained statistically significant (p-value < 0.05) included the following: use of  unflushed pit latrine toilet (p=0.0119); bilateral CP (p=0.0054); GMFCS level 4 or 5 (p=0.0001); history of illness in the past six months (p=0.0241); swallowing difficulties (p=0.0006); tonic bite (p= 0.0011no weight gain in the past 2 to 3 months (p=0.0001); dependent on feeding (p=0.0061); feeds only on semisolids or liquids (p=0.0231); taking more than 30 minutes feeding (p=0.0381); fed for ≤ 3 times/day (0.0025); child opening bowels after 3 or more days (0.0057); caregiver concerned about child's feeding difficulties (p=0.0076); not likely to be fed Irish potatoes (p=0.0008) and Fish (p=0.0001). The risk factors identified in the current study are related to the child's severity and feeding difficulties including caregiver caring practices.

Abstract

Over the years, they have been suggestions that people with disabilities face barriers when accessing health care services unlike their abled counter-parts. However, information regarding the nature of these barriers, especially for those in low income and middle income countries is not abundant and very sparse. signing of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities on May 3, 2008 is one of the most important disability actions taken to date which marked national recognition of the rights for persons with disabilities, of which included access. The studies explored in this article review issues related to access to health care and those mostly used in areas within the Sub-Saharan as their sample site. The following document contains published studies that determine if disability limits access to health care and to attempt to identify what contextual factors (environmental and personal factors), interact with to limit this access. The findings were that people with disability who came from rural areas did find it harder to access healthcare than their urban counterparts. The major reason behind this is transportation from home to the health facility. A number of other reasons were also considered, such as no services were available.
