Abstract

One of the most important sectors in Wajo Regency, South Sulawesi is the fisheries sector. This sector contributes to regional income, food security, and job creation. Lake Tempe has several problems such as conflicts between fishermen, unrestricted access to new technology, inadequate management of fisheries resources, uncontrolled fishing, and traditional community-based fisheries management. Co-management is carried out to organize activities in fisheries management. For this reason, it is necessary to strengthen institutions in managing the use of fishery resources and developing networks between fishing communities. This research was conducted using a structured questionnaire to identify and integrate the co-management model in Lake Tempe. There are relevant findings regarding this research, some of which are: (1) Goals, (2) Targets, and (3) Strategies, namely infrastructure strategy, banking services, coordination between authorities, organizational structure, cooperation, formation of cooperatives, training programs, and utilizing local wisdom. Natural resource management is a form of adaptive management, co-management, and change governance. Stakeholder involvement in improving conservation management and taking socio-economic aspects of the characteristics of the Tempe Lake area is an important element in efforts to design and implement co-management in fisheries resource management.

Abstract

Ecotourism's dependence on climate resources makes it one of the industries considered to be the most vulnerable. This study aims to analyze the socio-economic conditions of vulnerability and resilience of coastal and marine natural resources related to ecotourism development. Data analysis used descriptive qualitative analysis to identify perceptions of disaster characteristics and impacts and climate variability, as well as quantitative descriptive analysis to calculate changes in the household income of the Tamban Beach community and the level of resilience and vulnerability using the Livelihood Vulnerability Index (LVI) method. The results show that the highest value of the main component is the ecology of 0.880, so it becomes the most vulnerable component. The factor with the highest value is the sensitivity, which is 0.475 and is the weakest. The LVI value in Tamban Beach is 0.311, indicating that community households in the area have a reasonably low vulnerability to coastal and marine resources in Tamban Beach. The household resilience level of the Tamban Beach community is mostly in the moderate category, as much as 45%. The Tamban Beach community needs to participate in seeking information on climate change actively weather forecasts together with related institutions.

Abstract

The hammerhead shark has high economic value, but its population is highly threatened due to its high exploitation. This study aims to calculate the level of preference of shark fishermen on the value of willingness to pay for the conservation of hammerhead shark resources. This research was conducted from November to December 2020 in Tanjung Luar Village, East Lombok Regency. The method used is observation and in-depth interviews with a sample of 150 shark fishermen. The analysis used is binary logit regression analysis using the R studio 4.1.2 tool. The results of this study indicate that (1) the total price of willingness to pay from all Tanjung Luar shark fishermen is IDR 9,654,000, and the average monthly value is IDR 53,633 per person; (2) factors that are quite influential on respondents' willingness to pay are age, education level, number of family members, and monthly income. The conservation of hammerhead shark resources needs to be considered because it has been included in the CITES Appendix II red list with a critically endangered status towards extinction. Suggestion there is a need for educational steps from various parties to fishermen regarding the importance of the existence of hammerhead sharks in the ecosystem so that they can reduce the high level of fishing activity in nature.

Abstract

People use fish to meet their needs. Fish utilization and economic activities in the neritic tuna’s fishery system at Pasongsongan were an effort to achieve social welfare. However, the uncertainty surrounding economic activities caused a risk to fishermen's income stability. Those are conducted in this research to identify the elements of social-ecological system of neritic tuna fisheries at Pasongsongan and to assess the risk based on the uncertainty of the daily fish prices. Identification of the elements of the social-ecological system followed the framework by Ostrom, while the uncertainty was analyzed by monte carlo simulation using R-Studio. The results showed six elements of Resource System, three elements of Resource Units, one element of the Governance System, and three elements of Resource Actors. The interaction between elements is fishing productivity and information exchange. The montecarlo simulation showed the fish price determination method contains uncertainty with a greater risk in the daily fish price of kawakawa or komo (Euthynnus affinis) compared to frigate tuna (Auxis thazard), with standard deviation values respectively IDR 8.255 and IDR 6.251. Fish measurement cause the uncertainty of daily fish prices without using validated measuring; therefore, fish weight measurement infrastructure needs to increase pricing considerations accuracy objectively.
