Abstract

This study assesses a learning management system (LMS) from the viewpoint of firstyear students, focusing on their level of acceptance toward LMS usage. Notably, 65.81% of respondents have been familiar with online learning platforms since junior high school, indicating a high degree of digital experience. During university orientation, students were introduced to the LMS through various learning activities, including campus introduction modules, online quizzes, and assignment submissions. To assess usability, data were gathered from 2,267 students who used a Likert scale to complete the System Usability Scale (SUS) questionnaire. Quantitative and descriptive analyses produced an overall SUS score of 57.57, placing the LMS within the Low Acceptance Range and corresponding to an interpretation scale of E and an “OK” adjective rating. These results suggest that, despite their digital familiarity, students found the LMS somewhat complicated and occasionally difficult to navigate. The findings highlight an urgent need for institutions to simplify learning instructions and integrate structured LMS usage guidelines into course syllabi to support students’ learning processes and reduce potential disengagement or dropout. Additionally, universities must strengthen outreach and training initiatives that enhance students’ comfort and confidence when using the LMS. LMS management in higher education essentially consists of two main aspects: ease of use and support for users, students, and faculty. This, in turn, will improve the quality of teaching and learning. Ultimately, well-managed LMS implementation will enable higher education institutions to adopt more progressive and effective hybrid learning models that align with the expectations and needs of today’s digitally oriented student generation.

Abstract

The rapid expansion of technology-enabled vocational education has increased reliance on digital access systems that regulate entry to learning platforms, simulations, and assessment environments. This study examines how security challenges in these systems affect learning continuity in vocational education and identifies factors that intensify disruption risks. A systematic review of peer-reviewed studies published between 2020 and 2025 was conducted using five academic databases, applying predefined inclusion criteria and synthesizing findings through descriptive and thematic analysis. Results show that weaknesses in data confidentiality, integrity, and especially system availability frequently interrupt instructional activities, particularly practice-based learning dependent on digital laboratories and assessment tools. Disruptions are often amplified by misalignment between technical infrastructure, user practices, and institutional governance, with institutions lacking governance capacity and user training facing higher risks of learning interruption. Although technical and administrative mitigation strategies exist, they are often implemented without sufficient alignment to pedagogical needs. The study concludes that digital access security should be treated not merely as a technical concern but as a prerequisite for equitable and resilient vocational learning, calling for integrated socio-technical and pedagogically informed security strategies.

Abstract

This study investigates the relationships among lexical features, semantic features, and readability using a corpus of 27,274 sentences extracted from Indonesian undergraduate academic abstracts. A quantitative descriptive-correlational design was employed, combining natural language processing (NLP)-based feature extraction with a regression-calibrated Indonesian adaptation of the Flesch readability formula. Pearson and Spearman correlation analyses were performed to examine associations among lexical density, lexical diversity, lexical bundles, semantic dimensions, and readability scores. The results show that semantic features consistently exhibit stronger relationships with readability than conventional lexical measures. Mean word concreteness exhibited the strongest positive correlation with readability (r = 0.424), whereas the abstractword ratio showed the strongest negative correlation (r = -0.407). In contrast, lexical density, lexical diversity, and lexical bundles displayed only negligible to weak correlations. These findings indicate that semantic clarity has a greater impact on the readability of Indonesian academic writing than lexical sophistication alone. Rather than emphasizing increasingly complex vocabulary, improving readability depends on communicating ideas through concrete and contextually meaningful language. Beyond extending Indonesian readability research, this study provides empirical evidence for the development of NLP-based readability assessment, intelligent academic writing assistance systems, and pedagogical practices that support clearer scholarly communication for national and international audiences.

Abstract

The book “How Water Makes Us Human” broadly argues that the human relationship with water is co-constitutive, in that humans not only utilize water but are also materially and existentially shaped alongside it. Through the framework of New Materialities (NM), Attala demonstrates that human life is embedded within a broader material network, where the substance of the world is not merely a passive backdrop but an element that actively enables and configures human existence. This book highlights how this liquid matter—water—functions as a connecting medium that physically and conceptually unites the human body with the rest of the material world. The New Materialities perspective, as developed by Bennett, Coole & Frost, as well as Drazin & Küchler, understands life as the result of mutually influencing material interactions. This approach seeks to transcend the boundaries of individual entities and examines how material relationships produce specific forms of existence. New Materialities acknowledges that social and ecological phenomena are always complex and influenced by various factors, yet this complexity is rooted in the dynamics of matter itself, not merely in political or economic structures. New Materialities emphasizes the co-generative nature of relationships or “becoming-with,” asserting that the outcomes of these relationships always depend on the physical properties and capabilities of the materials involved.

Abstract

The rapid growth of digital subscription services has normalized auto-renewal mechanisms, particularly among Generation Z. However, this convenience often leads to passive consumption and unintentional financial deductions. This study aims to analyze the practice of autorenewal in digital subscriptions among Gen Z from both socio-technological and Islamic legal (fiqh muamalah) perspectives. Employing a quantitative descriptive approach, data were collected from 50 Gen Z respondents in Bandung through questionnaires. The findings reveal a high subscription rate (74%), yet a significant disconnect exists: 40% of users infrequently utilize the services they continue paying for, and 24% are unaware of active autorenewals. From a socio-technological view, platforms exploit user inertia, leading to a "subscribe-andforget" culture. In Islamic law, specifically within the 'aqd al-ijarah (service contract) framework, this practice raises critical issues regarding the absence of continuous ridha (mutual consent) and the presence of gharar (uncertainty). Paying for unutilized services directly violates the principle of 'adl (fairness). Interestingly, while 46% perceive the system as functionally unfair, 62% still view it as legally permissible (Halal/Mubah). Academically, this research contributes to contemporary Islamic jurisprudence by conceptualizing "algorithmic gharar" and redefining ridha as a continuous, dynamic requirement in automated digital contracts. However, as an exploratory baseline, the generalizability of this study is limited by its small, localized urban sample of 50 respondents, necessitating broader national studies. The study concludes there is an urgent need for enhanced digital financial literacy and ethical, transparent subscription designs.
