Abstract

The rise of generative AI presents a dilemma due to the public’s pragmatic acceptance of AI-generated design works (M=5.33, SD=1.89), alluding to the possibility of creative labor displacement. Grounded in Christensen’s Innovator’s Dilemma and Mori’s Uncanny Valley, this study examines how the Indonesian public perceives the ethical and utilitarian tensions of AI adoption. Using a sequential explanatory mixed-methods approach, an online survey (n=553) was conducted with respondents aged 20 to 50 in 10 Indonesian cities. Participants evaluated four case studies—advertisement, book cover, Instagram post, and photo manipulation—alongside their general sentiments. Findings indicate lower acceptance of GenAI for commercial (M=4.78, SD=1.84) than for personal use (M=5.43, SD=1.58), and concerns about GenAI’s potential to replace designers (M=5.2, SD=1.70). The lowest receptivity was observed in video and photo manipulation, reflecting the uncanny valley effect. Meanwhile, respondents tend to justify the use of GenAI when there are no formal regulations, thereby diminishing their ethical concerns, while also exhibiting difficulties in identifying AI-generated images. These perceptions underscore the importance of AI governance in protecting human designers from being replaced by machines and ensuring the authenticity of design works.

Abstract

The increase in the electronic-based government system (SPBE) has increased by 4% throughout 2024 in Bogor City, showing the success of Bogor City's smart city in the aspect of e-goverment. On the other hand, Bogor City also has many awards. Therefore, this research will analyze the smart city strategy through e-government as an example of digital services. This research employs a qualitative method with a constructivist paradigm and a case study approach as proposed by Creswell. The case analyzed represents a positive example of how Bogor City has successfully implemented its smart city initiatives through the concept of e-governance. Data in this study were collected through in-depth interviews with six participants, consisting of three key informants, two supporting informants, and one expert informant. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis with the assistance of NVivo software to construct an understanding of Bogor City’s e-government strategies in enhancing the SPBE implementation. This study indicates that the Government of Bogor City has effective strategies like (1) strategic orientation and stakeholder mapping, (2) substantive policy underpinnings, and (3) symbolic action and hooked tagline. Implementation in Bogor smart city is (1) urban infrastructure and experiential signals, (2) strategic publicity and digital presence, and (3) public opinion and responsive governance.

Abstract

In virtual idol fandoms, fans often follow shared norms that shape how they interact with one another. This research draws on fandom, norms, and negotiation theories to explore how such norms emerge and are negotiated within the Plli fandom on social media X, focusing on the figure of “Terra Plave” as the controlling presence behind Plave’s virtual idol avatar. Based on data from phenomenological interviews with four Indonesian fans, the study identifies two central aspects of these norms: the types of accounts fans use and their responses to provocative posts and doxxing. The findings suggest that the norms surrounding Terra Plave reflect an ongoing process of negotiation among fans, aimed at resolving internal conflicts triggered by official statements from Plave’s label.

Abstract

This study explores the impact of Argument Mapping (AM) assisted by ChatGPT on students' ability to write scientific arguments. While AM has been shown to enhance argumentative skills, there is limited research on integrating generative technologies like ChatGPT into the AM model for writing instruction. This study examines ChatGPT's role in helping students in the Nursing and Primary School Teacher Education (PGSD) programs develop clearer and more logical argument structures. A mixed-methods explanatory sequential design was used, incorporating quantitative pre- and post-tests to measure improvements in argumentative writing and qualitative semi-structured interviews to gather students' perceptions. Results show that AM supported by ChatGPT significantly enhances students' argumentative writing skills, particularly in clarity and argument structure in depth. The findings suggest that ChatGPT aids writing and fosters critical thinking. However, ethical considerations, including plagiarism awareness, are important when using this technology. This study contributes to the literature by highlighting AI's potential to improve argumentative writing skills and promoting the integration of technology in education for developing critical thinking.

Abstract

This study investigates the multimodal representation in the Grade 10 Bahasa Indonesia textbook published under the Kurikulum Merdeka, focusing on how various semiotic modes verbal, visual, typographic, layout, and color are functionally integrated to support meaning-making and student comprehension. Employing a qualitative content analysis method, data were collected through document analysis and analyzed using a multimodal categorization instrument. This instrument classified modes by type, communicative function, and modal integration. The analysis involved identifying modes on selected pages, evaluating the communicative function of each mode, and interpreting the relationships among modes, categorized as complementary, redundant, dominant, or incoherent, to assess cohesion and pedagogical relevance. The results show that visual modes are the most dominant, with typographic and layout features providing emphasis and structural clarity. Complementary relations were most frequent, demonstrating a high degree of synergy between modes in conveying meaning. Instances of redundancy, dominance, or incoherence were minimal but signal areas for improvement. The study concludes that the textbook reflects a pedagogical shift toward multimodal literacy aligned with 21st-century competencies. Practically, the findings inform educators and textbook designers on how to optimize visual-verbal coordination, design layout more coherently, and utilize typography and color meaningfully to foster more inclusive, engaging, and effective language instruction.

Abstract

This study proposes a conceptual-analytical framework for human-centric AI integration in Industry 5.0 by employing a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) and Applied Framework Analysis (AFA). A structured PRISMA-based screening process was applied to ensure transparency in identifying and selecting 48 scholarly sources that inform the framework. The review reveals three foundational dimensions enabling responsible AI adoption: ethical governance grounded in transparency and accountability, inclusive innovation addressing bias and digital inequality, and futureready human capital oriented toward capability enhancement. These dimensions are synthesized into a sociotechnical framework that bridges normative humancentric principles with organizational practice. To demonstrate its analytical utility, the framework is applied to Gojek Indonesia as an illustrative case using publicly available secondary information, without claiming empirical verification or access to proprietary algorithmic processes. The analysis indicates partial alignment between Gojek’s documented initiatives and human-centric principles, particularly in interface transparency, communication design, and worker-support mechanisms, while also exposing persistent tensions related to power asymmetry and limited algorithmic visibility. The study concludes that although secondary evidence suggests opportunities for human-centric implementation, comprehensive evaluation requires multi-method empirical research capable of capturing lived experiences and internal decision-making structures.

Abstract

Preserving humor effects that arise from flouting conversational principles in culturespecific texts presents specific difficulties when translating regional languages deeply rooted in linguistic and cultural variation. This type of humor depends on complex linguistic, cultural, and situational contexts, resulting in difficulty in replicating the same effect in the target language. This study investigates humor translation strategies and translation quality of two advanced AI language models, i.e., ChatGPT 4.0 and Gemini 2.5, in rendering culture-specific humor that deliberately violates Grice’s maxims of cooperation and Leech’s politeness principles. The study focuses on translations from Sundanese into English using 20 humorous texts selected from Cangehgar, a well-known Sundanese humor anthology characterized by deliberate violations of conversational and politeness principles. Chiaro’s four-option humor translation framework is employed to identify the strategies used, while Larson’s scales of clarity, accuracy, and naturalness are applied to evaluate translation quality. A descriptive qualitative approach is adopted, in which the selected humorous texts were purposively sampled based on their clear instances of flouting conversational and politeness principles. The findings indicate that while both models employ distinct translation strategies, their effectiveness in preserving the humor’s original intent varies. ChatGPT establishes stronger capability in maintaining the structure and essence of humor in the punchlines, whereas Gemini’s adaptations tend to dilute the comedic impact. This study contributes to the growing academic discourse on AI’s role in humor translation and its broader implications for cross-cultural communication.

Abstract

The book "Music and Technoculture" (2003), a collective work edited by René T. A. Lysloff and Leslie C. Gay Jr., is not only an academic publication, but also a monumental milestone that fundamentally reconfigures our understanding of music within the contemporary cultural landscape. This collection of essays boldly advocates for a crucial paradigm shift, moving away from ethnomusicological views and traditional music studies that tend to regard music solely as an isolated “cultural expression.” Instead, Lysloff and Gay Jr., together with their contributors, propose a new framework: music as an entity embedded within a technocultural context. Overall, this book constructs a progressive narrative: from music as a cultural artifact to music as a social space shaped by technology. It positions technology as an agent that mediates not only sound, but also meaning, identity, and social relationships. In a broader context, Music and Technoculture serves as a bridge between music studies, media studies, and cultural theory. This idea has far-reaching implications for the world of contemporary art and culture. In artistic practice, for example, the concept of technoculture offers new insights into how artists interact with digital mediums to create innovative aesthetic forms. Meanwhile, in the context of popular culture, this book helps us understand how digital music, social media, and streaming platforms shape the ways society listens, creates, and interacts.
