It seeks to outline some of the approach’s key contributions, such as explanations of possible origins of narrative and adaptive functions of literature as well as novel ways of interpreting individual works. This piece of writing also explores the controversies surrounding the approach, namely the stance that the approach takes against the postmodernist establishment and the criticism it receives. Regarding both the main ideas and the controversies, this paper seeks to answer and whether or not this approach is useful or relevant at all in today’s modern world.

Jane Austen’s novels and clever heroines and romantic interests have been adapted into movies and television shows for decades. This study explores a literary adaptation of Jane Austen’s novel entitled Pride and Prejudice, published in1813. It was adapted to the screen by Joe Wright in 2005 and written by Deborah Moggach. We shall discuss how Joe Wright interpreted the setting and conflict. This research was conducted using the adaptation theory proposed by Linda Hutcheon. We argue that the movie interestingly altered the setting to show the characters’’ romantic scenes and the major characters’ social economy level. The movie provides its audience transposition of major external and internal conflicts among the major characters. The movie has minimized the issues of social condition status and women’s roles in the Victorian era. Moreover, the film focuses on finding true love, the power of love, and the romantic scene. Joe Wright realistically maintains the struggle of romantic relationship between Darcy and Elizabeth and the beautiful landscape setting makes the audience feel it.

Autonomous learning as a concept has been around since the early 1960s. Several studies have been carried out to establish its relevance, practicability, and efficacy in the EFL course. However, its use in circumstances other than those in which it first emerged has provoked passionate discussion. While some applied linguists say that learner autonomy is insufficient outside of its native environment as a culturally restricted feature, others feel it is a humanistic attribute that can be employed in any situation. Local instructors’ perspectives are not an exception in the Moroccan EFL context. Some teachers feel that educating students to accept autonomy will have a positive impact. Others, on the other hand, dismiss its significance due to administrative constraints and cultural differences. The purpose of this study is to learn more about Moroccan TEFLRS’ thoughts on student autonomy and how it is used in the local classroom. The study also shows how students think about learner autonomy and provides some suggestions for practicing it in the classroom.

This paper is about exploring what and how soft skills can be gained from using a role-playing game while teaching a speaking skill to children. This study is conducted by analyzing and observing data result from other studies related to this research objective. The subject of this research is a young learner average eight to ten years old student of elementary school. The role play referred to in this research is a simple role-play such as acting and playing pretend that young learners can understand without complicated components. They will perform a role play without set dialogue, only with a scenario idea as they will use their ability to conduct the role play. This study was conducted because of the importance of a soft skill that impacts children's ability in using language. This study found that there are better communication skills, analytical and problem-solving skills, decision-making judgment, and boost learner self-confidence in using English as a second language. Communication skills and self-confidence are developing because there is an interaction between speakers in the context of role-play scenarios. Children tend to imprint a lesson that they experience themselves, consequently making them remember their mistake when they speak English in an attempt to have a conversation in communication. Thence this makes students learn from past mistakes and become more fluent in speaking English as a second language that does not sound stiff as a robot, unlike when they only learn from the textbook. Roleplay is fostering children's analytical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skill because role-play gave them a context of how to apply language in a real-life situation. The student will try to think in a logical order and to speak what they want, consequently stimulating their thinking ability in a good way.

This research studies rural life as the setting in Mark Twain’s masterpiece, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. This research investigates rural life employed by Mark Twain as the setting in the novel. Besides, it highlights the kinds of rural settings intertwined in the story. Finally, this research also investigates how far the settings function to deliver the theme of the novel. In analyzing the work, the study applies a formalist approach that focuses on the text’s intrinsic elements, in this case, the settings. It also utilizes the qualitative method and library research as the method of the study. Finally, it is found that the settings of place are the most dominant setting that carries the novel’s rural aspect compared to the time and social settings. Mississippi River and the villages as the settings of place also play an essential role in delivering one of the story’s themes, the conflict between natural life and civilized life.
