Abstract

This study examines the quality level of service in one of the telecommunication operator (mobile network provider) in Makassar. This paper focuses on the identification of the gaps, mapping quality level of service, and the evaluation of the service quality level. The study was conducted using SERVQUAL approach which refers to the five dimensions of service quality. SERVQUAL is helpful in identifying, mapping, and analyzing the gap level between expectations and perceptions of a telecommunication service. Questionnaires were randomly distributed to the 400 respondents’ mobile telecommunication users in Makassar. The results show that there were 10 negative attributes on the SERVQUAL value of 15 questions. This indicates that the service quality to the users is at the low level. For mapping and prioritization of services related attributes that need to be improved, this study used the Importance-Performance Analysis (IPA) diagram. The first quadrant indicates a high level of customer expectations relative to those attributes but on the perception remains low. The first quadrant is a mapping attribute which is prioritized in the improvement of service quality related to the reliability dimensions i.e the improvement of network quality, network expansion, and the affordable cost of access (Internet, telephone, and SMS).

Abstract

Optimum conditions help us think and work better. Thermal comfort in lecture buildings is important to maintain students’s comfort and help them concentrate on study. The fastest way to achieve expected thermal comfort inside the lecture room is using air conditioner, however, compensation on high electricity bills and degradation of the environmental quality has to be made. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to find and promote several environmental friendly strategies which can provide comfort to users in one hand, but also can reduce energy consumption in another hand. There have been several strategies in records to increase thermal comfort in buildings. To select the best and the most appropriate alternative, Analytical Hierarchy Process method was used by setting the criteria, sub-criteria, and alternatives to increase thermal comfort in lecture buildings of Andalas University. To test the selected alternative, thermal comfort inside two lecture rooms were evaluated experimentally. The comfort level was evaluated using PMV (Predicted Mean Vote) and PPD (Predicted Percentage Dissatisfied) model. For all experimental conditions, PMV and PPD results and individual thermal vote results showed a good match statistically meaning that the PMV and PPD models could predict thermal condition inside the lecture rooms. Results also showed that the presence of natural vegetation infront of glass windows of the lecture rooms statistically improved thermal comfort sensations of students under natural ventilation mode and reduced thermostat setting under air conditioning mode.

Abstract

The development of manufacturing industries are growing rapidly along with the progress of time and the increasing sophistication of technology today, one of which is a manufacturing company engaged in the textile field is PT Unitex Tbk Bogor. PT Unitex Tbk Bogor is a company that processes raw materials into semi-finished and finished materials such as cotton processing up into yarn or fabric. The production process costs physiological and psychological workload which could harm an operator at each work station. The packing work station has the highest workload due to its heavy workload and worker fatigue. This study measures the psychological work load by employing NASA - TLX method. On the other side, for evaluating physiological workload, the pulse rate and body temperature of the operators are measured.

Abstract

Maintenance is a very important activity to keep an equipment always at its best condition. This research aims to create an early warning system/ lifetime spare parts detector of Nissin Kogyo Batam (NKB)Company’sTR Osawa machine by adopting PLC (Programmable Logic Controller). PLC is used to automatically calculate the lifetime spare parts of TR Osawa machine. PLC will shut down the machine if it detects that lifetime spare parts have reached the specified setting standard (380-400 k pcs). As a result, PLC machine can provide more accurate results than manual counting.

Abstract

PT Semen Padang is one of the subsidiaries of PT Semen Indonesia Tbk, which is one of the state-owned enterprises engaged in the business of cement production and trade. PT Semen Padang is now actively promoting synergies and pursuing the company's performance growth to be able to cope with competition in an increasingly tight and complex cement industry. In order to face this, it is necessary to have adequate human resource management from the company. One of the successes of company’s management is the availability of sufficient human resources with high quality, have integrity, professional in accordance with the functions and tasks of each personal and work unit. Since 2015, there has been an increase in overtime hours. This is due to the shortage of employees of PT Semen Padang. The reason is the number of employees who retired and there is no recruitment. Thus, there are some tasks that have not been implemented. In addition, in May 2016 one of the KPI's timely procurement points in the spare parts field was not achieved. Therefore, it is necessary to investigate the workload of employees and give a recommendation of the optimal employee needs for this bureau in the future. The study found that Buyer Bureau Procurement of goods PT Semen Padang has only 74.4% productive work time. It is because the actual number of buyers for the spare parts field is 6 people, while the number of buyers optimal based on the calculation is 8 people.

Abstract

Phantom vibration syndrome is a condition where a person would feel the sensation of vibration of a cell phone as if there were incoming notification but the fact is not. This research investigated the relationship between phantom vibration syndromes, sleep disorder and stress condition. Questionnaires were distributed to 120 participants with age range 18 to 23 years old. Data of participants showed that all of participants using a smart mobile phone and 24% of them have more than one cell phone. Time usage of cell phone is at least 1 hour. 23% of participants using a cell phone for social media activity, followed by 21% related to entertainment (music, video and games). The results showed a positive relationship between phantom vibration syndrome, sleep disorder and stress condition. Insomnia contributed a greater influence on stress condition. However, the phantom vibration syndrome is more directly affecting the sleep apnea compared to insomnia and stress condition. Therefore, the phantom vibration syndrome more affects stress condition indirectly, through sleep disorder (sleep apnea and insomnia). Consequently, phantom vibration syndrome has a strong relationship with stress condition at the time of the phantom vibration syndrome can cause sleep disorder.

Abstract

PT. Coca-Cola Amatil Indonesia is a company that produces carbonated beverages. Most of the production activity uses automatic machines. The problem faced is the damage that often occurs suddenly on the blowmould machine so that corrective maintenance must be done. The purpose of this research is to know the cause of the damage and to propose the action plan to minimize downtime. The method used is Reliability Centered Maintenance to determine the selection of action and time interval of replacement for critical components on the blowmould machine. From the FMEA analysis, it is known that the critical components of each blowmould machine subsystem are bearing roller feed, mandrel, seal gasket, and fitting. The results of LTA analysis are the category of failure (outage problem and economic problem) and the selection of action for the critical component (time directed). From the calculation of Total Minimum Downtime, known that the replacement schedule for critical component are 23 days for bearing roller feed, 9 days for mandrel, 8 days for seal gasket, and 8 days for fitting, that is resulting in decreased downtime of 1.56% with a value of 99.63% availability.
