Abstract

In Indonesia, meat supply is much less than the demand.  The national meat production in 2006 was 2.070.234 t year-1 (DJP 2006) whereas the demand for meat was 2,957,477 t year -1.  In Central Sulawesi forest, anoa has been utilized by the people around the forest as an alternative animal meat to meet their demand for meat.  A mountainous anoa has an average body weight of 40 kg and fresh feed intake of 7-10 kg day-1 animal-1. The biological characteristics of anoa allow the anoa to be domesticated easily as a source of meat animal in the areas around the forest.  There is a lack of study in the aspect of anoa meat nutrition; as a consequence information on such aspect is limited.  Thus, information about anoas response on feed manipulation is necessary.  The present experiment was conducted to study the responses of anoas on feed manipulation.  The experiment was conducted in Palu, Province of Central Sulawesi.  Feeding trials were designed to study the effect of combination of pokae fruits and spinach levels in feed on feed intake, weight gain (WG) and feed efficiency. The treatments were allocated in a 6 x 6 Latin Square design. Analysis of variance and Duncan’s test were applied to analyze the data obtained. Feeding of 5 kg pokae and 1.5 kangkung (R4(5.0/1.5)) diet resulted in the highest intake dry matter, crude protein, Ca, P ,crude fiber, and weight gain of 1.29 kg, 0.60 kg TDN, 0.17 kg, 0.0124 kg and 0.0103 kg, 0.46 kg and 0.516 kg day-1 animal-1, and feed efficiency of 4.3%.

Abstract

Field trial was conducted in the farming area in Parigi Moutong regency. Vigor test was performed in the SeedTechnology Laboratory, Agronomy Department Faculty of Agriculture Tadulako University. This trial lasted from 5 Februaryto 16 July 2006. The aim of this trial was to evaluate the effect of non-tillage and the application of low dosage Phosphorusfertilizer in the rice-field following rice sowing on the initial vigor of mung bean seeds produced. This trial used BlockRandomized Design in factorial pattern with three replications. Two factors tested, namely non-tillage practices with fourlevels, namely non-tillage, non-tillage + mulching, non-tillage + glyphosate, and non-tillage + mulching + glyphosate. Thesecond factor was Phosphorus fertilizer with four levels, namely without Phosphorus fertilizer, 1/3 of recommendedPhosporous fertilizer dosage (30 kg P2O5/ha); 2/3 of recommended Phosphorus fertilizer dosage (60 kg P2O5/ha); and as ofrecommended Phosphorus fertilizer dosage (90 kg P2O5/ha). Differences between treatment were determined by using LeastSignificant Difference test at 5% and 1%. Results of this tial showed that Phosporous fertilizer and non-tillage system did nothave interaction. Application of Phosphorus ar recommended dosage had the highest dried-seed yield per hectare, germination(97,50 %) and germination rate (29,457 %)Keywords : Seed vigor, non-tillage, and Phosphorus

Abstract

The research aim was to develop a mass rearing technique of D. thoracicus by means of creating an artificial nest and to apply such technique as means to control cocoa pod borer (CPB) in small holder plantations. The research was carried out using experimental design and survey methods. The research consisted of different stages of experiments: (i) application of the artificial nest in the cocoa plantation, (ii) data record of cocoa pod borer attack level, (iii) analysis of dispersal pattern, and (iv) analysis of the cocoa production. Results of the research showed that the population density of D. thoracicus in the artificial nest sited on the primary branch was 8-9 times (12 % - 15%) higher than that on the jetty stem and main stem. The application of D. thoracicus by the artificial nest for controlling CPB could suppress the percentage of pod borer attack by 5%, bean damage by 42.95% and bean weight reduction by 21.03%. The analysis of dispersal pattern, based on the distribution pattern by Southwood (1997) in which Z<-1.96 or x mean < S2, showed that during three periods of observations, D. thoracicus tended to cluster.
