Abstract

The topic of Islamic philosophy has always been attracted its reader to a wide yet specific subject including the identification of Islamic Philosophy which related to the relation between its origin and Worldview of Islam, the adaption of Greek philosophy into Islamic Philosophy, and the implications which emerged during and after the glory of Islamic Civilization. This paper will try to elaborate the term of “Islamic Philosophy” from its etymological meaning as well as the identification that taken from revelationbased worldview of Islam. As the beginning, the definitions of “philosophy” will be derived from number of authoritative scholars. The suitability between Islamic Worldview and the Islamization of Greek Philosophy will answer of the questions about ‘the originof Islamic Philosophy’; including the relation between both the important of revelation (wahy) and semantic interpretation. The discussion is continued widely as well on the history of translation in the time of the Caliph Ma’mun, Abbasid, when the civilization of Islam was in its golden era. Initiated by the caliph himself, this period has introduced many authoritative Muslim scholars in translation of knowledge scripts as well as described a lot of unique facts which rarely mentioned in the general literature such as how does the system of Bayt al-H{ikmah work, interreligious relation between Scholars, and even the given salary for the Scholars. Lastly, this paper will redefine the historicity and ethnicity of philosopher explaining why does the reason of the term “Islamic Philosophy” become the most appropriate definition. In the deeper analysis, we do not only see ‘Islamic Philosophy’ as a claim of term but it is also as the ‘worldview identification’. Islamic philosophy, has indeed  successfully assimilated the sophisticated assimilation of the thought of Greek Philosophy by all of its distinctive and characteristics.

Abstract

This paper will research the content of al-Qur'an by finding some correlations between the arrangement of words, sentences and verses with 'ilm al-muna>sabah, so it will clarify the meaning contained therein. 'Ilm al-muna>sabah has an important role in studying interpretation of al-Qur'an. Over time, most of the orientalists and Muslim liberals want to deconstruct the content of al-Qur'an. They spread negative assumptions, that the verses of al-Qur’an and its chapters are not systematic. According to them, it is because the verses of al-Qur’an and its chapters are incompatible with systematic scientific writing, and the displacement of a group of verses to another group has not been synchron. Based on this reason, Ibnu Asyur tries to apply 'ilm al-muna>sabah to interpret al-Qur'an to show maqa>s}id al-Qur’a>n. Then he also proved that the non-systematic al-Qur'an had become one of i'jaz al-Qur'a>n. If the way how Ibnu Asyur analyzed 'ilm al-muna>sabah is observed deeply, it is known that he used 'ilm al-dala>lah (semantics) as his methodological approach, although it is not mentioned in his methodology of interpretation. In al-Fa>tih}ah, for example, he describes their editorial harmony between one verse to another. Even more, it is found among chapters in al-Qur'an, from the first verse to the last one, in explaining the purification of tawhid, and how it is correlated with

Abstract

The issue of diversity or plurality in religion is quite interesting issue interesting to be analyzed. It is because the phenomenon of religious pluralism has become a real social facts and become a part of modern life. For those who are not familiar, and have no experience in peaceful coexistence, it will cause problems, so it is forcing experts from various disciplines to find a solution in order to respond the problems. In the end, numbers of religious pluralism theories appear. Some of them are Global Theology and Transcendent Unity of Religions. If it is investigated accurately, the final target of both theories is an attempt to legitimize the truth of all religions. In addition, the most troubling is the effort to no longer claiming absolute truth. Thus, the social impact of the doctrine of religious pluralism is quite dangerous to the teachings of the religion that has been going well. For Islam, the presence of religious pluralism can not be accepted because it will negatively affect the pillars of Islamic teaching. The impact also affects social life of Islamic community. Therefore, this paper will try to research negative influence brought by religious pluralism against Islam. The research will be focused on social life matters such as interfaith marriage, praying together, and also theological dialogue between religions.

Abstract

In the last decade, new creativity and new awareness of some Moslem scientists who proposed the urgency to interpret al-Qur’an with new approach appeared. One of the scientists was Abdullah Saeed. He sees that there has been a tremendous change in human history. Therefore, he thinks there should be efforts to apply contextual approach of interpreting al-Qur’an. Interpretive approach to the context in question is the interpretation of the trust that the teaching model of the Koran today can be applied by several methods in accordance with the conditions, so that the meaning of the content of the Qur’an that can lead mankind. Model interpretation of this context approach can be implemented through four stages; face word in the text, criticize and analyze the language and considering the context of the letter, meaning that first received and then continued by looking at the social situation and consider the meaning of what is needed at this time. With critical analytical method, this paper tries to explain what and how true interpretation Saeed context approach was realized. Although the idea of true interpretation is not the first time appeared nor purely of itself, but with all the advantages and disadvantages that exist, the proposal was interesting to be observed.

Abstract

This paper will research the meaning of the liberalization of religious thought which can not be separated from the history of modern Western civilization and postmodern. Trends of liberalism has begun from individual liberation efforts in economics and politics, then spread to the individual liberation in intellectuality, religious field, and many other fields. Liberalization of thought goes into Islam through several methods and approaches. Some of them are relativism of truth, reinterpretation of the Koran, and deconstruction of Syariah. Through the program, pluralism ultimately has a negative impact on social life. The impact can be seen in Syariah field like allowing interfaith marriage. While in aqidah it is like acknowledging the right faith of other religions, and in morals it is like relativization of good and bad standard in people by ignoring the role of religion. It is becoming worse when the program is not only propagated by the orientalists, but also spread by some Indonesian Muslim scholars. As a result, it is not a surprise if some scientific studies in Indonesia, that can be found in books, magazines or journals which carried articles supporting liberalism movement of Islamic thought. Looking at the urgency of liberalization of Islamic thought issue, this theme should be researched comprehensively. This paper will focus on a discussion of researching programs of liberalization of religious thought, which could affect people social life. The impact has been devastating in a small institution of society, the family.

Abstract

The people of Ba’lawi or Bani Alawi or whose ancestors came from Hadramaut, Yemen, had a significant influence on Islamic da’wah in the archipelago of Nusantara, where the majority of the population adheres to the Islamic School of Imam Syafi’i. One of that influence can be traced in the aspect of Sufism. The peole of Ba’lawi are descendant of the Prophet Muhammad PBUH-in Indonesia called Habib-which were having quite respectable position among the followers of Imam Syafi’i. In their movement, they have an important role in the internalization of Sufism pattern. Sufism of Ba’lawi has become a ‘fence’ and an effective media of da’wah. As the ‘fence’, the Sufism they called by T{ari>qah Ba> ‘lawi> contains the doctrines of aqidah and amaliyah in order to protect the aqidah of Ahlusunah wal Jama’ah (Aswaja) through a spiritual path. As’ containers’, the simple and modern T{ari>qah Ba> ‘lawi> becomes the main attraction for the Muslims to follow their teaching of aqidah. The approach of morality and mysticism are very interested for residents of the archipelago. Functionally, a number of certain prayers in the t}ari>qah has a specific purpose to protect Ba’lawi descent and Muslims from some teaching of non-Aswaja. However, some accusation related to the relationship between Ba’lawi and Shi’a are quite interesting to discuss. Especially, when the Ba’lawi preachers began to expand their message to the expansion of the archipelago, when the kingdom of Perlak become the main destination. How far are the people of Ba’lawi accused of having relationship with Syi’a? So, how do Muslim researchers react toward this potentially fatal distortion of the facts? This will be the topic of the study written by the author of this paper.

Abstract

Truth is an absolute that must be achieved by human beings. It is because there is an element of the human instincts characteristic in the truth; to seek, to understand and to comprehend. Without the truth, human life would lose a barometer of humanity values. There is a problem when a standard of truth is seized by some ideologies which come from human thought. Therefore, this paper tries to research the concept of truth deeper, including the process of its presence and its causes. To shorten the long discussion of the theory of truth, the author of this article tries to focus his research on Ibnu Sina’s theory of the truth. As a great philosopher of Islam, Ibnu Sina has an ideal concept ofepistemology, so it is worthy to be studied. For the theory of truth, Ibnu Sina has an interesting view on it. According to him, the truth is contained in philosophical thinking which he describes as wisdom. He divides it into two main concepts. In addition, he also explains the the relation between the truth and the philosophy built upon three important reasons. This paper also explains the relation between the truth and the concept of mind, which is called kama>l al-awwal in Ibnu Sina’s terms. Further, this study also discusses the relation of intuition with the theory of truth. Ibnu Sina called intuition with some terms, such as ma’rifah, tah}s}i>l, and mula>h}az}ah

Abstract

To understand the meaning of the content of the holy Qur’an, it takes a lot of disciplines, such as; ‘Ilm’ Ira>b al-Qur’a>n, ‘Ilm Awqa>t al-Nuzu>l,’ Ilm Asba>b al-Nuzu>l, ‘Ilm Ghari>b al-Qur’a>n, and so on. ‘Ilm Asba>b al-Nuzu>l is the most urgent to be studied, because knowing the causes of the decline of a verse (nas}), will greatly assist the understanding and interpretation of the intent of the verse. In addition, Moslem scholars also have very intense attention to this kind of science. In history, there are at least dozens of their books which contain titles with the word Asba>b al-Nuzu>l and the titles are not limited only to the classical Moslem scholars. Contemporary Moslem scholars such as; Abd al-Fattah al-Qadi, Muqbil al-Wadi’i, Ghazi Inayah, Hammad Abd al-Khaliq Hulwah, and so on, also adds richness of development of ‘ Ilm Asba>b al-Nuzu>l. For this reason, this paper will explore the extent of the urgency of ‘Ilm Asba>b al-Nuzu>l by citing some of the opinions of Moslem scholars such as; Imam Ibn al-’id Daqiq, Imam Ibn Taymiyah, Imam al-Suyuti, Imam al-Zarkasyi, Shaykh Abu al-Fath al-Qushayri, and Sheikh Muhammad al-Zarqani. From their explanation, it was found that ‘Ilm Asba>b al-Nuzu>l plays a key role in explaining the meaning of the verse, or eliminating a number of problems related to the study of the Qur’an, especially in vulnerable interpretation sparking different thought or opinion.
