Abstract

Abstract

Batiniah is a particular faith that believes the most important quality in everything spirituality (batin), not physically (zahir). Batin is the essence and nature (hakikat), whereas zahir is unreal sightings. This faith goes into several sects that form their own beliefs. Its influence gets into the sects of Shi’ism philosophy, Ibahiyah, and others. In it development of faith gives influence to the teaching of syncretism, pluralism, and abortion of beliefs to sharia obligations. Finally, some famous scholars paid attention to their teachings. For example Imam al-Ghazali who wrote a special note of criticism against this sect in his book Faḍāiḥ al-Bāṭiniyyah. He explained that the characteristics of Batiniah is to deny the literal meaning of the Qur’an and Hadith. In addition, Imam Abu al-Fadl Qadi Iyad, in al-Syifā bi Ta’r īfi Ḥuqūq al-Muṣṭafa, explained that Batiniah, are those who believes that sharia and a large part of the message brought by the Prophets did not correspond to their inner meaning. This doctrine actually is a mixture of the teachings of Neo-Platonism, Aristotelian philosophy, Zoroastrianism, Judaism, and Islam. So that Batiniah can be said as the faith of syncretism comes into the sects of Islam. Although it has grown and divided since it’s beginning, the basic beliefs are still consistent, that the batin is real and zahir is not real. Thus it tends to trust dualism, the essentials of everything is batin, not the zahir.

Abstract

The people of Ba’lawi or Bani Alawi or whose ancestors came from Hadramaut, Yemen, had a significant influence on Islamic da’wah in the archipelago of Nusantara, where the majority of the population adheres to the Islamic School of Imam Syafi’i. One of that influence can be traced in the aspect of Sufism. The peole of Ba’lawi are descendant of the Prophet Muhammad PBUH-in Indonesia called Habib-which were having quite respectable position among the followers of Imam Syafi’i. In their movement, they have an important role in the internalization of Sufism pattern. Sufism of Ba’lawi has become a ‘fence’ and an effective media of da’wah. As the ‘fence’, the Sufism they called by T{ari>qah Ba> ‘lawi> contains the doctrines of aqidah and amaliyah in order to protect the aqidah of Ahlusunah wal Jama’ah (Aswaja) through a spiritual path. As’ containers’, the simple and modern T{ari>qah Ba> ‘lawi> becomes the main attraction for the Muslims to follow their teaching of aqidah. The approach of morality and mysticism are very interested for residents of the archipelago. Functionally, a number of certain prayers in the t}ari>qah has a specific purpose to protect Ba’lawi descent and Muslims from some teaching of non-Aswaja. However, some accusation related to the relationship between Ba’lawi and Shi’a are quite interesting to discuss. Especially, when the Ba’lawi preachers began to expand their message to the expansion of the archipelago, when the kingdom of Perlak become the main destination. How far are the people of Ba’lawi accused of having relationship with Syi’a? So, how do Muslim researchers react toward this potentially fatal distortion of the facts? This will be the topic of the study written by the author of this paper.

Abstract

This article describes the aesthetic value of Arabic calligraphy or khat. This study of khat art's aesthetic value aims to reveal the model and philosophy of Arabic calligraphy as an Islamic work of art. The analysis in this article employed descriptive methods and two approaches, notably philosophical and historical. The model and philosophy of a work of Islamic art are influenced by the aqliyyah influence of an artist, according to the analysis. Because religious values influence an artist's perspective, his artwork contains an aesthetic philosophy that is also religious. For example, since the arrival of the muballigh from Arabia, the emergence of Islamic arts in the archipelago has been inextricably linked to the process and development of Islamization activities. The propagators of Islam use art and da'wah in their work. In a nutshell, physical and metaphysical beauty are both present in Arabic calligraphy. Physical beauty is pursued in the creation of calligraphy that has smooth and pleasing forms to the eye. The art form of calligraphy contains metaphysical beauty in the form of beautiful and good messages. These messages can be in the form of instruction (ta'limiyyah) or simply facts about da'wah.

Abstract

The tradition of visiting graves is a form of religious expression that has developed in various Muslim communities, especially in Indonesia. One of the tombs that has sacred meaning is Habib Abdullah Al-Haddad Sangeng in Bangil which is very deep. Apart from being a final resting place, this tomb also has symbolic meaning as a meeting point between Islamic values brought from Hadramaut and local culture in Indonesia. This research aims to understand how this tradition was formed, the values contained in it, and the role of sacred graves in the socio-religious dynamics of the local community. The research method used is a historical-cultural approach by examining various historical sources, interviews with community leaders, and direct observation at the grave site. The research results show that the grave of Habib Abdullah Bin Ali Al-Haddad has become a pilgrimage center for Muslim communities, not only from Bangil but also from various other regions in Indonesia. Belief in the blessings (barakah) of this tomb is one of the main factors that encourages people to make pilgrimages, perform prayers, and participate in various rituals that have been going on for generations. Apart from the religious aspect, this tradition also has social and cultural dimensions that strengthen community ties, both through religious, economic activities and social interactions that occur during pilgrimage processions. Thus, pilgrimage to sacred graves not only functions as a practice of worship but also as a means of preserving Islamic cultural heritage in the archipelago. This research provides new insight into the importance of sacred graves in shaping the religious and social identity of Muslim communities in Indonesia.
