Abstract

Paguyuban Sumarah is one well-known aliran kepercayaan in Indonesia existed since the 1930s. The group practised Sujud Sumarah as the most essential ritual attended by the whole member of organizations from multiple religious backgrounds and identities, gathering them in a venue of interreligious ritual participation. This paper will discuss the aspect of interrituality in Sujud Sumarah, considering it is practised by multi-religious believers through the discourse-analysis method following the framework of interrituality offered by Moyaert, an interreligious scholar from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. This research concludes that it is acceptable to define the implementation of Sujud Sumarah as an interreligious ritual participation, yet it could not explicitly be categorized as ‘inner-facing’ or ‘outer-facing’ interrituality as it was classified by Moyaert. This paper also demonstrated, in general, the fundamental system of belief of Sumarah was derived from syncretism and transcendent unity of religions, leading the discussion to be possibly elaborated further in the study of interreligious relations.

Abstract

A further improvement is necessary for the advancement of da’wah in the context of interreligious communities. Regarding the growing of this demand Muslim should evaluate their da’wah method. This paper will attempt to reformulate the method of da’wah based on semantic analysis toward the four obligatory properties of Prophet Muhammad siddiq, amanah, tabligh, and fatanah. Research question here is how we should redefine the obligatory properties of Prophet Muhammad via semantic theoretical framework for the advancement of da’wah in the interreligious context.  To achieve this goal, I will put several sub-chapters to discuss the semantic theoretical framework, namely: the relationship with the Islamic worldview, the elaboration of the compulsory nature of the Prophet Muhammad through the semantic theoretical framework, and then end by overcoming the analysis with a new form of da’wah that anticipates the interfaith context late in inter-commitment from the Islamic truth. This paper concludes that redefining the obligatory properties of Prophet Muhammad via semantic theoretical framework derives the inter-commitment of the Islamic truth as the theological foundation of da’wah in the late interreligious context. It entails the deeper reflection of siddiq, amanah, tabligh, and fatanah the direction of intensifying the competence of da’i regarding the advancement of da’wah in the recent interreligious context.

Abstract

Religious pluralism as an effort to bridge harmony among adherents of religions initiates both theological and philosophical problems. For example, religious pluralism is not only seen as a further effort to build interreligious relationships but also it is built on Truth Relativism. The religious pluralism concept also encourages Marianne Moyaert to investigate religious pluralism more deeply, especially referring to the concept of 'Global Theology' which is conceptualized by John Hick. This paper analyzed a number of theologians' annoyance with Global Theology such as: Hick as a 'Problematic Theologian', demythologizing of Jesus, and most importantly, the blurred relationship between Theology and Philosophy. Following Marianne's Argument, it was believed that the relationship among religions should be built on clear boundaries between Theology and Philosophy, where the boundaries were destroyed by Global Theology. Instead of fading the boundaries between the two, the relationship among religions should be carried out based on a religious understanding based on commitment.

Abstract

Sulha is one well-known method of reconciliation owned by Palestinian Society. Historically, Palestinian utilized it to accommodate two hostile tribes in families in a peacemaking process to prevent conflict escalate to the higher level. As a featured local way to harmonize its people, Palestinian have applied Sulha since the very beginning of Palestinian Civilization to nowadays. Unavoidably, Sectarian collision in Palestine always involves three major religious worshippers within the area: Islam, Christian, and Jewish. Considering its vital position in the Palestinian communities, there has been a lot of researches discussing Sulha as an inseparable element of reconciliation method needed by Palestinians to confront Israelis in particular. Sulha, in another word, plays such a crucial role to find the peacemaking process of Palestinian in a better way. Several tasks remaining, however, to validate and strengthen Sulha as a unique method of reconciliation of Palestinian. After reading several kinds of literature, I believe that Sulha is able to be understood in Worldview of Islam; there are numbers of key concepts associated with Sulha in major Islamic literature: mainly al-Qur'an and Hadith. For instance,Hospitality, Repentance, and Forgiveness. This paper will discuss the interrelation of these keywords to Sulha based on the critical reading of ancient literature of Islam and how it should be implemented by Palestinians to enhance and advance Sulha as a method of conflict resolution. Finally, the research question in this article that will be discussed and answered is: “What are the featured key concepts of Sulha in Worldview of Islam and how it should be implemented by Palestinians?”

Abstract

: Liberal Feminism is an ideology that advocates for equal opportunities for men and women in a variety of areas, including employment, health, education, marriage, and family life, as well as public life and politics. Ideologically, Liberal Feminism emerged from the belief that Biblical Tradition, as documented in its verses, set women apart from men. This study would look at the connection between Biblical culture dominating women's positions in Western civilization and the advent of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW). The investigation would include the patriarchal ideology found in Biblical Tradition, the notion of gender emancipation. In order to answer this research question, this research will use the method of ‘Discourse Analysis' to address the roots of Liberal Feminism as they are found in the Biblical Tradition and the method of ‘Document Analysis' to elaborate on CEDAW records. This study concludes that there is a strong connection between Biblical values and the concept of Liberal Feminism as it is embodied in CEDAW.

Abstract

The topic of Islamic philosophy has always been attracted its reader to a wide yet specific subject including the identification of Islamic Philosophy which related to the relation between its origin and Worldview of Islam, the adaption of Greek philosophy into Islamic Philosophy, and the implications which emerged during and after the glory of Islamic Civilization. This paper will try to elaborate the term of “Islamic Philosophy” from its etymological meaning as well as the identification that taken from revelationbased worldview of Islam. As the beginning, the definitions of “philosophy” will be derived from number of authoritative scholars. The suitability between Islamic Worldview and the Islamization of Greek Philosophy will answer of the questions about ‘the originof Islamic Philosophy’; including the relation between both the important of revelation (wahy) and semantic interpretation. The discussion is continued widely as well on the history of translation in the time of the Caliph Ma’mun, Abbasid, when the civilization of Islam was in its golden era. Initiated by the caliph himself, this period has introduced many authoritative Muslim scholars in translation of knowledge scripts as well as described a lot of unique facts which rarely mentioned in the general literature such as how does the system of Bayt al-H{ikmah work, interreligious relation between Scholars, and even the given salary for the Scholars. Lastly, this paper will redefine the historicity and ethnicity of philosopher explaining why does the reason of the term “Islamic Philosophy” become the most appropriate definition. In the deeper analysis, we do not only see ‘Islamic Philosophy’ as a claim of term but it is also as the ‘worldview identification’. Islamic philosophy, has indeed  successfully assimilated the sophisticated assimilation of the thought of Greek Philosophy by all of its distinctive and characteristics.

Abstract

In perspective of Postmodern West, thought discourses always colored by relativism, equality, nihilism, and reconstruction. This discourses of thought, cannot be separated from the profane Western worldview, which formed during the several hundred years of experience theological, sociological, and historical of West. Nowadays –Postmodern- worldview became the foundation for providing responses to the phenomenon that exist in the West, including feminism and gender. Islam, such as din and ideology is conceptually also obligated to set up the concept of worldview projected by texts in the form of the Quran and al-Hadith. Both this primary source of Islam derived concepts about God, Nature, Science, Mind, Soul, and so forth as a spectrum set of Muslims viewpoints in doing things. Related here, Islamic worldview is necessary to observe, analyze, to the stage critiquing feminism and gender discourse that is a product of western Worldview. Islamic Worldview demanded to review and response proportionally to discourses of western Worldview which has difference with Islam conceptually.

Abstract

As a Muslim sociologist, Malik Bennabi has both an answer and a criticism of western scholars' opinions on the dichotomy between science and religion. In this paper, the author tries to describe and analyze malik Bennabi's pattern of thinking related to the integration between religion and science. In this brief study, it can be seen that according to Bennabi between science and religion has a very close relationship, even the two have a single role in the formation of a civilization. This is certainly what is meant by Islamic civilization. Islamic civilization is a civilization of science, even Islam itself is a religion and civilization, so in Islamic civilization between science and religion is an inseparable unity. While Western civilization according to Bennabi at this time is on the verge of destruction, because of the moral decadence manifested from the dichotomy between religion and Science. This is because basically the identity of Western civilization itself must be a separation between science and religion, namely with secularization. Gradually but surely European culture has melted away with secular travel, which further led them towards positivism and materialism. From there science and morals have their own paths, so the separation between science and conscience becomes common in areas covered by secular culture.

Abstract

As one of the many themes that get a lot of attention on contemporary issues of Sufism is transcendent unity of religion from perspective of perennial philosophy. Perennial philosophy believes a universal and eternal unity of religion rest on its esoteric dimension. Esoteric dimension has it different concept with exoteric dimension, whereas esoteric dimension is inner dimension that spiritual, exoteric dimension is outer dimension of religions in the form of ritual, or other branches of the secondary nature of religions. This view would then imply the understanding of the validity of religious pluralism in the form of Sufism legitimacy. One of the figures was quite inspiring teachings perennial philosophy is Frithjof Schuon. Schuon, became one of the initiators of the transcendent unity of religions in the Sufism legitimacy that in its development and has a very strong relationship to the development of religious pluralism that is modern as are held by Chittick, Hick, or WC Smith. This paper will tries to analyze critically the origin of the transcendent unity of religions in the perspective of Sufism by arguing Frithjof Schuon.
