Abstract

Background: Symptoms experienced hemorrhoid sufferers are feeling pain in the anus, especially in sitting position. It is necessary to innovate special underwear which can reduce pressure on the anus and the pain experienced by the patientObjective: the study aimed to create and analyze special underwear for hemorrhoid sufferers which increased comfort and reduce the intensity of pain. Methods: This research imitated Research and Development (R&D). It consisted of 3 stages; stage I (literature study), stage II (product development) and stage III (product experiment).Result: The literature study in stage I obtained materials used to create special underwear for hemorrhoid sufferers by Cotton Combed 30s of 100% premium cotton and foam as a cushion. In the second phase of the research, designs and shapes were obtained. The results of product experiment in the third phase of the study discovered that respondents felt more comfortable by the special underwear than ordinary underwear and it was very effective in reducing pain. Conclusion: The innovation of hemorrhoid underwear is effective to increase comfort and reduce pain intensity in hemorrhoid sufferers.

Abstract

Background: The aging process results in changes in the musculoskeletal system causing a decrease in function of joints, loss of elasticity and limited mobility. This condition also causes joint pain, especially in the joints supporting the body weight, namely the knee. The previous studies discussed the method of reducing pain using a contras bath which was implemented by soaking parts of the body that experience pain alternately with hot and cold water, this was difficult to apply if the pain occurs in the upper body. Modifications in contrast baths using compresses to the knee joint have never been implemented before. Objective: This study aimed to figure out the effect of the contras bath method using compresses to reduce knee joint pain in the elderly.Method: The design of this study was pre-experimental with one group of pretest-posttest. The sample used was 16 elderly who were selected by random sampling at Posyandu (a center for pre- and postnatal health care and information for elderly) in village of Sawit Gantiwarno, Klaten. Contrast bath is applied by giving compresses of warm and cold water alternately with a ratio of three minutes: one minute per-day during 20 minutes, for a week. Pain measurement is performed using the Visual Analog Scale (VAS) instrument.Result: The mean of knee pain before giving a contrast bath was 5.44, whereas after a contrast bath was 3.50. Bivariate analysis used Wilcoxon, it showed p value <0.05 which means there was a significant difference in knee joint pain before and after contrast baths were applied. Conclusion: Administration of contrast bath can reduce knee joint pain in the elderly.

Abstract

Pain management must be done systematically according to the type of pain and its severity level in order to obtain optimal results. Therefore it is necessary to have an expert in pain management, who is equipped with a variety of pain management knowledge. In Indonesia there is no specific profession or license to become a pain management specialist. In this article the author tries to explain what is pain management specialist from various references abroad.

Abstract

Background: The dysmenorrhea prevalence is still reported high in the world. Several previous studies discovered that deep breathing relaxation effectively reduced dysmenorrhea. Other studies presented the combination of early mobilization and spiritual relaxation could reduce the level of client pain postoperative appendectomy, however the effectiveness of spiritual relaxation techniques to reduce dysmenorrhea is not yet tested. Objective: to determine the effect of spiritual relaxation to reduce dysmenorrhea.Method: The research design used was Quasi Experiment with the pretest-posttest Control Group Design approach. The populations were female students who experienced menstrual pain (dysmenorrhea) and met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The variable in this study was dysmenorrhea. The sampling technique was simple ramdom sampling consisted of 44 respondents. The calculation instrument was NRS (Numeric Rating Scale) and data were analyzed through statistical test of Paired T-Test and Independent T-Test.Results: After spiritual relaxation treatment, the intensity of menstrual pain reduced significantly from 6.05 - 1.77, it proved that there was an effect of spiritual relaxation on dysmenorrhea with a significant value (ρ) of 0.000 (p ≤ 0.05). There were significant differences in the intensity of menstrual pain in the intervention and control groups (1.77 ± 1,109 vs 5.63 ± 0.445; p> 0.05).Conclusion: Spiritual relaxation effectively reduces dysmenorrhea

Abstract

Background: Hemodialysis is a kidney replacement therapy, but it has many complications identified, one of them is pain. Thus, we need non-pharmacological interventions that can be done by nurses, among them is progressive muscle relaxation (PMR), which is economically-efficient and no side effects. Objective: To determine the effect of progressive muscle relaxation on pain in hemodialysis patients. Methods: This is a quasi experimental design of time series design. The number of samples was 100 patients taken by simple random sampling. Progressive muscle relaxation (PMR) was given every day for 4 weeks. Research instrument  applied was Brief Pain Inventory. The data analysis employed independent t-test.Results: There was a decrease in pain level from week to week after the intervention, from the scale of 6 (moderate pain) to scale 3 (mild pain). There was a difference in the level of pain between the intervention group and the control group p <0.001.Conclusion: The therapy of non-pharmacological using a progressive muscle relaxation is proven to reduce pain in hemodialysis patients.
