Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the differences in effectiveness of PBL learning models with TPS in terms of the critical thinking skills of elementary school students in mathematics. This research is a quasi-experimental study. In this study, the Non-equivalent Control Group Design design is used to investigate the effects of the two variables used. In this study 19 students at Bacem Elementary School and 19 students at Waru Elementary School, Jepon District, Blora Regency. The two groups were given different treatments, namely the PBL learning model was treated in the experimental group at Bacem SDN, and the TPS model was treated in the control group at Waru Elementary School. Based on the results of the study, H_oditotak and H_a were accepted. The analysis in this study used the Ngain test to determine the increase in the average value of the results of the pretest and posttest. This is based on the results of the NGain analysis showing an increase in value after being given PBL treatment of 0.64, while the increase in value after being given TPS treatment was 0.53. Based on all analysis results, it can be concluded that there are significant differences in effectiveness in this study. Evidently the application of PBL learning models has a higher level of effectiveness when compared to the TPS learning model of the critical thinking skills of fifth grade students in mathematics

Abstract

This study aims to develop and assess the quality of mathematics teaching materials with the context of traditional Dayak Kanayatn tools on the ability of students' mathematical connections on valid, practical, and effective two dimentional figure. The type of research used is Research & Development (R&D) research with reference to the 4-D model, namely Define, Design, Development, and Disseminate. The test subjects in this study were grade V students of SD Negeri 06 Ngabang with a total of 22 students. Based on the results of limited trials conducted, it was found that 1) the results of the validation of teaching materials were 76.97% in the valid category, 2) the results of practicality based on observations of the implementation of teaching materials developed showed that teaching materials with very practical categories, 3) the results of the effectiveness of the materials teaching is 73.33% with the effective category. So it can be concluded that at the limited trial stage a mathematics teaching material is carried out in the context of the traditional Dayak Kanayatn tool that has met the criteria of validity, effectiveness, and effectiveness of the ability of mathematical connections

Abstract

This study is intended to produce a problem-based mathematics learning model for SMK (Vocational High School). The development used the Plomp development model. The procedures are: (1) preliminary study; (2) the stage of developing or making a prototype; and (3) assessment phase. The feasibility of a problem-based mathematics learning model for SMK  that is developed refers to the product quality criteria that are valid, practical, and effective. The development of problem-based mathematics learning models for Vocational Schools involved two experts and three practitioners. The objects in this study were students of first year  vocational high schools in South Tangerang City and three mathematics teachers. Sampling techniques used in this study are  purposive sampling, stratified random sampling, and proportional random sampling. The instruments used consist  of: instruments for evaluating validity which included validation sheets, instruments for assessing practicality which included practicality assessment sheets from teachers and students, and observations sheets for the implementation of learning, as well as effectiveness assessment sheets namely learning achievement tests. The results showed that the learning model developed includes syntax, social systems, reaction principles, support systems, and learning impacts that meet valid, practical, and effective criteria

Abstract

This study aims to find out the significant effect of cooperative learning type Think Pair Share (TPS) in improving students’ learning achievement on the subject of elementary statistics. This is a quasi experimental study involving all students who take elementary statistics subject at the Department of Mathematics Education, Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta. The subjects of this study were devided into 2 groups, namely the experimental group taught using cooperative learning type Think Pair Share (TPS) and the control group taught using conventional learning. Each group is taught with the same topic, namely hypothesis testing. In this study, the data collection was done by test and observation. Whereas, the data analysis was conducted using one way ANOVA (Analysis of Variance) with five percent of significant level.  Based on the analysis, it can be concluded that there is a significant effect of learning methods on students’ learning achievement on statistics. The learning mathematics with cooperative learning type Think Pair Share (TPS) can improve students’ learning achievement on statistics

Abstract

Achievement of student learning outcomes and activities in learning is one of the things that can describe or is one of the benchmarks determining the quality of student learning. The emotional intelligence factor can affect the quality of learning. Therefore, the formulation of the problem in this study is how the description of the quality of mathematics learning of students is viewed from emotional intelligence on transformation material in SMA Negeri 2 Majene. The purpose of this study was to determine the description of the quality of mathematics learning of students in the classroom in terms of emotional intelligence on transformation material in SMA Negeri 2 Majene. This research is a type of qualitative research. The quality of student learning referred to in this study is the quality of student outcomes and activities. How to choose a subject that is by giving questionnaires to emotional intelligence to students then choose two students who have high emotional intelligence scores, two students with moderate emotional intelligence scores and two students with low emotional intelligence scores. The data collection method uses a combination of test, questionnaire and interview methods. Learning quality data obtained from quality test results and interviews of subject activities in the classroom. The results showed that the quality of the results of subjects with high emotional intelligence classified in the high and low categories, subjects with moderate emotional intelligence were both classified in the low category and subjects with low emotional intelligence classified in the medium and low categories, while for the quality of the process, the two subjects of emotional intelligence the first high and low emotional intelligence subject understands all indicators, whereas the second moderate emotional intelligence subject and the second low emotional intelligence subject do not meet all indicators

Abstract

The ability of students to represent mathematical expressions related to HOTS problems is still not good. This study aims to describe the representation of the mathematical expression of students in solving HOTS problems. This type of descriptive research using a qualitative approach in terms of aspects of the representation of mathematical expressions. The subjects of this study were 17 Civil Engineering students who were taking lectures in the academic year 2018/2019. The data collection technique in this research is the test item description. The instrument used was in the form of a test sheet. Data analysis was carried out through three stages: data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that students could involve mathematical symbols correctly and appropriately in each stage of solving HOTS analysis type questions. Students can present other mathematical representations into mathematical expression representations and involve mathematical symbols correctly and appropriately in each stage of HOTS problem solving, both Evaluation type and Creating type. Abstract

Mathematical representation is the ability to express ideas or definitions raised by the students when solving problems. At now, most students have difficulties in the ability of mathematical representation. The difficulty of this mathematical representation needs to be analyze the causes, including analysis based on gender differences. This type of research is a qualitative study which aims to systematically describe the ability of mathematical representation based on gender differences. The subjects of the study was grade IX students at SMP Negeri 4 in Natar, South Lampung. Research subjects numbered 31 people, consisti of 16 boys and 15 girls. Data was collected through tests and observations, and data were analyze descriptively based on 3 indicator levels, namely visual representations, mathematical expressions or similarty, and written words or texts. The results showed that there were differences in representation when viewed regarding gender, where girls make more representation than boys.
