This scientific basis is then depicted in various research topics for its development underpinned by research examples to trigger the development of knowledge and social dynamics.

Sufis in Aceh, historically, had shown its real action in their daily life in relation to both vertical and horizontal. For vertical relations, the followers performed any Sufi practice leading them to their God. For horizontal relationship, they protected and defended their society and state by performing jihad against the Dutch as colonizers and infidels for them. There are at Ieast three factors influenced Sufis actions to be more attractive. First, the condition of Acehnese sultanate became weak. Second, the Dutch seemed eagerly to expand their colonial territory to Aceh. Third, the Acehnese had already kept in touch with other Muslims in Arabia since the Islam coming to this area. This article elaborates in detail on this matter by using primary sources from manuscripts and archives. Besides, secondary sources are also referred for comperation.

This writing is about the importance of maintaining the cultural heritage of Nusantara as the effort to maintain the heritage of the world. This writing argues that the culture of Nusantara is the result of the assimilation process of different advanced civilizations of the world such as that of Chinese, Arabs, Persian, Indian, European etc. Each of those civilizations has given a valuable contribution to the development of cultures in Indonesian Archipelago (formerly known as Nusantara). The process of cultural development thus produces a valuable cultural property in the form of buildings such as architectural mosaic and intellectual works such as literary works. Cultural richness consists of two kinds of cultures namely; the culture of material and the culture of thought. These are the two significant cultures which have been shaping the personality of a nation or society. These two kinds of cultures have the positive and noble values that become the driving force for the nation to develop. Thus, to maintain the cultural heritage of Nusantara means to maintain the world heritage as some elements of the heritage of Nusantara are taken from many other nations. To analyze the process of how to maintain the cultural heritage of Nusantara (Indonesia), this writing uses the theory of civilization by Toynbee which is known as the theory of Challenge and Response. The theory is useful to see how one culture can develop and reach high culture and finally can produce the grandeur of civilization.

Essentially, the application of Islamic law in Indonesia has a huge opportunity. Undeniably, there remain challenges, both from within (Muslims) and from outside (other than Muslims). The great and tremendous challenges come from Muslims themselves. Muslims do not want Islamic law in Indonesia upright. The reason is the government is also unwilling because of the existing legal system and dissimilarity of attitude, understanding, practice of Muslims and Islamic leaders of Al-Quran and Al-Hadith, especially in relation to politics. It is likely to continue in line with the dynamics of Muslims in the state and nation. Pros and cons of Muslims against the application of Islamic law, including the unwillingness of groups against Islamic approach to structural (power) and Islamic cultural (culture), will raise the difficult and impossible application of Islamic law in Indonesia. Therefore, for most Muslims, the teachings should be reinterpreted beyond the textual meaning and application in real life.

The religious tolerance and harmony is something necessary to develop due to the need of global security and peace today. For this purpose, all religions have to be fairly ?tolerant? to others. Islam as a revealed religion, whatever its motive, is often perceived and accused as the religion of intolerance and violence. Some political and ideological questions, for example raised to this context: "Can Islamic faith tolerate other faiths, religions or groups??, What?s actually the Islamic teachings on tolerance and peace or harmony?? and the likes. This article attempts to unpack and elaborate of how far at Qur?an ?as the first and primary source of Islam? has a teaching on tolerance and peace. Using a hermeneutical approach the writer understands and analyses what is actually taught by al Qur'an on the concepts and practices of the tolerance. Based on the analysis, he highlights any conclusions of which al-Qur?an (Islam) teaches the followers to respect and implement the doctrine of tolerance and peace. The Muslim world is imperatively to tolerate others, or respect the differences for strengthening the world security and peaceful life amongst nationwide.

The word jihad has been understood various way according to motive, objective, paradigm, perspective and the historical background, including political and doctrinal interests of the users. Jihad becomes an equivocal concept resulting the conceptual debates and doctrinal dispute. Response to this condition, it is necessary to redefine and reformulate such concepts seen from the Qur?anic perspective. This study endevours to explicate how Al-Qur?an as the Muslim?s holy book views the jihad as one of fundamental teachings in one side, and of how the Muslims as the followers implement such teachings of jihad in daily life accordingly. The article highlights that, in nature, jihad has any positive and constructive meaning as the struggle for improving the life-quality of the human beings as a whole.

Arunachal Pradesh, the north-easternmost state of India is a mountainous terrain inhabited by a number of ethnic communities. Due to its geographical isolation, it is still cut off from mainstream India and has limited interaction with the rest of India. There are as many as 26 major tribes and several hundred sub-tribes. They have their own distinct culture, tradition and religious belief system. Some of the ethnic communities namely, Apatani, Nyishi, Galo, Tagin, Tangsa, Wancho, Mishmi etc. have their indigenous religious practices with well-defined belief system but due to limited research there is a paucity of data which fails to present a clear picture of the culture and tradition of the ethnic communities of the region. In many ways, their indigenous religion plays an important role in influencing the peoples? arts and culture. This paper is an attempt to review the ethnic religious art and culture of the people of Arunachal Pradesh in an effort to highlight and preserve their ethnic cultural identity.
