Abstract

Dental caries continues to be the most common infectious disease in childhood. Improvement of oralhigiene is the strategy for preventing dental caries. This can be achieved by means of dental health education(DHE). This descriptive study purposed to evaluate the role of DHE on oral higiene status was measured by means ofGreen Vermillion Oral Higiene Index (OHI). The study was conducted during November 2010 –Januari 2011. OHIevaluation was performed at three time visit for every week interval. DHE was performed personslly, once, at the firstvisit, after evaluating OHI. The results showed that there were tendency of declining mean OHI after DHE treatment, both in boys and girls groups. In girls groups, at the first visit mean OHI =1,38. second visit OHI= 0,65 and third visit OHI =0,45, while for boys group, first visit mean OHI = 1,28, second visit OHI = 0,42 and third visit OHI = 0,35. It can beconcluded that personal DHE method improved oral higiene status, there for it was recomended that intensive DHEshould be performed as a routine clinical prosedure

Abstract

The changes of hormonal during pregnancy can increase the hormones estrogen and progesterone. Increased estrogen and progesterone can cause excessive response in periodontal tissues so easily happen inflammation of the periodontal tissues. The most important aspects of the inflammation is the leukocyte reaction. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of periodontal disease during pregnancy to the total number of leukocytes and leukocyte counts. Research procedures performed each trimester which includes examining periodontal index (PI) to assess the severity of periodontal disease and total leukocyte counts and leukocyte counts were taken from venous blood. The data obtained were analyzed with linear regression test. Statistical analysis showed that the higher the score PI will increase the total number of leukocytes. The conclusion of this study is periodontal disease during pregnancy may increase the total number of leukocytes and leukocyte counts.

Abstract

Dental caries is a process that starts from tooth decay to the email dentin. The success of fluoride because of its ability to penetrate the material, the inhibition of demineralization and remineralization email a high gear, while allowing adaptation caries prevention materials can be attached to the fullest to the tooth structure and can prevent bacterial pertmbuhan. The purpose of writing this paper is to provide information about the use of systemic fluoride as caries prevention in children. Fluorine plays an important role in the prevention of caries and caries control. Fluorine is the most widely antikaries material digunakan.Kadar fluoride used for fluoridation of drinking water from 0.7 to 1 ppm as optimum levels in drinking water can provide maximum protection and effect on caries incidence of dental fluorosis minimal. Fluor as anticariogenic material that can be administered during dental systemically in pre eruption.

Abstract

Background. The content of the coffee beans that are antioxidants have good potential, particularly against cancers of the oral cavity. Polyphenols in coffee beans 5% together the other ingredients in the diet, such as vitamin C, vitamin E and carotenoids, can protect the body's tissues against oxidative stress. Antioxidants can prevent a variety of diseases associated with oxidative stress, such as cancer. Objective. Research to determine the expression of GSH on monocytes were exposed to coffee beans and DMBA in vitro. Research Methods. Monocytes aspirated, added RPMI, resuspension with M 199, penstrep, fungisone. Superimposed on a cell culture plate that was given coverslip, added M 199, incubation. Add RPMI, incubation, discard lymphocytes, washing with RPMI. Add medium M 199, incubation. Cultures are washed, resuspension with M 199, treatments according to the research group. KO: Monocytes, K1: Coffee Monocytes + 10% + DMBA, K2: Coffee Monocytes + 5% + DMBA, K3: Monocytes + Coffee 10%, K4: Monocytes + coffee 5%, K5: Monocytes + DMBA. Immunocytochemistry for the analysis of GSH. Cells expressing GSH brown under a light microscope with a magnification of 400 times and counted on five visual fields. Research Result. Results of ANOVA analysis (p <0.01) showed that there were significant differences in all groups. Furthermore, the LSD test (p <0.05), the results are significant differences between all groups. Conclusion. Coffee beans can increase GSH expression on monocytes were exposed to DMBA.

Abstract

Bruxism is the medical term for the grinding of teeth or the clenching of jaws. Bruxism often occurs during deep sleep or while under stress. No one knows why bruxism happens. But in some cases, kids may grind because the top and bottom teeth are not aligned properly. Others do it as a response to pain, such as an earache. Kids might grind their teeth as a way to ease the pain, just as they might rub a sore muscle. Stress, usually nervous tension or anger is another cause. For instance, a child might worry about a test at school or a change in routine. Some kids who are hyperactive also experience bruxism. And sometimes kids with other medical conditions (such as cerebral palsy) or on certain medications can develop bruxism. The most common solution is usually a recommendation from the mouth guard. Wear a mouth guard at night will prevent the child from grinding their teeth and night, and has a very high success rate in reducing the habit.

Abstract

Development of methods to improve delivery of drugs for treating dangerous disease like cancer and viral infections are very important today. Selectivity in therapy is needed, hence capability to deliver drugs at specific site being studied in order to reduce toxicity and unwanted side effect at non target site. Many drugs delivery from passive targeting to active targeting delivery will be improved to reach that purpose. Because this system is very important for cancer therapy, many cytotoxic agent have been approved by clinical examination. Besides that targeting drug delivery is very useful for neurological diseases such as alzhemier, liver diseases, kidney, lung, and colon diseases.

Abstract

Mental retardation or commonly known as Mental Retardation (RM) is characterized by general intelligence functions that are below average and is accompanied by reduced ability to adapt or behave in adaptive. As a result of the disorder can affect the growth and development. The purpose of this study was todetermine the nutritional status of patients with RM. This study is an observational analytic study with a cross-sectional data retrieval. The study population is students SLB Dharma Wanita Sidoarjo regency. Large study sample was 37 students were randomly taken proportionately based on the severity of the RM. The data retrieved are age, TB and BB. Further data are calculated using the nutritional status of index TB / U and BB / U based on the size of the Z-score WHO NCHS. Analysis of the data using Kruskal Wallis test followed by Mann-Whitney test. Statistical test results showed that there are significant differences in the examination of TB / U in 3 groups of RM. But on examination BB / U data analysis showed no significant difference. Furthermore, the data TB / U were analyzed again using the Mann-Whitney test and found that there are significant differences between mild to RM medium and heavy. There is no official standard measure of nutritional status of patients with RM, so that the measurement is compared to the size of the WHO standard. In anthropometry, most RM patients included in the normal range and tend to be obese. RM moderate and severe sufferers tend to be different, because the more complex as well etiology factors consequences thereof. There is a possibility RM or RM is experiencing severe disruption due to thelinear growth factor complex
