Abstract

Candida albicans infection is a fungal infection that most often encountered in the clinic and often recurrent. C. albicans infection remains a significant clinical problem. C. albicans can cause severe infection in mucosal and systemic, especially in patients with immunological disorders. Pathogenesis of C. albicans infection through the development of the virulence factors and specific strategies for success in colonization, infection of thehost tissue. The purpose of this paper is to describe the role of virulence factors in pathogenesis of C.albicans infection. In C. albicans infection, the role of virulence factors are very important, in addition to the role of an impaired immune status. Some virulence factors involved in infection of C. albicans are phenotypic switching, dimorfims morphology, adhesion, secretion of hydrolytic enzymes and others.

Abstract

Adequate amounts of Calcium ions are essential for the developmental of enamel, dentin, and cementum. The delivery of adequate amounts of calcium to the dental tissues during developmental is essentially dependent on the maintenance of normal calcium concentrations in the extracellular fluids. Since the homeostatic mechanisms controlling the extracellular calcium ions concentration are highly efficient, only the most severe forms of calcium deprivation can result inhypocalcification of the dental tissues. Genetic defects or deficiencies of nutrients in addition to calcium may result in the formation of abnormal enamel, dentin or cementum.

Abstract

The reconstruction of bone defects remains a challenge for the oral surgeon until now, because the healing process is often susceptible to interference or even failure. To assist the process of bone healing, do therapy by using a material or the bone graft substitute material. Bone graft should have three basic functions such as osteogenesis, osteoinduction and osteoconduction. The high level of bone graft demands led to the researchers and surgeons continue to develop biomaterials as an alternative. The use of autografts is still the gold standart for the restoration of bone defects. One of the bioceramics are frequently used in biomedical applications as an ingredientsubstitution therapy or bone graft is a synthetic hydroxyapatite. The composition of hydroxyapatite crystals have an overview identical to hydroxyapatite in bone. This material is biocompatible, osteokonduktif, and can be fused with the bone so that it can improve the process of bone regeneration.

Abstract

Cultural advancement of society will be accompanied by an increase in the demands of life. The demands of health, especially dental and oral health is an integral part of health in general and subsequently became one of the keys to the success of national development 1. Indonesia public awareness of the importance of oral health is still relatively low when compared with other countries. The community is still reluctant to health check their teeth, even not a few others who are afraid of seeing a dentist. This led to increasingly complex problems of oral health. Developments in medicine and dentistry in particular have grown so rapidly mouth. Types of care and handling of the increasingly diverse, so the facilities demanded more complete service and integrated. Complaint data on the patients most DJATIROTO RSU 2010 is the patient with dental pulp hyperemia (HP) of 901, pulp gangrene (GP) of 913, gangrene radik (GR) 255, 431 as much persistence, abscesses and gingivitis as many as 468 580. Therapy is the most widely performed on HP gear is a composite material compact and dense glass ionomer (GI), with GP dental root canal treatment with medication and some do the extraction, the tooth with medication and GR is the extraction, the tooth with the persistence of the action extractions, abscesses and open burs with medication and in the case of gingivitis skalling action.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to provide controlled release dosage by avoiding first pass metabolism and enzymatic degradation. Propranolol hydrochloride mucoadhesive buccal tablets was prepared by direct compression method using carbopol and CMC Na as buccal mucoadhesive polymer. Buccal mucoadhesive strength measured using buccal mucosa of gout. Testing the release of propranolol hydrochloride was determined by dissolution test using phosphate buffer solution pH 6,8 for 8 hours. Dissolution efficiency (DE) was calculated to describe the overall release profiles and used in determining the optimum response. The optimum region is determined using factorial design with the design criteria of response force for 20-40 grams of mucoadhesive buccal and DE480 between 45-55%. The amount of carbopol that can provide the optimum response is between the range of 53,27-55 mg while the amount of CMC Na can provie the optimum response range is between 70-100 mg.

Abstract

Gene therapy is a method to repair damaged or defective genes that responsible for the onset of certain diseases. Now, numerous prototypes of DNA can control the progress of the disease through induction or inhibition of genes, but the bad cellular uptake and the rapid in vivo degradation of DNA-based therapy require the use of delivery system that can facilitate the cellular internalization and keep its activity. Cationic polymers are commonly used as gene carrier because it is easy to form complexes and it has higher stability compared with lipoplexes. Cationic polymer chitosan is the most widely used in gene delivery system because of the low toxicity andbiocompatible. Gene delivery system using viruses shows high transfection result but it has many disadvantages, such as oncogenic effects and immunogenicity. However, cationic polymers, such as chitosan have the potential for complexation of DNA that can be used as a non-viral vector for gene therapy. Chitosan provides a strongelectrostatic interaction with negative charge of DNA to form nanoparticles and effectively protect from nuclease degradation. Those properties make chitosan become a good candidate from non viral gene delivery.

Abstract

Non precious alloys were used widely in dentistry, because cost was relatively lower than noble alloys (precious alloy). This study aims to evaluate the microhardness NiCr alloys were frequently used in the construction of crown and bridges prosthodontics and metal frame dentures with different methods. Casting methods used were: 1) induction / argon, the argon electromagnetic induction with controlled atmospheric pressure, 2) induction / vacuum, the electromagnetic induction in a vacuum environment, 3) induction /air, electromagnetic induction air was not controlled by atmospheric pressure and 4) flame / air from combustion of gas / oxygen in centrifugal castings machine was not controlled by atmospheric pressure. The three of alloys used were Ni-Cr-Mo-Ti: Ni-Cr-Mo-Be and Ni-Cr-Mo-Nb. The sample size was 60, divided into 12 groups (each group consisted of 5 samples). Cylindrical samples with a length of 15 mm and a diameter of 1.6 mm. After casting, the samples were embedded in resin and polished for Vickers microhardness measurement in a Shimadzu HMV-2 (1000 g with duration of 10 seconds). The data obtained were in the form of indentations (indentation) on the surface of the sample. The data was subjected to two-way ANOVA and Tukey's multiple comparison test ( = 0.05). The two way ANOVA suggested a non significant effect of the interaction alloys versus casting (p=0.10). A significant effect of alloy (p<0.0001)and casting methods (p<0,0001) was detected. The hardness value of Ni-Cr-Mo-Ti (421 ± 7.8) was higher (p <0.05) than the Ni-Cr-Mo-Nb (414 ± 7.6). The hardness value of the casting method of induction / argon and induction/ vacuum was similar (p> 0.05), and lower than the induction / air and flame / air (p <0.05). The lowest hardness value was Ni-Cr-Mo-Be (358 ± 10.7). The hardness value in the condition induction/ air and flame /air was similar (p> 0.05). The microhardness of the alloys was influenced by their composition and casting method. The microhardness of NiCr alloy hardness was higher when they were cast with induction/air and flame/air methods
