Abstract

Abstract This research is aimed: (1) To know which model among the MMP modified model, MMP model and the conventional model that produces a better student achievement. (2). To know which students who have better learning achievement among those who have high spatial ability, medium and low. (3). To know which model that produces better student achievement, the MMP modified modeI, MMP model or conventional model at each level of students’s spatial abilities. This is a quasi-experimental research design with a factorial 3 x 3. The research population is students of Grade X Senior High School Students Surakarta of the academic year 2010/2011. The sampling technique is a combination of studies stratified random sampling and cluster random sampling. The selected samples of this research are: (1). First experimental group consist of 99 student’s (34 students of X1 class of SMA Negeri 2 Surakarta, 33 students of X1 class of SMA Negeri 3 Surakarta and 32 students of X5 class of SMA Negeri 8 Surakarta; (2). Second experimental group consist of 100 student’s (34 students of X2 class of SMA Negeri 2 Surakarta, 34 students of X2 class of SMA Negeri 3 Surakarta and 32 students of X6 class of SMA Negeri 8 Surakarta; (3). Control group consist of 100 student’s (34 students of X3 class of SMA Negeri 2 Surakarta, 34 students of X3 class of SMA Negeri 3 Surakarta and 32 students of X7 class of SMA Negeri 8 Surakarta. The instrument used for data collection is the preliminary ability tests, achievement tests and ability tests of spatial learning of students in the form of multiple choice. Before the test instruments are used, they are being tried out first. For preliminary ability and achievement test, the validity, reliability (used KR-20 test) and difference and difficulty level tests are tried out. While the instruments of spatial ability tests are taken from standardized tests so they do not need any try out. Before conducting the research first tested using a one-way Analysis of Variants with an unequal cell. Hypothesis of the research were tested by using a two-way Analysis of Variants with an unequal cell at the significance level of 5%. Previously, it is prerequisites tested, namely: normality test using the test Lilliefors and homogeneity test using Bartletts test. The conclusion of this research are: (1) The MMP modified learning model produce student achievement better than the MMP learning model and the conventional learning model, and the MMP learning model produces a better student achievement  than conventional model; (2) The students who have high spatial ability are having better academic achievement than students who have medium and low spatial abilities, and students who have medium spatial abilities are having better academic achievement than students of low spatial ability; (3) On the students who have high spatial ability, the MMP modified learning model, the MMP learning model and conventional learning model produce similar student achievement. While the students who have medium and low spatial ability, the MMP learning modified model produce student achievement better than the MMP learning model and conventional learning model, and the MMP learning model produces student achievement better than the conventional learning model. Keywords: Learning Model, Missouri Mathematics Project, Spatial Ability.

Abstract

Abstract: The aim of the research was to determine the effect of learning models on mathematics achievement viewed from the student learning style. The learning models compared were TAI (Team Assisted Individualization), TGT (Teams Games tournament) and direct teaching learning. The type of the research was quasi-experimental research. The population was the students of junior high school  in Wonogiri regency on academic year 2013/2014. The size of sample was 234 students consisted of 77 students in the first experimental group, 76 students on the second experimenta groupl, and 81 students on the tirth experimental group. The instruments used were mathematics achievement test, questioner, and the likert scale instrument. The data was analyzed using analisis of variance two way.  Conclusions of the research were as follow. (1) the learning achievement of the students instructed with the TAI learning model is the same as that of the students instructed with the TGT learning model, and the learning achievements of the students instructed with the TAI learning model and that of the students instructed with the TGT learning model are better than that of the students instructed with the direct learning model; (1) the learning achievement of the students instructed with the TAI learning model is the same as that of the students instructed with the TGT learning model, and the learning achievements of the students instructed with the TAI learning model and that of the students instructed with the TGT learning model are better than that of the students instructed with the direct learning model; (2) the students with the visual, auditory, and kinesthetic styles have the same learning achievement in Mathematics; (3) in each learning model, the students with the visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning styles have the same learning achievement in Mathematics; and (4) in each learning style, the learning achievement of the students instructed with the TAI learning model is the same as that of the students instructed with the TGT learning model, and the learning achievement of the students instructed with the TAI learning model and that of the students instructed with the TGT learning model are better than that of the students instructed with the direct learning model. Keywords: TAI, TGT, direct learning, learning style, achievement

Abstract

ABSTRAK This study aim to describe the students’ thinking process of 9th grade of Junior High School has a high mathematics capability in solving the mathematics problem based on Polya rule. This study is qualitative descriptive research. The criteria of subject selection included the students’ has a high mathematics capability and communication fluency both spoken and written. The data collection was done using written test and task-based interview techniques. Data analysis done based on written test data and task-based interview techniques data. And then it has been done the method triangulation to get valid subject data. Finally, the result of description thinking process as follows: students with high mathematics capability, in understanding problem using assimilation thinking process, make a plan using assimilation and accommodation thinking process. Assimilation thinking process can be identified when the students can mention the prerequisite material, can directly relate the sides kite (BF = FG) and can directly develop problem solving plan. Meanwhile, accommodation thinking process can be seen when the students drew an auxiliary line from E to the right thereby intersecting with CD line (the intersection was labeled H point), so devided trapezoid AEDG become right triangle EHG and rectangle AEHD. In carrying out a plan and in looking back at the completed solution, the students used assimilation thinking process. Keywords: thinking process, mathematics problem, and problem solving.
