Abstract

ABSTRACT The research was aimed to analysis the integration of seed invigoration with rhizobacteria to improve the growth of Numbu and Kawali varieties of sorghum (Sorghumbicolor L.). The experiment design was a randomized block design arranged in Split-plot pattern. The main factor was sorghum varieties which consisted of 2 varieties ie. Numbu and Kawali. The sub plot was seed biomatriconditioning integrated with rhizobacteria treatments which consisted of 5 treatments, namely: control, seed biomatriconditioning with Bacillus sp. CKD061 + rice hulls charcoal, seed biomatriconditioning with Bacillus sp. CKD061 + red brick powder, seed biomatriconditioning with Pseudomonas fluorescens PG01 + rice hulls charcoal, and seed biomatriconditioning with P. fluorescens PG01 + red brick powder. Every treatment was replicated 3 times, therefore, overall there were 30 experimental units. Data obtained were analized using analysis of variance and followed by Duncan’s Multiple Range Test. The result of growth analysis showed that the interaction of both factors significantly influenced the leaf area index, plant growth rate, and net assimilation rate. In both varieties, seed biomatriconditioning with Bacillus sp. CKD061 or P. fluorescens PG01 using red brick powder or rice hulls charcoal were effective in increasing leaf area index, plant growth rate, and net assimilation rate of sorghum compared with untreated treatment. Keywords: biomatriconditioning, rhizobacteria, sorghum

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe objective of this experiment was to study the effect of foliar fertilizer type and mulch  type  on  the  growth  and  production of  red  spinach  (Amaranthus tricolor L.)  bisi variety. The experiment was conducted from July to September 2010 in the Village District Padaleu Poasia Kendari. The research was based on randomized block design (RBD) in the factorial pattern consisting of two factors, with three replications. The first factor was the type of foliar fertilizer which consisted of 4 levels: without foliar fertilizer (K0), Gandasil-D (K1), Bayfolan (K2), Seprint (K3). The second factor was the type of mulch which consisted of 3 types, namely: no mulch (M0), plastic black silver mulch (M1), and reed leaves (M2). The results showed  that  in  general the  interaction between foliar  fertilizer of  Bayfolan and plastic  mulch  (MPHP)  gave  a  significant  effect  on  the  growth  and  yield  of  red  spinach (Amaranthus tricolor L.) bisi variety. Keywords : Red Spinach, Foliar Fertilization Mulch

Abstract

ABSTRACTPineapple is one of the leading export commodities in Indonesia and grown in North Sumatra, South Sumatra, Riau, Bangka, Lampung, West Java and East Java. The main constraint of the cultivation of pineapple is wilt disease caused by plant parasitic nematodes. Research during the years 2008 has been done to study contribution of Pratylenchus brachyurus infection on wilting symptoms induction of pineapple on the pineapple plantation in the Village Bunihayu, Jalancagak district, Subang. The result showed Pratylenchus brachyurus dan P. coffeae (lesion nematode) were the dominant nematodes observed on the location which the community prevalence reached 82.50% and 17.50%. Mapping relationships of nematode populations at various levels of plant growth found that the two nematodes were contributing to the incidence and severity levels of wilt disease, especially in the generative phase of pineapple in the field. Keywords: Pratylenchus brachyurus, pineapple wilt, pineapple (Ananas comosus (l.) Abstract

ABSTRACTThe operation of groundwater irrigation requires additional cost for fuel and pump operators.    This,  therefore, require  careful cost  calculation in  order  to  obtain expected income.  For this purpose, the research was conducted to optimize the usage of irrigation water from one of wells at Watulawu, Pondidaha, to determine the most profitable crop species and cropping system.  The optimization was conducted using a linier program with QSB (Quantitative System Business) software, with the objective function was the maximum profit  of  farming  and  the  limiting  function  was  the  availability of  irrigation  water  and planting  size.  Out  of  optimized  crop  species  (rice,  maize,  groundnut,  and  soybean), groundnut and rice were the profitable crops.   Planting size for both species was varied during each  planting season, depending on  crop  water requirement and  rainfall.    Early cropping on March required less irrigation water than early cropping on February Keywords : Groundwater irrigation, QBS Software

Abstract

Pest is one of the constraints causing the decrease in the productivity of plants. One of the pests known as the most potential in causing the lost of cashew nut yield is Sanurus indecora. Generally, pest control still relies on the use of pesticides, while the other control methods such as biological control have not been applied optimally. The research of isolation, the effect of media and the use of Synnematium sp. to control S. indecora had been carried out from July to November, 2010. The objectives of this research were to know the pathogenic fungi infecting S. indecora in the field and the suitable media for their mass rearing, and to know the pathogenicity of Synnematium sp. on S. indecora. Test of the effects of media on the growth of Synnematium sp. consisted of five treatments and five replicates. Five kinds of media as treatment i.e: (1) PDA; (2) rice; (3) corn; (4) rice straw and (5) sago were arranged in complete randomized design. Test of the effects of spore concentrations of Synnematium sp. on mortality of S. indecora was conducted by using complete randomized design with five treatments and five replicates. Five concentrations of suspension as treatments were: control; 0.025 gml-1; 0.05 gml-1; 0.1 gml-1 and 0.2 gml-1. The results showed that the pathogenic fungus isolated from field infected S. indecora was Synnematium sp. The second experiment showed that the growth medium containing Rice Straw gave the best growth of Synnematium sp. colonies among the other treatments and 0.1 gml-1 of Synnematium sp. mycelium resulted in the highest mortality of S. indecora (57,5%) at 5 days after application. Key word: Cashew, Sanurus indecora, Synnematium sp.

Abstract

ABSTRACT The research was conducted in the Pugeran village, Yogyakarta in 2006.  The aims of this  research  were  to  know  the  morphology and  soil  characteristic.    Research  findings showed that the soil had many alluvial materials with different sizes (granular, rough and rather rough).  It was caused the activity of Merapi Mountain’s cold lava that was brought by river flow.   Observation and laboratory analysis indicated that some  soil characteristics were  soil color between 10 YR 2/2 and 10 YR 6/2, soil texture geluhan sand, pH (H20) 5,41-5,68, pH (KCl) 4,95-5,54, pH (NaF) 8,62-9,48 and organic materials 4,11%-9,44%.   The soil was dominated by brown and black colors, caused by the high content of organic materials in the inceptisol and entisol.   The soil texture” geluhan sand” was caused by the soil development and establishment processes that were not quite intensive.   The difference between pH (KCl) and pH (H2O) at all horizons in the profile had a negative value, with an interval of -0.15 to -1.35.  The negative value of the pH difference indicated that the soil in the observed area was dominated by negative content.   pH (NaF) was decreased by the increase of ”jeluk tanah”.  This was caused by the cleansing processes of iron and aluminum amorf in each soil horizon. Organic materials on the top horizon were higher than the other horizons.  This was because the top horizon received many organic materials coming from decomposed died plants and animals from higher areas.Keyword: Morphology, alluvial material, soil characteristic

Abstract

ABSTRACT The aim of the research was to know the effectiveness of actinomycetes and VAM inoculations in preventing the occurrence of infection of Sclerotium rolfsii on soybean at dry season.  This  research  was  conducted  at  the  Phytophatology Laboratory,  Mycology  sub- Laboratory of the Plant Protection Faculty of Agriculture, University of Brawijaya, and in the trial plantation of Balai Benih Induk Palawija, Lawang, Malang subdistrict.   This research used the Random Group Design (RGD) which consisted of two factors, namely (1) variety factor consisted of  Ratai, Kaba and  Burangrang; (2)  inoculum factor, that  were  without actinomycetes and VAM inoculation, inoculation with actinomycetes, inoculation with VAM, combined inoculation of actinomycetes and VAM. The research result showed that the combined inoculation of actinomycetes and VAM could control the level of attack in three soybean varieties with the highest control effectiveness. Keywords: Actinomycetes, VAM, soybean, Sclerotium rolfsii

Abstract

ABSTRACT A variety of methods are available for analysing repeated measurements data where the outcome is continuous. However, there is little information on how established methods is compared in practice with methods that have become available to applied statisticians more recently, and multilevel models. The aim of this paper was to exemplify the use of this method, and directly compare the results by the application of a hypothetical data set. The focus was on practical aspects rather than technical issues. The data considered were taken from a livestock trial of treatments for pasture in 20 chows, in which a baseline and four post-randomization measurements of outcomes were taken. The simplicity of the method of summary statistics using the post-randomization mean of observations provided a useful initial analysis.Key words: Analysis of variance, repeated measures, applying in broad aspects

Abstract

ABSTRACT The research was conducted to study seedling and growth of Brassica juncea applied with nutriflora liquid Fertilizer on hydrophonix system.  The experiment has been carried out from September to December 2010 at Anduonohu, Haluoleo University Campus. The research was arranged in a randomized blocked design with three replications and five liquid fertilizer dosages; 2,5 ml L-1  water, 5,0 ml L-1  water, 7,5 ml L-1  water, 10 ml L-1 water, and 12,5 ml L-1  water.     Characters observed were seedling percentage (%), vigor index, seedling dry weight (g), number of leaf, plant height (cm), fresh weight (g), shoot root ratio, and dry weight (g). The results of research indicated seedling and growth of Brassica juncea increased with application of nutriflora liquid fertilizer on hydrophonix system. The highest fresh weight of Brassica juncea occurred with the application of 7.5 ml L-1 water of nutriflora liquid ferlizer, and the highest dry weight of Brassica juncea occurred with the application10 ml L-1  water nutriflora liquid fertilizer.  Nutriflora liquid fertilizer applied significantly correlated with the fresh and dry weights. Keywords: seedling, growth, Brassica juncea, liquid fertilizer
