Abstract

In the previous studies, the influence of ElNino on significant waves was not able to be analyzed properly because the simulation model used did not cover the super ElNino period. Therefore, a new research needs to be done based on data in the period of super ElNino. Before analyzing, I assess the accuracy of wavewatch III (WW3) model significant wave by calculating correlation and root mean square error (RMSE) on significant wave of the altimeter satellite. The influence of ElNino on significant waves is obtained from the correlation between the oceanic nino index (ONI) 3.4 and the significant waves of WW3. I also calculate the ratio between significant wave composites of ElNino / LaNina and ElNino super events towards normal significant waves. The results show that theWW3 significant wave has good accuracy in Indonesian waters. ElNino and LaNina have a strong influence on significant waves in the Java Sea and Sunda Strait at period of December-January-February (DJF). ElNino (LaNina) is able to reduce (increase) the significant wave height until 30%to the normal condition in Java Sea and Sunda strait. In extreme cases, super ElNino is able to reduce a significant wave height until 50% to the normal condition.

Abstract

Effective foam composition has been produced as sound absorbing material based on sound absorption coefficient value. The method used is experimentation, by mixing the main ingredients (polyurethane) with the developer liquid (isocyanate). There are five variations of research, with the isocyanate as a control variable. The results obtained from the first to fifth variations in a row are 0.152; 0.072; 0.042; 0.028 and 0.056. From the findings it can be concluded that the less polyurethane is added the greater the absorption coefficient value so it is better to absorbs the sound.

Abstract

Radiation measurement calibration for ionizing radiation instrument is a compulsory procedure in hospitals and health facilities according to Minister of Health Regulation No. 54/2015. This study observed radiation measurement calibration in health facilities across East Java and was conducted at Surabaya Health Facilities Security Center (Balai Pengamanan Fasilitas Kesehatan Surabaya). The uncertainty and calibration factor were measured and calculated on 20 analog pocket dosimeters, 20 digital pocket dosimeters and 10 gamma surveymeters with reference sources of Cs-137. From 40 pocket dosimeters and 10 gamma surveymeters, only 1 analog pocket dosimeter was not feasible to use because its calibration factor was outside the allowed standard value.

Abstract

Diffusion is an important process in daily life, especially in the system of the human body. In this study, the diffusion process in human body system was studied using the compartments approach. The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of channel area, concentration, and diffusion coefficient on the rate of diffusion. Two compartments each sized were separated by a perforated barrier that represents areas of high and low concentrations, which were connected by a channel. Two Conductivity Probe sensors were placed in each compartment with the same distance to the barrierand were connected with a Vernier interface and a computer that hadLogger Lite 1.9.4 installed. The conductivity data is converted into concentration, then analyzed. The compartment model can be used to study diffusion process in the human body system. Diffusion rate is directly proportional to channel area, concentration and diffusion coefficient.

Abstract

Echoes in auditorium could be improved by adding absorbent materials. The consequence of this is an emerge of various sound distribution. Therefore, this article performs the combination of two functions of a material, i.e as resonator and diffuser (known as refuser"). Coconut shells are cut into rectangles with a size of 3 cm x 3 cm, and given holes in the middle of about 1 mm and arranged into mosaic. Then, mosaic is combined with rockwool to be a refuser. The tests involve two types of measurements, i.e determining the value of the absorption coefficient () and noise reduction (NR). These test method uses the impedance tube method to determine the ability of the refuser to absorb and isolate the sound. The results shows that the addition of the mosaic (coconut shells) is able to double the value of to 0.64 at a frequency of 250 Hz. In other words, the refuser could behave as a resonator. Furthermore, the refuser is able to increases the NR value at frequencies above 1000 Hz (30-40 dB) and able to be used as absorber sound at low frequency (250 Hz) and in higher frequencies (>= 1000 Hz).

Abstract

We investigate q-balls in the d=5 dimensional Minkowski spacetime background with axially symmetric ansatz. In this case, q-balls have non-zero angular momentum for spinning problems. We construct spinning q-balls in five dimensions and solve the solutions of second order elliptic partial differential equations both using analytical and numerical approach since no closed form of the equations following by appropriate boundary conditions. This work only considers the case with equal angular momentum rather than two different angular momenta. Passing the solutions, we discuss the global charge and their properties compared to Coleman q-balls. The solutions exist in some range of frequencies. The main features of q-balls are still recovered in this construction.

Abstract

In recent years, development of magnesium (Mg) as biodegradable implant very rapidly in orthopedic applications. This is due to its young’s modulus close to young modulus of natural bone. However, Mg implants demonstrate higher biological activity which could cause high degradation rate in human bio-environment. Consequently, needed to develop Mg-based alloys with superior corrosion performance. In the present study, it has been attempted to develop biocomposite of Magnesium Zinc-5% Hydroxyapatite (MgZn-5%HAp) as biodegradable bone implant. The biocomposites were prepared by adding 5wt.% powders to MgZn powder and then were sintered at temperature 350 oC in vacuum furnace for holding an hour. The characterization of MgZn-5wt%HAp biocomposite was examined by Scanning Electron Microscopy with Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (SEM/EDS) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) while corrosion tested by potensiostat. The SEM / EDS and XRD results indicated that some of the Zn atoms have dissolved in Mg to form a MgZn solid solution. The SEM results also showed that the MgZn-5%HAp biocomposite has a microstructure with a matrix Mg and HAp at the grain boundary. The presence of HAp in the sample resulted in a smaller crystallite size and corrosion rate compared to the one with MgZn alloy.

Abstract

The purification of wastewater from the gold mine from heavy metals in Batang Palangki, Sijunjung Regency has been carried out. Prior to the purification of this wastewater, water samples were first measured by heavy metal content using Inductively Coupled Plasma (ICP) and found 24 heavy metal elements of which 8 of them were above the standard threshold of water quality standards. Purification of water using adsorption technique with adsorbent activated carbon from banana kepok skin. This study used activated carbon with concentration concentration of 20%, 25%, 30%, and 35% H2SO4 activator. Activated carbons were added to the measuring cup containing 100 ml of gold mine wastewater, stirred to homogeneous and allowed to settle to the bottom of the measuring cup, then filtered water using filter paper, measured pH, heavy metal content and electrical conductivity values. Based on the research results, activated carbon with the most optimal absorption is at a concentration of 35% with the average pore size of activated carbon of 24.6 m. This data was obtained from the Inductively Coupled Plasma (ICP) tool by comparing the heavy metal content of wastewater before and after the activated carbon treatment. The purified water is in accordance with Minister of Health Regulation no. 416 / MENKES / PER / IX / 1990 on water quality requirements and Government Regulation no. 82 of 2001 on the Management of Water Quality and Control of Water Pollution.

Abstract

X-ray radiography is an imaging technique that utilizes continuous X-ray radiation that penetrates objects. This technique is a non-destructive technique that is widely used for nondestructive testing in industry and for diagnostics in health. This paper is reported the use of digital micro x-ray radiography equipment which was made by the Physics Department of FMIPA UGM to measure the density of plastic and acrylic materials. For this reason, phantom step wedge is made from acrylic and plastic materials. Density is calculated based on variations in the intensity difference that passes through the step wage phantom. Based on the computation, the result obtained acrylic density value of 0.79 ± 0.01 g / cm3 and plastic density of 0.92 ± 0.01 g / cm3. If the computation of the density value is directly compared to the value of density computation using digital radiography, the digital radiography density value is approxaimetely lower 34.18% for acrylic material and 23.91% for plastic material.

Abstract

Photoanode is one component of dye-sensitive cell solar (DSSC) which synthesized from metal oxide semiconductor materials with nanoparticle size that deposited onto the transparent conductive glass. The semiconductor material used must meet several criteria such as a wide surface and a high level of porosity so that it can absorb dye properly. One modification that is often done on DSSCs was to improve its performance by applying TiO2/ SnO2 to DSSC photoanodes. In this study, the performance of the synthesized DSSC with TiO2/SnO2 composites with both single and double layers structure will be compared to the performance of the synthesized DSSC from either photoanodes with a single layer structure of TiO2 or SnO2. The results showed that the high-efficiency of the DSSC could be achieved for both TiO2 and SnO2 single layer with value at 2.12 and 2.06%, respectively.
