Abstract

Feed is one of the production costs which accounts for 65% of the total production cost of sangkuriang catfish (Clarias sp.) cultivation, so there is a need for alternative feed ingredients that can reduce feed costs. The use of local raw materials in making feed can be an alternative in cultivation activities and is expected to reduce production costs. This study aims to determine the effect of feeding local raw materials with different proteins on the growth of catfish seeds and to analyze the cost of feed production. This research was conducted on March 20 to June 18 2020 at the Integrated Field Laboratory of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Lampung. The research design used was a completely randomized design with 4 treatments and 3 replications, namely feed A (32%), feed B (30%), feed C (33%) and feed D (36). The data obtained were analyzed by using the ANOVA test and followed by the Duncan test. The parameters observed in this study were absolute weight growth, daily growth rate, feed conversion ratio, survival rate, protein retention, water feed resistance, feed cost analysis and water quality. The results showed that D feed with 36% protein treatment had a significant effect on the feed conversion ratio of sangkuriang catfish. Feed D resulted in the lowest FCR of 0.58.

Abstract

Mangrove ecosystems in coastal areas play an important role in supporting physical, biological, and environmental economic functions. One of the alternatives to preserve the mangrove ecosystem is integrated area management. Bulaksetra Beach is a mangrove area located on the East Coast of Pangandaran which has the potential to be developed as an ecotourism area. The Edu-ecotourism area which combines conservation, education, research, and economy requires good and appropriate management. Analysis of land suitability, vegetation types and environmental conditions is important in making decisions and determining the feasibility of an area. Facilities and infrastructure are one of the elements and indicators that support the success of an Edu-ecotourism area. Observations on water conditions, types of mangrove vegetation, water substrate, weather and topography were carried out to determine the feasibility of developing facilities and infrastructure in the Bulaksetra area. The results showed that the Bulaksetra area was feasible to be developed into an Edu-ecotourism area with an average salinity measurement of 14 ppt, an average rainfall of 46.4 mm - 81.3 mm, a sandy mud substrate and a gentle topography. The zoning of the mangrove ecosystem was carried out based on the main mangrove vegetation in Bulaksetra, namely Avicennia alba and Rhizophora apiculata. The selection of vegetation in the landscape design is adjusted to the natural vegetation and topography in the Bulaksetra area. The supporting facilities for Bulaksetra Edu-ecotourism were designed include mangrove trekking, canoeing docks and mangrove galleries. Facilities are designed according to area size, landscape, and suitability of location. Further studies such as the selection of design and building materials, material costs, construction costs, operational costs and maintenance costs need to be carried out to determine the appropriate building construction. The development of Bulaksetra Edu-ecotourism facilities and infrastructure is expected to contribute to the development of the mangrove ecosystem so that it becomes a center for information, education, and conservation for the public, especially in Pangandaran Regency.

Abstract

The reduction of dependency on the consumption of giant prawns (Macrobrachium rosenbergii) from river catchments has essential significance for its natural sustainability. Artificial prawn reproduction gives benefits to the economy and the environment. Applicable maturation technology is needed to facilitate community participation in cultivating giant prawns. The increasing level of gonad maturity (TKG) in this study uses different natural feed in the form of golden snails, earthworms, and squid. Observation of giant prawn maturity was carried out using macroscopic morphological characteristics on the dorsal cephalothorax. All treatments were able to increase TKG from level 2 to level 3 for 30 days of treatment with golden snail intake, giving the fastest increase (7.33 ± 1.1 days) and followed by squid (11.3 ± 2 days) and earthworms (17.67 ± 2 days). Growth of giant prawns with golden snail, earthworm, and squid feed is 1.2, -4.33, -0.83 for weights and 1.03, 0.4, and 0.53 for length. The three natural foods can be utilized for the maturation of giant prawn gonads, but it is necessary to add a source of carbohydrates as energy intake.

Abstract

Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) is populer as resistant fish to environmental changes. Cultivating fish with a high stocking density can cause a decrease in water quality. It has an impact on susceptibility to disease due to decreased water quality. Immunostimulants from Phyto-pharmacy are needed to improve the non-specific immune system of fish from natural ingredients. Bay leaves (Syzigium polyanthum) have the potential to be used as an immunostimulant in fish. This study aimed to evaluate the extract of Salam leaves fortified in feed against the blood profile of Tilapia. The research was carried out in April - May 2018 using a completely randomized design (CRD) with 4 treatments and 3 replications. Salam leaf extract through feed affects the increase of leucocytes and blood erythrocytes of tilapia but does not affect hemoglobin levels and hematocrit levels. Doses of 2x10-2 g mL-1 increased fish blood leukocytes on day 21st to be the best treatment in this study.
