Abstract

Demographic analysis is an important part of electoral strategies. This paper will show that electoral candidates in Indonesian local elections intituitively make use of demographic mapping for formulating their electoral strategies to win the elections. However, they purposefully and selectively target only a set of particular demographic groups that provide them electoral gains while ignoring others. Religious, ethnic, and migrant divisions are seen as more important electorally than gender and rural-urban divisions. To mobilize these groups, they tend to develop non-policy-based or symbolic campaigns instead of formulating policy-based campaigns. As a result, in local elections, primordial issues are more prominent than policy issues. In the short run, demographic analysisis will stay as the main strategic electoral tool for these candidates. In the long run, however, this mode of analysis will have to compete against post-demographic modes of analysis that have started to gain traction among national and local politicians.

Abstract

Abstract

There are some interesting differences between the Family Planning Program in Indonesia and the family planning in Cairo Action Program. The FP Program has larger actions, such as the society's attention to the increasing age limit of marriage, family resistance building, increasing the family welfare, and birth control. While, the family planningin Cairo Action Program is only limited to the birthcontrol. This writing tries to describe those differences as well as to clarify the direction and the implementation of the FP Program which increasingly become an FP movement.

Abstract

Owners of rice fields in this research express their powerlessness/helplessness when their property is used by another party. This is so because right from the very beginning the government has been treating them unfairly. Such injustice/unfairness is manifested in the procedure, distribution, and the relationship between rice field owners and the government, especially PTPN. From the perspective of procedure, injustice arises from denying rice field owners the opportunity to become actively involved in the cooperation arrangement with the user of their fields (PTPN). From the perspective of distribution, the income of when the rice fields are operated by PTPN is generally lower than that obtained when the field owners operate them. From the vantage point of relationship, the feeling of injustice arises from the existence of a large social gap between the two parties. This research has emphasized on the farmers’ point of view. Nonetheless, results from other studies conducted in the same area, whether on the underlying public policy or history, came up with similar conclusions.

Abstract

Meta Analysis is fair statistical technique to integrate results of study have been done. This article integrates studies which explore relationship between age and job changes. This study found correlation value of age and job change over estimate by 4 % and its variance over estimate by 14 % before corrected by sampling error. Outlier of large sample size influences Meta Analysis result. If a study with large sample size has correlation value lower than mean of correlation of the other studies, that study will make the corrected value and variance correlation under estimate.

Abstract

The objective of this study is threefold. First, it uses fieldwork to explore the illegal journey of the Indonesian undocumented migrant workers, including all processes and interactions. Secondly, it identifies the substantive factors behind illegal influx into Malaysia. Thirdly, it draws out the implications from the illegal journey undertaken by them to Malaysia. This qualitative study applies the grounded theory approach. The result of this study shows that social capital within their network expands through various channels, particularly friendship, brotherhood, neighborhood, community and ethnic grouping. It also permeates strongly beyond government authority and regulation. They have constructed social classes among themselves. However, they have also been less able to get the social access because the absence of official documents deprives their human rights, and they are also blamed for social ills. Therefore, the regulation for both countries must recognize the rights, improvement governance, strengthen the integrity and curb corruption.
