Abstract

Action programs dealing with unemployment problems, beth by sector and intersector, which were done in the past and those will be done in the future seems are unable to overcome the problems. This is becauce most of the programs were less attracted to the excepted participants (the unemployed). Almost all of the education and training programs offered materials only at introduction level, while in the job seeking competition the preference is a person with a master qualification or on expert in a certain job. The shift of the unemployed characteristics, from the less educated to be an educated one will also simply the action programs' type and level of education and training. It means that the programs should be designed to produce a skilled person or a master on their jobs.

Abstract

Abstract

There is a gap of development achievement in Indonesia. At least it can be observed from human development index (HDI) in the period of 1996- 2002 which show a significant different across provinces. Among provinces in Java, Yogyakarta sit in the second position after Jakarta in the year of 1996 and 1999, but it became third rank in the year of2002. As it was in other provinces, the value of the index is still lower in 2002 compared to 1996, but higher than in 1999. It means the economic crisis which hit the country affect the human development a lot. In the same time among the district in the Yogyakarta province, the gap of HDI also appeared between the District of Gunung Kidul which the rank was 140 and the city of Yogyakarta which the rank was Q in 2002. Even the gap was higher in 1996 and 1999 because the rank of Gunung Kidul is 187 and 1965 respectively while it was 5 and 2 for the city of Yogyakarta. Gunung Kidul is also the area which was the most hit by the crisis as can be seen from the sharp decline in people's purchasing power. However this area experience faster recovery shown by the higher increase of purchasing power than other districts.

Abstract

Life satisfaction is a subjective construct that varies according to gender, education level, age, income, marital status, and other demographic factors. Life satisfaction is an important issue among middle-aged women. They face various responsibilities, roles and expectation at this age. The objective of this article is to identify the differences in life satisfaction among middle-aged Malay women from different educational level, marital status, career and income. This study applied a survey technique, which is a set of questionnaire which consisted of socio-demographic scale and life satisfaction scale (based on Life Satisfaction Index - Short Form by Barrette and Murk, 2006). Simple random sampling and purposive sampling have been used to obtain the responses. A total of 410 middle-aged career women in Hulu Langat, Selangor have participated in this study. The finding showed that life satisfactions among middle-aged women are different depending on their marital status, career and income. This was based on the result of ANOVA. Single women and widower who are working in private sector and of low-income level reported to have the lowest life satisfaction. This finding may provide input to the planning of programs to enhance the well-being and life satisfaction among middle aged career women.

Abstract

A financially constrained central goverment no longer has the capacity to fund major development projects throughout the country. Jakarta must look more to the regions for ideas, money and initiatives.Reforms are required in regional authority, and innational programmes-from rice to foods policies and transmigration-which have a regional impact. The "unity" of the last twenty years of strong central government has to be complemented more effetively by the "diversity" which flows from a greater emphasis inregional initiative and self reliance.

The observation and interview with some transmigrants in Karangsewu and Bugel found that the rate of prosperity since they joined the transmigration program was not yet promising. Abstract

This paper would like to see the role of UMKM (Usaha Mikro, Kecil, dan Menengah//W/cro, Small and Middle Scale Unit) in tackling poverty. The main superiority of UMKM in tackling poverty is in its ability to create working spaces. UMKM usually developed in the villages and created a new center of economical growth without eliminating the primary sector (agriculture). The developing of UMKM has been impeded since the government failed to understand the nature of UMKM itself. In framing the policies related to the development of UMKM, the government has misassumption the nature of UMKM and the problems they faced. In fact in general the development of UMKM needs a more conducive environment. The step should be taken by the government in this case is to be more convenience ingiving the information to UMKM. There should be an effort to increase the demand of the product by UMKM.

Abstract

This paper analyzes stagnation of fertility rate decrease in Indonesia. Population balance can be achieved by controlling fertility. Indonesian survey of demography and health in 2012, however, shows no significant difference of fertility rates from similar surveys in 2002 and 2007. In addition to that, there are factors such as the shifting political paradigm in the developing world, change of local governance, and institutional change that influence the stagnation of fertility rate decrease. This writing recommends ways to accommodate balance between democratic system and effective achievement. Besides, the decrease of fertility rate also requires serious commitment and determination of local government to participate. For this goal, sociological and cultural model can be used as an alternative to transform the behavior of society.
