Abstract

This study aims to determine the information behavior of reference librarians in meeting users' information needs at the Diponegoro University Library. The research method used in this study is a qualitative research method with a case study approach. Data collection techniques used in this study are observation, interviews, and documentation. Researchers have interviewed six informants. The data analysis method used is by using thematic analysis method. The results showed that the information behavior carried out by reference librarians in meeting users' information needs at the Diponegoro University Library can be seen when reference librarians can help users meet their information needs. Information behavior carried out by reference librarians in helping users meet their information needs can be done by providing reference services at the Diponegoro University Library, knowing and meeting users' information needs. Reference librarians can also assist users in meeting their information needs by guiding users on how to search for information by the information needs of users quickly and precisely.

Abstract

Persons with disabilities have a legal position and the same human rights as Indonesian citizens, including obtaining and utilizing public services. Library and archive services of Sumatera Utara as a public institution that is useful in meeting the needs of education, research, preservation, information, and recreation for visitors regardless of disabilities. This research was conducted to determine the library in facilitating persons with disabilities in physically accessing the library and special services for information sources on disabilities. Based on the objectives and form of the problem in this study, the research design uses mixed methods. The instrument used in this study was the itemS of the International Federation Library Association and Institution (IFLA) standard and supported by the interview questions to the informants. The results of this study explain that accessibility for persons with disabilities in the library has not fully met the criteria, with an average gain of 0.37 (almost inappropriate)

Abstract

The study investigated the extent of availability of Library Assistive Technology and its influence on library services quality as well as factors that impede its availability and application in Southwestern Nigeria Federal University Libraries. The study adopted descriptive survey research design while population comprised of all library users in the six federal university libraries in Southwestern Nigeria. 1,200 library users were selected using multistage sampling procedure. Questionnaire titled “Library Assistive Technology (LAT) and Service Quality” (LATSQ) was used to gather data analysed using mean, standard deviation and regression analysis. The decision rule was = 2.0 as high extent and 2.0 as low extent, the results showed that LATs were to a high extent available. The findings showed that the overall quality of service exhibited was very high. So also inadequacy power supply, internet facility, ICT infrastructure, settings of the furniture, staff knowledge of the operationalization of LAT, level of LAT skills, high cost of possessing LAT, cost of maintenance of LAT infrastructure, occasional breakdown of LAT facilities, and inadequate funds, The study concluded that the high quality of service delivered is not as a result of availability and usage of various types of library assistive technology.

Abstract

This research is conducted because of the low reading interest of Cikeruh I Public Elementary School students. The students spent more time playing than reading during their spare time. This research aims to build reading interest through "ABC Lima Dasar modifikasi" Games at Cikeruh State Elementary School I. The scope of this research is based on the traditional game modification strategy of learning, including modification of tools, improvement of game rules, change of learning approaches, and development of variations in skills. The research method used is action research. Data collection techniques to determine user needs are done by interview, observation, and literature study. While data collection techniques to assess user responses are done using a questionnaire. The results of the study showed that “ABC Lima Dasar modifikasi” Game in building up reading interest was under the needs and expectations of the school and was following the traditional learning game modification strategy by paying attention to four methods, including tool modification game rule modification, modification of learning approaches and development of skill variations. User responses after an action research study produced the fact that there was an increased interest in reading and library visits. The conclusion of this research is based on the traditional game modification strategy of learning to make students comfortable in playing, train students' skills, and make students interested in reading books in the library.

Abstract

Higher education libraries generally provide library material collection needs for non-disabled users, while disabled users also need the same. The purpose of this study was to determine the policy governance of the development of the UPT library at Sebelas Maret University, Surakarta, which was friendly and inclusive, and student responses to the policy governance of the development of the UPT library at Sebelas Maret University, Surakarta, which was pleasant and inclusive. The research method uses qualitative and quantitative descriptive involving 33 respondents. Researchers used questionnaires and interviews to obtain data. The results of this study indicate that the management of library UPT development policies includes information resource management policies, collection development for disabled users, and facilities and infrastructure policies for disabled users. The results of student responses to information resource management policies are high, 63.6%, responses to collection development policies are medium, 36.4%, and answers to facilities and infrastructure development policies are very low, 54.5%. Overall, the student response to the policy of developing the UPT library at Sebelas Maret University, Surakarta, which is disability-friendly and inclusive, is shallow, at 39.4%. The conclusion from these results is that the development of the Disabled and Inclusive UNS Library UPT is essential for improvement, especially policies in the field of facilities and infrastructure.

Abstract

The study examined the awareness and use of social media platforms among undergraduate law students in universities in Osun State. It also investigated the extent to which  gender, age, level of study  and awareness of social media platforms influence the use of social media platforms among respondents. The study adopted a descriptive survey research design. The study population comprised undergraduate students in faculties of law in three selected universities in Osun state.  The instrument for data collection was the questionnaire. Five hundred and twenty seven (527) respondents participated in the study. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics, Pearson Product Moment Correlation and multiple Regression Analysis.   The results of the study revealed that respondents exhibited a low level of awareness and use of social media platforms. WhatsApp was found to be the most popular and utilised social media platform. The study also revealed that social media platforms were used mainly for online trading and seeking general knowledge about doing business. The study revealed that use of social media platforms had no significant relationship with gender (r = -.018, p 0.05), age (r = 0.011, p 0.05) and level of study ( r =  0.034, p 0.05), but had significant positive  relationship with awareness of social media platforms ( r = 0.234,  p 0.05). In addition, the study revealed that a combination of gender, age, level of study and awareness of social media platforms significantly influenced the use of social media platforms among respondents. (F = 7.507, df = 4: 522, p 0.05). Awareness of social media platforms (β = 0.237, t = 5.397, p 0.05) was found to be the only significant predictor variable in the use of social media platforms among respondents. It was concluded from the study that gender, age, level of study and the awareness of social media platforms significantly influenced the use of social media platforms among undergraduate law students in universities in Osun state, Nigeria. It was recommended that these factors be taken into account by university administrators when making policies on the use of social media in the university system.

Abstract

Pandemi Covid-19 memberikan tantangan kepada seluruh pihak dalam berbagai aktivitas manusia khususnya pendidikan. Pelaksanaan pembelajaran jarak jauh menjadi salah satu solusi yang tepat untuk kegiatan belajar mengajar saat ini. Informasi yang terus bertambah dapat menjadi bantuan atau bahkan kerugian karena penumpukan informasi. Hadirnya pembelajaran jarak jauh dan berkembangnya informasi yang begitu cepat pada saat ini memberikan dampak pada siswa, salah satunya kendala belajar. Kendala belajar memiliki dampak negatif terhadap perkembangan kompetensi dan pengetahuan siswa. Penelitian     ini menggunakan metode kuantitatif deskriptif dengan analisis rating scale meliputi perhitungan nilai indeks minimum, nilai indeks maksimum, inteval, jarak interval dan presentase skor, serta analisis data yang dibantu IBM SPSS Statistics 25. Manajemen informasi pribadi dapat menjadi salah satu solusi untuk menanggulangi masalah yang sedang dihadapi penggunanya. Hasil penelitian mengungkapkan bahwa aktivitas manajemen informasi pribadi siswa tergolong baik, akan tetapi perlu adanya peningkatan dan perhatian lebih khususnya tahap penyimpanan, pengorganisasian, dan pemeliharaan untuk kesuksesan proses temu balik informasi. Manajemen informasi pribadi juga memiliki hubungan dan pengaruh positif terhadap kendala belajar siswa saat pandemi Covid-19.

Abstract

Libraries now need to be cooperated along with the use of information systems. This information system has been widely applied and has succeeded in helping library services as well as facilitating library management while at the same time attracting more people to use the library which will bring various benefits to them. The DeLone and McLean model is a model that has 6 evaluation variables, namely: system quality, information quality, service quality, system use, user satisfaction and net benefits. The use of this model can help determine the success and success of the information system contained in the Universiti Malaysia Pahang library. With the use of this model, it is hoped that it will be known where the stage of this library information system is. The results of the study show that the quality and success of information systems plays an important role in ensuring that user satisfaction is achieved. Basically, users feel happy and satisfied with the information system provided. And it is hoped that this study can be a guide to making good decisions for the library and be a guide for future research.

Abstract

This study aims to explain technostress disturbances in librarians due to technological developments in libraries that are too dynamic, as well as other challenges in the form of librarian readiness in facing the times. This study also uses the literature study method by reviewing relevant literature sources such as books, printed scientific journals, and electronic versions, as well as selected online information sources. The results of this study explain that technostress disturbances in librarians can be seen from five dimensions, namely techno-overload, techno-investment, techno-complexity, techno-insecurity, and techno-uncertainty. Technological developments in the library can be seen in the new challenges for librarians who require new skills in the field of technology, among others; integrated library systems, emerging web technology, electronic resource management, web page development, institutional repositories, and database management. The benefit of this study is librarians need to regulate the rhythm of work by increasing competence in the field of information technology and addressing the development of information technology wisely as an opportunity to improve the quality of library services in the future.

Abstract

While many researchers have investigated the adoption and use of information systems in academic libraries, one section has not been thoroughly researched, particularly in public libraries that have adopted the use of information systems. Now public libraries have started to use or subscribe to any existing information system in line with the needs of the local community. The purpose of this paper is to identify and obtain information regarding the suitability or achievement of information system services used in public libraries using the Delone and Mclean information system success model. The method of data collection is to use an online survey questionnaire to obtain primary sources from the general public around. The findings of the investigation showed that the system quality, information quality, service quality, usage, user satisfaction and net benefits showed significantly good and satisfactory results and this further indicated that the information system service in public libraries was achieved. The results can help librarians to improve the information systems used so that their information system services can be improved to the maximum stage.
