Abstract

Abstract

Intercropping system is a double cropping, involving the growing of two or more crops sequentially or delaying of growing period of a crop. Effect of intercrop competition on the utilization of solar radiation, water, mineral nutrients, and space to grow can cause yield losses. This study was aimed to evaluate the effect of organic matter and planting time in intercropping system of peanut and maize on growth and yield. The research was carried out at the Experimental Farm of Haluoleo University in 2008 and was laid out in a Split Plot Design with three replications. The treatment consisted of two factors, organic matter as main plot and planting time as subplot. Results showed that interaction between organic matter and planting time had significant effect on seed number of maize, pod number of peanut , weight of 100 seeds of peanut, and yield and harvest index of maize and peanut.

Abstract

The potential of extremely halophilic archaea degrading hydrocarbon in hypersalin environment is reviewed. The emphasis is on the last 30 years studies. The identification of extremely halophilic archaea is important as this type of prokaryote is predominant in the hypersaline environment with NaCl concentration higher than 20% (w/v). Recent studies have shown that extremely halophilic archaea especially those belong to Halobacterium, Haloarcula, and Haloferax might play an important role in hydrocarbon degradation in hypersaline environment. Other that can be found in pristine and hydrocarbon-contaminated hypersaline environment, member of these genuses are also capable of using hydrocarbon as source of energy and carbon.

Abstract

This research was conducted to see the effect ofsolarflare and Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) on geomagnetic and ionosphere above Tanjungsari, Sumedang, West Java. By using Disturbance storm time (Dst) index data for geomagnetic disturbance parameter and critical frequency (fo) of F2 ionosphere layer data for ionosphere disturbance parameter; a graph was plotted between occurrence off lare and CME with Dst index andf oF2 from year 2000 to 2003. The result found thatf lare and CME affect disturbance on geomagnetic caused a geomagnetic storm and disturbance on ionosphere cause an ionosphere storm. Those storms were depended by flare class, CME type, and its position on the sun when they happened Flare and CME event that happened also required time to reach the Earth.

Abstract

This study aimed at describing the role of Fisheries Civil Servant Investigators (PPNS) in the law process of Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) fishing in Indonesia. It utilized a descriptive qualitative method to analyse the primary and secondary data, which had been collected through interviews, observations and FGDs from a purposively chosen sample with a juridis normative approach. Definitively, IUU fishing is the act of fishing within the Indonesian, other country’s jurisdiction, or the open waters without permit, not reported, and not regu- lated. The law No. 45 year 2009 concerning the amendment of Law No. 31 Year 2004 on Fisheries stated that there are three sorts of law enforcers who have the rights to conduct investigations on offense in the fisheries sectors: the Civil Servant Investigators, the Navy Investigating Officers and the National Police Investigators. Despite the fact that the Civil Servant Investigators have been playing an active role in the law enforcement, especially for the IUU fishing cases, the function has not yet been very effective due to the lack of inter-institution coordination as well as communication among the law enforcers. Hence, matching perception, investigation mechanism as well as enforcement among the law enforcers are of utmost importance to alleviate the effectiveness of combat against IUU Fishing in Indonesia.
