THE EXPRESSIONS OF DIRECTIVE SPEECH ACTS IN THE FILM ENTITLED “MARY QUEEN OF SCOTS” FILM (A PRAGMATICS APPROACH) Nataliya Nataliya; Sri Marmanto

This research was conducted to find out the types of directive speech acts in the film entitled Mary Queen of Scots, the way the speakers expressed those types, and the reasons underlying the speakers to utter those types. This research uses Pragmatics approach. This study was designed with descriptive research. The analyzed data were all the dialogs which expressed the types of directive speech acts of Mary Queen of Scots film. The total sampling technique is used in taking the data analysis. The researcher analyzed the data found in the film based on problem statements. First, the findings are as follows 6 types of directive speech acts consisting of Command, 13 data (42%), Request 3 data (16%), Question 9 data (30%), Suggestion 2 data (6%), Prohibition 1 datum (3%), and Warning 1 datum (3%). Second, three ways of expressing politeness strategies are used by the characters in Mary Queen of Scots. They were Bald On-Record, Positive Politeness, and Off-Record. At last, the reasons characters expressed the directive speech act were to show hearer’s duty, to show anger expression, to respect the hearer, to seek agreement, and find the reason for uttering certain expression. The purpose of this study is to describe how Metrojambi.com as one of the media online reporting cases of violence against women. This research is qualitative research. Techniques of data collection using techniques refer and note assisted by data collection tables. Data analysis was performed with a description of perspective analysis of Sara Mills. Based on the research results, it can be concluded that from news of violence against women in the case of rape in media online Metrojambi.com published from August 2016-October 2018, construct women as subject, not as object of exploitation. However, in its presentation, women are still described as marginal, weak, defenseless and sensitive. Metrojambi.com's online media positions the reader as an ideological subject. This article aims to escribe the types of speech acts, such as illocution and to tell the function of perlocusion in the Teh Pucuk Harum commercial. In addition, this article also aims to describe the reaction of the audience of the Teh Pucuk Harum commercial. There are three stages in this research; they are (1) observation stage, which involved ‘simak bebas libat cakap’ method, the ‘cakap’ method, and the ‘catat’ technique. (2) the analyses stage include illocution, locution, ad perlocution. (3) the last stage is to describe the result in an informal way. From the analyses, it is known that in the perlocution acts, there are directive speech act, where the illocution only gives information. Meanwhile, the result gathered from the interview shows that the audience were attracted to the Teh Pucuk Harum commercial because it has the morale value to work together to achieve a good hope. Subjectivity is a philosophical concept of how one, as a subject, gains the sense of identity through the interaction with the external world. The theorization on the conception of subjectivity itself has ranged from the early modern thinkers to post-modern thinkers. This research’s objectives are to describe the struggle of Stephen Dedalus, the main character in James Joyce’s novel entitled A Portrait of The Artist As A Young Man, to gain his identity as a form of subjectivity, and to describe how the model of subjectivity is reflected through the character of Stephen Dedalus. This research is a descriptive qualitative library research with philosophical approach using Descartes, Kant, Freud and Lacan theories. From the analysis, first, it is found out that Stephen Dedalus underwent a journey of figuring himself out through a series of events that profoundly shape his sense of identity. The involvement of many external factors like the field of art, religion, and nationality is important in constructing Stephen Dedalus’ subjectivity. Secondly, by taking into account the theorization on the idea of subjectivity from the early modern philosophers such as Rene Descartes and Immanuel Kant, to the post-modern philosophers such as Sigmund Freud and Jacques Lacan, it can be seen that Stephen Dedalus’ stream of consciousness as the main tool in perceiving his journey of life embodies the early modern conception that subjectivity is grounded on one’s independent consciousness. AbstractOne of the most basic language capacities is the ability to express what the speaker sees, hears, feels, tastes, and kisses. Linguistic Anthropology is an interdisciplinary study of how language in a community is not only the logic of a linguistic system but also how speakers express something using language. The use of lexicon contains abstractions of cultural values and norms in the form of language which contain meaning, purpose and message. The purpose of this study is to identify the type and meaning of the lexicon as a tool used in the traditional event of ngendang. This research is descriptive qualitative. The data of this study were taken in the Batujai village - Praya using the interview method, observation and receiving information about the meaning of the lexicon as a tool used in the traditional event of Ngendang through informants. The researcher found 15 kinds of the tools used in traditional event of ngendang, and every tool has a lexicon that contains meaning, message and hope for sasaknese in Batujai village. Public health service advertisements (PHSA) tend to provide information, remind, add value, influence, and even change people's attitudes to healthy living. The purpose of this study was to determine the style of language, meaning, and public health service advertising ideology. The results of this study showed that; (1) the Public Health Service Ads (PHSA) language style, (2) the diction or word choice used tends to be informal, general, brief and understandable by ordinary learned societies. Regarding the tone contained, the narrative text had a simple language style, usually suitable to give instructions, commands, lessons, lectures, and the like. From the meaning point of view, semiotic meaning came from the relation between signifier and signified or it was the meaning of connotation. The ideology that lied behind sourced from the resulting connotation. The way to express imperatively as well as the use of symbols, colors, backgrounds (sign) such as thermometers; for instance. This has determined that PHSA concerned with hygiene, health, precautions, caution, caring, togetherness, planning, prosperity, and happiness.Keywords: PHSA, language style, meaning, ideology
