This research is motivated by the researcher's interest in the "Downy" clothing fragrance advertisement poster which has a variety of different themes so that they want to find out more about the meaning of the depiction on the advertisement poster. The purpose of this study is to describe the representation of women on the "Downy" branded clothing fragrance advertisement poster. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method. The data collection method used in this research is the referential method. The technique used to analyze the data is the matching technique with the informal presentation method. The data is taken from the advertisement poster for the clothing fragrance "Downy" with the theme of women with a different appearance taken from the Facebook "Downy Indonesia". The theory used in this study is the semiotic theory of Charles Sander Peirce to examine icons, indexes, and symbols or commonly known as trichotomy theory. The results of the analysis show that the advertising poster for "Downy" clothing fragrances represents women as innocent, beautiful and feminine. Women also appear elegant, luxurious and confident with expensive fragrances. In addition, a woman when she becomes a mother will protect her family from everything, including everything that will be used by the family. Through the representation of women on each advertising poster, the product has succeeded in introducing and influencing consumers, especially women, to use “Downy” clothing fragrance.Keywords: semiotics, Peirce, Downy advertising, representation, women.

The study aims to determine the value of character education and the concept of RA Kartini’s education in collection of folktale volume four. The research method used is descriptive qualitative. The data source for this research is a collection of folktales volume four. The data collection technique used is text analysis. The data in this study were analyzed by reading the entire content of the folktale, marking and identifying the character education values and educational concept of RA Kartini contained in the folktale. The next step is to analyze and conclude the result of the analysis of the value character education and concept of RA Kartini’s education. The result showed that the value of character education and concept RA Kartini’s education, which was seen through the words of character, events and behavior of the character in volume four folklore were seen in five aspects of the value of character education including religious, mutual cooperation, independence, integrity, and nationality. While RA Kartini’s five educational concept include women as the first educators, women as carriers of civilization, education that educates the main and soul, gender equality, and love for the homeland. That’s because this fourth volume of folklore can be used as an increase of character values so that it can be applied in everyday life. The five educational concepts of RA Kartini in this folklore can be described as that women have the same rights and obligations in world civilization.Keywords: the value of character, RA Kartini’s concept education, folktale

The short story of The Circuit substantially carries on the American Dream from the immigrants’ expectations living in California. Their expectations rely on spirituality, wealthy, freedom, and other life necessity aspects. This research reviewsthe protagonist character as written in Francisco Jiménez’s The Circuit and applies for the content analysis method. Data collection primarily uses the short story of Jiménez’s The Circuit as part of the philology research. Data analysis deals with the intrepretative approach by identifying and mapping the life of a migrant child in 1947 documented in The Circuit facts. The findings showed that the protagonist characters tightly correspond with the life of a-4-year-old Panchito, who is conditionally forced to work with his parents as the nomad fruit picker in the entirely ready-harvesting plantation areas of California Federal State with a very low wage granted and dwell in inappropriate housing. Panchito’s protagonist character addresses a positive and tough motivation in happening his dreams that trigger the expansive morality values toward life struggles. The accuracy in pronouncing phonemes is an important thing to pay attention to because it is directly related to the meaning of the utterance. This study aims to describe the form of phoneme pronunciation disorders in Javanese experienced by children with speech delays. The data source of this research is the speech or utterance of Radit Budi Prasetyo (RBP) in speech activities. The data of this research are words and phrases in Javanese which are assumed to experience phoneme pronunciation errors in the utterances produced by RBP. This research is qualitative research with a descriptive method. The approach used is a neurolinguistic approach. The results of this study indicate that there are pronunciation problems that arise in the RBP language process. This disturbance is manifested by the error of pronouncing phonemes in Javanese. The spelling error is manifested by adding, removing, and replacing phonemes. These three things almost happened in every phoneme position, both in front, center, and behind the morpheme. Phoneme replacement is the most dominant aspect. Meanwhile, removing and adding phonemes only occurs in a few phonemes. Keywords: phonem, speech delay, neurolinguistics

This research is a research on the analysis of prose literature in the novel "Islammu Is Maharku" by Ario Muhammad. This study specializes in literary studies based on a mimetic approach. The mimetic approach is an approach that examines literary works based on their relationship to reality or reality in life. The author chooses cultural elements based on the mimetic approach in this study. The research method used descriptive qualitative and then the data were analyzed by interactive analysis. The purpose of this study is to describe the cultural elements in the novel "Islammu is Maharku" by Ario Muhammad with a mimetic approach. The results of the discussion describe the cultural reality of Taiwan based on: (1) The religious system, some believe in God and some are anti-God; (2) The social system and social organization, the existence of a society that has a high work spirit, many women who are reluctant to marry, and Muslim life in Taiwan; (3) Knowledge systems, knowledge of the world for example the seasons; (4) Language, Indonesian, English, Mandarin, but some have been changed into Indonesian by the author; (5) the arts, the beauty of the landscape and the buildings of the city of Taiwan; (6) Livelihood system or economic system, mostly as students and lecturers; and (7) Live equipment systems or highly advanced technology.Keywords: novel, culture, taiwan, mimetics

CRITICAL DISCOURSE ANALYSIS: EXPERIENTIAL FUNCTION OF THE OPEN UNIVERSITY ELEARNING CLASSROOM Rakhmat Wahyudin Sagala

The transition from face-to-face to online education might be delayed not just by the needed computer abilities, but also by shifting self-concept requirements for instructors. The goal of this study was to expand existing knowledge of the phenomena of Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) in e-learning classrooms that emphasize experiential function. The subjects were undergraduate students of the English Department who enrolled in Indonesia Open University elearning classroom. The objectives of the study are : 1) to identify the types of discourse in experiential function used by tutor online and students ; 2) to analyze the experiential function used by tutor online in elearning classroom ; 3) to investigate the types of discourse in experiential function dominantly used by tutor online and students. Descriptive qualitative research was implemented to reveal the data from discourse of online tutor and students in e-learning classrooms. The finding provides tutor online and students perform experiential function in their discourse in the process of teaching-learning in the classroom. There were 35 clauses found in the discourse including process, participants, and circumstances. Types of experiential function used by online tutor and students of Indonesia Open University were 1) Participant such as Actor, Goal, Senser, Phenomenon, Possessor, Possessed, Sayer, Verbiage and Carrier, 2) Process such as Material, Mental, Relational and Verbal, 3) Circumstance such as Location, Manner, Cause and Matter. More specifically, critical discourse analysis exists and incorporates textually and contextually communication signals. Hence, online tutors and students frequently employ some forms of experiential function in their e-learning conversations. This scientific article examines the metaphors and meanings contained in song lyrics by Banda Neira. This writing uses a qualitative method with a semantic approach, which is focused on the metaphor of Parera. Based on data analysis, this research can be concluded from the attractiveness factor of song lyrics, the existence of meaning of life in each song's lyrics. In the lyrics of the song The Broken Growing Missing There are anthropomorphic and abstract metaphors to the concrete. Flower song lyrics there are abstract to concrete metaphors. The lyrics of the song Matahari Pagi have abstract metaphors to the concrete, anthropomorphic, and soap operas. The most dominant type of metaphor, namely abstract to conclusive metaphor. The meaning of the song lyrics by Banda Neira is the meaning of the aspect of life sacrifice.Keywords: song lyrics, Banda Neira, metaphor
