Abstract

The objective of this study is to examine the determinants of labor absorption in the trade, hotel and restaurant sector and its impact on Gross Regional Domestic Product/GRDP at Bali Province. This study is important due to the fact that the GRDP in this sector is the highest compared to other sector but the labor absorption is lower than the agriculture sector. This study used panel data comprising 9 regencies/cities at Bali Province in the period 2003-2009 including fixed effect model and simultaneous equation model of Two-Stage Least Square. The results showed that GRDP, working age population, and the minimum wage have positive effect on employment, while the educated unemployment has no significant effect on the employment in the trade, hotel and restaurant sector. In addition, increases in employment and workers productivity have positive and significant effects the GRDP in the trade, hotel and restaurant sector at Bali Province.

Quantitatively growth rate of research unmatched with retirement rate, resulted changing age structure tend to older age.Size limitation and lack of available data about utilization research facilities still not solved completely. Based on evaluation made by KRT, in macro, set up of condition and usage facilities lie near 50% to 75%. However, research facilities administrator still not satisfied yet with utilization of research facilities they managed. Other research facilities problems are slow supply, limited maintenance fund and lack of available spare parts.

Abstract

The research was conducted in Pinrang district with the aim to analyze the potential and problems in irrigation management. Data were collected by interview method on the P3A advisers and FGD to the members of six elected P3A. Data were analyzed descriptively about resources, organizations, and the rules of irrigation management. The results showed that the organization of P3A less functional because there is no coordination between P3A and GP3A, including the duplication guidance of District offices of Irrigation and Agriculture, the utilization of water resources is inefficient because of silting in the secondary channel, water gate set freely by farmers, some tertiary channels damaged or turned off by the farmers, many farmers who make a shortcut channel, lack of watergate regulator; there are no sanctions imposed for who make shortcut and turn off channels. The members of P3A should be involved on every policy process making in the field of irrigation.

Abstract

Coastal communities are known to prone to vulnerability arising from their nature of work. As they are mostly working as fishermen, natural hazards, isolation and climate variabilities are often constraining their ability to obtain sufficient income to support their livelihood. Hence, finding sustainable alternatives source of income is a sensible way to cope with such uncertainty and vulnerability. Achieving sustainable income, nevertheless, is challenging issue since it is affected by various factors from socio-economic as well as institutional perspectives. This paper is an attempt to assess the issue of alternative livelihood by identifying key variables affecting its sustainability. A MICMAC method was used and key variables from the analysis were then identified to support sustainable alternative livelihood in the communities. Lessons learned were also drawn from this study for policy makers and fisheries authorities in the regions.

Abstract

Capital expenditure allocation is aimed to preservation and expansion of local government fixed assets that provide long-term benefit. This paper investigates the factors that affect the capital expenditure allocation in Indonesian local government. Employing a panel pooled data-regression (fixed effect), our results reveal that local productivity, local funding, local budget requirement, and local establishment status are related to the value of capital expenditure. We found that efficiency of capital expenditure management is related with fiscal dependence.

Abstract

The purpose of this study identify inhibiting factors that make the program Inka Mina did not reach goal. The study uses regression analysis and correlation analysis. Correlation analysis results indicate that the strong correlation between the number of aid ships with determining factors such as the potential for fisheries, the number of fishermen, the amount of production, the number of ship, number of KUB, and the fishing port. Regression analysis results indicate that amount of aid ships in a region is in accordance with the elements set out in the technical guidance. However, a strong correlation does not necessarily determine the success of this program, because there are other factors that have not been considered (qualitative factors) , such as culture one day fishing on coastal communities, peoples habits (gear and type of size), transfer knowledge, and other factors. Assessment for this problem, government should consider the culture aspect.

Abstract

About 58,83 percent of Salatiga population consumes water from PDAM (Peru- sahaan Daerah Air Minum) to fulfill their daily need. The demand for water, which is increasing in line with infrastructure development and economics growth in Salatiga while the availability of water is decreasing, lead to a lack of water in some regions in Salatiga. Therefore, a new policy is needed to solve this problem. Before that, a simulation of the policy is needed because it is not possible to do a direct research on the policy. Thus, this recent study attempts to model the phenomenon of demand for water in Salatiga with dynamics system approach since it can be used for a policy simulation. Based on the simulation result, it is suggested to solve the water scarcity problem by trying to reduce the rate of leaking in water distribution from 26 percent to 5 percent.

By using quota sampling, a number of 100 fishers were selected as the sample of the study. Data analysis applied multiple regression and discriminant analysis. Results of the study verified that gender, education, and number of family were the variables which influenced the degree of fishers participation while age and income did not influence significantly. In addition, age, gender, education, number of family, and income were the independent variables which able to discriminate the intensity of fishers participation.

Abstract

This writing to see problem of real income, inflation, and interest rate in money demand function. There are some perception similarities that money demand largely depends on the income or GNP (Gross National Product), besides other factors involved, like interest and inflation rates. However, to make and estimation about money demand in and economic system, it will involved some interrelated problems. (I) The definition of the most suitable money, (2) argumentation about money demand function, (3) the stability of the function statistically from period to period. The writer persons a study model from M. Semudram with OLS (Ordinary Least Square) method towards function in the form of log linear where the variable inserted is the demanded sum of nominal money, consumers price index, nominal GNP, interest rate, and inflation rate.
