Abstract

Past experiences indicate that the success of many farm forestry projects is mainly influenced by farmers’ participation. Ex ante estimation of the likelihood of farmers’ participation in a particular farm forestry project might reduce the risk of project failure. This article is to analyze, ex ante, factors affecting a farmer’s participation in a hypothetical farm forestry project for climate change mitigation based upon a survey data of 117 farm forestry farmers in Tempurejo Village, Wonosobo Regency. Logit estimation suggests that the likelihood of a farmer’s participation is likely affected by age of farmer, education, farm household size and farmer’s experience in farm forestry business. Two policies implication of these findings are that government should increase farmers’ knowledge of climate change through extension programs, such as climate field school, and align the design of farm forestry projects for climate change mitigation with the prevailing farm forestry management system practiced by farmers.

Abstract

A study of spatial disttribution of urban failities and its impact on settlement pattern had been conducted. Southern part of Surakarta Municipality is chosen as study area. The aim was to study the correlation between spatial distribution of urban public facilities and settlement pattern. To obtain the settlement pattern and urban facilities distribution, manual photo interpretation and field survey method were used. The data were analyzed using geographi information system and statistical analysis tools. Map overlay module in the P Ar/ Info was used in order to join each variables of this research. To know the correlation between spatial distribution of urban facilities and settlement pattern, the multiple regression technique was used. The result shows that there was a positive signifiant relationship between urban public facilities distribution and settlement pattern. It means that the more distributed of urban publi facilities the better of settlement pattern (dense – uniform – large size building). Finally, condition of settlement pattern depends on how the goverment was able to manage the distribution of urban failities.

Abstract

Abstract

The technical Remote Sensing and Geographic Information System (GIS) had been used to detet vegetation changing of natural forest due to management differences. The target of the study were to determine classification method of satellite imagery in operational scale so that the method can be transfered and applicable for the user. The studied was done at forest concession of PT SLJ-IV (Sumalindo Lestari Jaya-IV), Yanjung Redeb, east Kalimantan Province. Landsat TM with 7 bands and high resolution of 1994 and 1996 were used to differentiate the condition before and after cutting in 1995. The analysis of the Landsats were only in the area where the TPTI (Indonesian Selective Logging System) and TPTI (Indonesian Strip Logging System) system applied. Based on the analysis and field check, it was found that the impact of logging caused decreasing dense forest about 21,3% and inreasing secondary forest around 6,3%. The highest dynamic of each band was band first and the lowest was band second. The differences in the mean of 2 band will give a more clear appearance of the  imagery.

Abstract

The objective of this study is to understand the influence of meteorological conditions of logva water availability in karst area, Gunungkidul Regency. Meteorological condition analysis was determined by creating meteorological water balance using Thornthwaite Mather method. Water availability condition was determined by using multi-temporal images. Then, the result of water balance was matched with the logva water availability derived from multi-temporal images. The result shows that meteorological conditions will influence logva water availability in karst area, Gunungkidul Regency. It was shown by comparing the amount of logva in surplus months and deficit months. The amount of logva in surplus months is more than in deficit months. In addition, the longer meteorological water deficit, the amounts of detected logva decreases. Based on that condition, it means that meteorological water balance analysis can be used to plan disaster mitigation based on the time and duration of deficit months.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze land use changes in the Kelara watershed and to assess the suitability of current land use changes with the spatial planning regulation of Jeneponto within Kelara basin. This study integrates various survey techniques, remote sensing, and geographic information system technology analysis. Geospatial information used in this study consists of Landsat ETM 7+ satellite imagery (2009) and Landsat 8 (2014) as well as a number of spatial data based on vector data which is compiled by the Jeneponto Government. Remote sensing data using two time series (2009 and 2014) are analyzed by means of supervised classification and visual classification.  The analysis indicated that land use type for the paddy fields and forests (including mangroves) converted become a current land use which is inconsistent with the spatial planning regulation of Jeneponto. The use of land for settlement tends to increase through conversion of wetlands (rice fields). These conditions provide an insight that this condition will occur in the future, so that providing the direction of land use change can be better prepared and anticipated earlier.

Abstract

Increased of the number of visitor at Gelatik Cave is a challenge in terms of cave management. In natural conditions, Caves are vulnerable with environmental changes especially microclimates condition. The change of microclimate inside the cave can destruct cave ornaments. Therefore, it is necessary to calculate the cave carrying capacity with microclimates as the main parameter. This research aims to (1) explore the daily variation of speleoclimate in Gelatik Cave Tourism and (2) analyze the cave tourism capacity in Gelatik Cave. Microclimate parameter that was measured in this research was temperature, relative humidity, and carbon dioxide inside the cave. Measurement of microlimate parameter was carried out automatically for 24 hours during peak season in December 2017 and low season in May 2018. Cave tourism capacity was measured using Lobo method (Lobo, 2015). The results showed that temperature, relative humidity, and carbon dioxide in the Gelatik Cave varry due to tourism activities. The most sensitive parameter is the carbon dioxide concentration inside the cave. The maximum of tourists allowed to visit Gelatik Cave is 76 visitors/ day during holidays and working days. Meanwhile, the maximum time of stay accepted for a particular area inside Gelatik Cave is 17 minutes 10 seconds during weekdays and 12 minutes 53 seconds during the holiday season.

Abstract

Physical conditions of seawater in coastal area can be studied by sampling at several locations. To perform spatial analysis, the data should be interpolated to get the values between sample points. Several approaches for interpolation may result in different outcomes. The purpose of this research is to compare Inverse Distance Weighted (IDW) and Kriging methods. Their parameters are studied using the total suspended sediments in Maros area, South Sulawesi. The results show that the more accurate interpolation is obtained by using IDW method than using Kriging method.

Abstract

The following issue explains the role of geography study in spatial lay-out and regional development, taking the regional development of Sukoharjo regency as the case study. The role of geography study in spatial lay-out and regional development lies mainly in the effort to achieve geo information system, i.e. information of regional landscape with its all characteristics, regional problem, regional development potential and the definitive factor of regional development. Making use of geography analysis, Sukoharjo as a brief out line has three geomorphology units with its different physic potential and soial economy, and up  to the present it has a tendency of different land  function. The three units of geomorphology mention above are: alluvial plain, fluvio-volcanic foot plain of Lawu, and shouthern hill slope of Baturagung. And then, to  support the area development of JOGLOSEMAR the future development strategies of Sukoharjo regency is distinguished into three zones, i.e.: industry and comercial zone, urban residential and institution zone, open sphere land and recreation zone.
