Abstract

Indonesia as a country with a majority Muslim population has a high potential for zakat. However, this is inversely proportional to the realization of the receipt of zakat funds. In addition, the balance of zakat funds in BAZNAS RI is increasing per year. This indicates that the institution is increasingly inefficient in managing its funds. This study aims to measure the level of efficiency and financial performance of zakat institutions using the SFA method and the ISZM model at BAZNAS RI in 2012-2023. The result of SFA analysis shows that the average efficiency level of zakat revenue is 95.86% and the efficiency of zakat distribution is 91.76%. The efficiency of zakat revenue is higher than that of zakat distribution because it is supported by digitalization optimization, while the efficiency of zakat distribution is constrained by geographical barriers and complex operational costs. ISZM analysis shows that the ratio of operational, program, and collection costs is relatively efficient, but the collection efficiency ratio is still quite efficient. In terms of capacity, the main income growth and program expenses show good performance, but the working capital ratio is not good. The results of this study are expected to be a reference for zakat institutions in improving their efficiency and performance as well as for future researchers who will examine the efficiency of zakat institutions.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the short-term and long-term effects of geopolitical risk and economic policy uncertainty on Sharia stock returns in the Jakarta Islamic Index (JII) during the period from January 2018 to December 2023. This research employs a quantitative approach using the Vector Error Correction Model (VECM) analysis technique. The results indicate that geopolitical risk has a negative and significant impact in both the short and long term. Meanwhile, economic policy uncertainty does not have a significant effect in the short term but has a negative and significant impact in the long term. This study also incorporates control variables, including global oil prices, global gold prices, exchange rates, and inflation. All control variables significantly influence Sharia stock returns in JII in the long term. In the short term, however, only global oil prices and exchange rates have a significant impact on Sharia stock returns in JII.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the impact of work motivation on employee satisfaction and performance at Al-Qur’an Nurul Falah Islamic Boarding School located in East Java. In addition, the study explores the role of employee satisfaction as a mediating variable in the relationship between work motivation and employee performance. The research employs a quantitative approach, utilizing data analysis techniques through Structural Equation Modeling–Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS). Data were collected through a survey using questionnaires distributed to employees within the boarding school environment. To evaluate the research model, tests were conducted to assess validity and reliability using convergent validity, discriminant validity, composite reliability, as well as path coefficient analysis to determine the relationships between variables. The results indicate that work motivation has a significant and positive influence on employee satisfaction, with a T-statistic value of 4.636 (p < 0.05). Furthermore, employee satisfaction significantly and positively affects performance, with a T-statistic value of 3.473 (p < 0.05). However, work motivation does not have a significant direct effect on employee performance, as shown by the significance value of 0.166 (> 0.05). Nonetheless, work motivation has an indirect influence on performance through employee satisfaction as a mediating variable, as evidenced by the path coefficient value, which indicates a full mediation effect. These findings provide recommendations for the management of Al-Qur’an Nurul Falah Islamic Boarding School to formulate policies that enhance work motivation and employee satisfaction in order to improve performance. Moreover, this study contributes theoretically to the development of human resource management studies, particularly within the context of Islamic-based educational institutions.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the effect of ZIS (Zakat, Infaq, Alms), Social Assistance, and Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) per capita on Income Inequality in 34 Provinces in Indonesia for the period of 2019-2023 partially and simultaneously. This research applied quantitative methods with multiple linear regression techniques. The data used in this study were secondary data on ZIS distribution from BAZNAS (National Amil Zakat Agency), realization of Social Assistance from KEMENKEU (Ministry of Finance), and Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) per capita from BPS (Central Bureau of Statistics) in Indonesia for the 2019-2023 period. The results of the study showed that the distribution of ZIS funds (X1) has a negative and insignificant effect on the income inequality level. Social assistance realization has a negative and significant effect on income inequality. Gross Regional Domestic Product has a negative and significant effect on income inequality. ZIS, Social Assistance, and Gross Regional Domestic Product significantly affect income inequality in Indonesia from 2019 to 2023. This study suggested that zakat management institutions or agencies optimize ZIS funds to empower the mustahik economy and the entire community to increase literacy and awareness so that the collection and distribution of ZIS funds becomes optimal as a solution to the level of income inequality.

Abstract

This study analyzes The Effects of Profit Sharing-Based Financing and Trade on the Stability of islamic banks in Indonesia. Bank stability is measured using Return On Aset (ROA) and Capital Adequancy Ratio (CAR) processes. The aim is to analyze the type of financing that contributes the most to the stability of islamic banks. This study uses quantitative methods with Vector Autoregression time series regression analysis on monthly data from January 2016 - June 2023 that obtained from Otoritas Jasa Keuangan (OJK) Islamic Banking Statistics. The results showed that profit sharing financing has a significant positive effect in the short and long term, while trade financing has a significant negative impact in the short term but does not significant effect in the long term on the stability of islamic banks. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the stability of islamic banks is highly vulnerable to changes in profit sharing financing.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of Intellectual Capital and Islamicity Performance Index on Financial Performance proxied by ROA at Islamic Commercial Banks in Indonesia. The research period used is 2016-2022. This research uses a quantitative approach. The population in this study includes Islamic Commercial Banks registered with the Financial Services Authority (OJK) during the 2016-2022 period. The method in this study uses panel data regression analysis techniques with the Random Effect Model (REM) which is chosen as the best model, where the number of observations used is 7 Islamic Commercial Banks selected by purposive sampling method. The results of this study indicate that the variables of Intellectual Capital and Equitable Distribution Ratio partially have a significant effect on Financial Performance. While the variables of Profit Sharing Ratio, Zakat Performing Ratio, and Islamic Income vs Non-Islamic Income have no effect on Financial Performance. All independent variables used in this study simultaneously have a significant effect on Financial Performance.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the role of Islamic banking in supporting Indonesia's economic growth. Islamic banking is represented by Islamic financing variables, while economic growth is represented by gross domestic product. In addition, this study uses three control variables, namely inflation, investment, and trade ratio. The data used in this study are quarterly data from the period 2010Q1 to 2022Q4, and the method used is the Vector Error Correction Model (VECM). The findings of this study are that in the short term and long term, Islamic financing does not significantly affect GDP. This is because the type of financing provided by Islamic banks is more consumptive than productive. Meanwhile, inflation and trade ratio have a negative and significant effect on GDP in the long run.  Meanwhile, investment has a positive and significant effect on GDP in the long run.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of internal bank factors and ESG performance on the problematic financing of Islamic banking in OIC countries. This study uses quantitative methods with panel data regression analysis techniques used to test the hypotheses proposed in the study. This study uses data sources of Islamic banks' financial reports taken from Bloomberg database. The results of this study indicate that partially and simultaneously all variables have a significant effect on non-performing financing (NPF). The variables of profitability (ROA), financing growth, and ESG Score show negative significant results which means these variables can reduce the risk of non-performing financing, while the variables of bank capital (CAR), bank provisions (FLP), and previous year's non-performing financing (NPFt-1) show positive significant results which means these variables can increase the risk of non-performing financing. The limitation in this study is that the sample used only consists of 50 Islamic banks in OIC countries. Despite these limitations, the results imply that bank management needs to pay attention to internal bank factors and ESG policies to minimize the risk of non-performing financing. This study contributes to the scientific literature on the relationship between bank internal policies and ESG policies on non-performing financing in Islamic banking in OIC countries..

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the interdependence relationship between the Islamic cryptocurrency market, sukuk, and Islamic stocks through two different periods, namely bearish and bullish. This study uses daily market return data for December 31, 2019 - December 11, 2023 and the Markov Switching-Vector Autoregression (MSVAR) approach to analyze asymmetric behavior between markets. This study found several inter-market dependence relationships, including a bidirectional relationship with different effects between the Islamic cryptocurrency market and the sukuk market or the Islamic stock market and the sukuk market in bearish periods. There is also a two-way relationship with different effects between the Islamic cryptocurrency market and the sukuk market in bullish periods. Interestingly, there is a bidirectional relationship with the same negative effect between the Islamic cryptocurrency market and the Islamic stock market in bullish periods. Therefore, the combination of Islamic cryptocurrency market and Islamic stock market provides hedging benefits in bullish periods. Meanwhile, the combination of Islamic cryptocurrency market and sukuk market has potential as a diversification asset during bearish and bullish periods.
